These are some things I learn from some painful lessons. Very. Very painful. This is not meant to be a comprehensive guide on everything wargame as such, but more as a simple guide on how to not feed the enemy right at the start, not suddenly get swamped by an enemy, and not to cause a whole battle to be lost simply because you didn't work together with your teammates. 1. How not to feed
For a start, wargame isn't a game where you can buy a couple expensive units and leave them right in the open when preparing to assault a position. That one small, cheap recon unit IS GOING TO FIND IT and their arty IS GOING TO KILL YOUR UNITS. First off, use the terrain. If you didn't realise this earlier, well... Hope you didn't feed. Use forests and swamps to your advantage to hide units. This will save you losing all your expensive T80Us or M1A1 Abrahams. Terrain is also good for an ambush. Hide some infantry in some buildings, and what happens when an unsuspecting enemy transport vehicle drives by? Boom. Points for you.

Don't grab too much of one unit. When I started out, I put all my infantry in one transport, helicopters, and grabbed expensive tanks. The result was that the most minor AA could take down my whole army, and a large group of expensive tanks in the hands of an inexperienced commander like me- not gonna work out. Keep your options open. Grab units with different transports- this I hope you already have down. Keep some inexpensive tanks to 'tank' the damage while your expensive ones go on a rampage. Make sure when you make an assault you grab cheap units and expensive units. Too much of one or another either means you're about to lose a whole lot of units and a chance the assault will fail or your about to take a position but hand over tons of points.

Use your support units. Artillery, aircraft and their nemesis, AA, are some of the most underatted units in the game (In my opinion). Couple the second with some effective infantry, and you can hold off several players at once. AA set up effectively can basically deny the use of aircraft and/or helicopters. So next time, don't watch your AA deprived units get slaughtered slowly by some ground attack helicopters and 1 recon. At the very least, grab a couple AA infantry. Artillery might not be able to get a lot of points (For some artillery), but they can do wonders when you use smoke. You can withdraw troops with relative ease, or relieve some of the pressure on your attacking troops.
2. Use different types of units
In WWII, Italy had something known as an armoured division. The amount of tanks it had just barely made one british brigade. However, contrary to british prejudice, these armoured divisions made a huge, though unacknowledged, impact on the african theatre of WWII. They had a strength known as- mixed arms. The british brigade had one company of infantry to support it's brigades. The Italian armoured division had a whole regiment of infantry, 2 battalions of artillery, a battalion of AA, an engineers unit and a logistics unit. There's a reason why you have a wide selection of units to use. It's to use them.

An assault with 40 tanks is not going to succeed against an entrenched enemy most of the time. On the off chance it does, you'll still come off worse in the trade. A better assault force would be a spearhead of a mixture of weak and strong tanks, followed by infantry, some nearby AA, and some effective vehicle units ready to make life hell for enemy infantry in forests or tanks a fair distance off, all preceded by some recon and an artillery smoke screen, supported by some aircraft.

Yeah, sure, your cheese might make some progress against the enemy, but it won't be long before all of them become charred ruin by a couple ATGMs, artillery, helicopters, and aircraft.



The image above is something I took from one of my first games, unfourtunetely by me. It had an army of tanks and vehicles, but it barely any infantry to follow it, minor smoke screen (at best) given BY MY ALLY, no recon into what it was going to face, and no support at all from helicopters or aircraft. Once I sent an F16 Fighting Falcon in, but it was destroyed barely a second after it dropped it's load. The defence? Infantry in buildings, some cheap T55s on the flank in front of some T72M Jaguars, and some AA. It didn't NEED anything else such as artillery or aircraft- it was already a death trap for my units.
3. Be a team player
Look around the whole map to your allies. Even if you gained a sector, it's not going to help if your ally was pushed back all the way back to your starting sectors, exposing your flank and preventing any reinforcements reaching you. If they need help, either politely ask if they need it, and if they say no but still continue to be pushed back, send some anyway. Remember, where your units are isn't the battle. The whole map is.

If a player is struggling, don't lecture them. This might sound harsh, but deal with it and send some units his/her way. If they made a mistake, they most likely already realised and learnt from it, and don't need someone to remind them about something they just learnt.

Don't be rude. Don't insult someone. And most of all, never, EVER quit a game with multiple players. You're making 3 people do the work of 4 people, 2 doing 3, or 1 doing 2, never a good thing. Once, on a map named Mora, me and this other guy was left to fend for ourselves against 4 other players who were using TS. They worked better than us, and each could concentrate on their own objectives efficiently. We gave as good as we got, but when those two other players quit, the game was already decided.
4. Use your support units
When I say use your support units, it doesn't mean just the AA or artillery in the support tab. In a general sense, your support units will be- Logistics, Recon, Aircraft, Artillery and AA. Just going over them, Logistics are for the resupply of your units and the capture of sectors. These are extremely valuable. Trust me, it's embarrasing if you have all of your AA infantry in an urban centre but they all have run out of ammo. Air units gonna come in, and they are gonig to kill your units- and your many, many, out of ammo AA infantry. Always throw an FOB and a supply unit in, and don't forget to resupply your resupply units so they can resupply your units in need of resupply. I don't think I need to go over recon. Basically, unless it's an SAS unit going behind enemy lines CP hunting, keep these units away from the fighting, but close enough to spot everything he's about to unleash on you. Your tank's aren't gonna be useful if they get knocked out by a single well concealed ATGM unit. Aircraft, Artillery and AA I believe I have already gone over. However, the former is also good for breaking a charge and CP killing when it is effective and your Behind-Enemy-Lines unit can't take it out.

Support units can also mean different unit tabs. For example, in an armoured deck, a support unit might also be some infantry to hold urban centres or to safeguard your flank close to a forest.
5. Tips and Tricks
Getting some infantry in helicopters, for example royal marines, to an urban centre in an important section of the map can delay the enemy for a while until your own forces can capture the sector. However, always make sure you have your own anti-helicopter helicopters ready, as they might be thinking the same thing or trying to stop you from doing so.

I hate rocket artillery, but one thing they are especially effective at is causing units to panick. This can give just the right amount of time for your own forces to attack the stunned enemy troops. I don't like using these troops, as they are unreliable, and in my experience only a fraction of the enemy troops are actually affected, while the timing has to be perfect as their shock quickly wears off. I guess it depends on your play style.

Use infantry. They are some of the most underrated units in the whole game, but some of the most effective in certain conditions.

One of the first lessons I learned from one of my friends- CAMP. This isn't like COD, but it still works just as well. Then, camp and advance. Not a game like starcraft where you can break a whole player simply by destroying his army. You have to destroy but still maintain an effective strength, mainly because of how long it takes for a unit to get to the front. In some games, the problem of resupply is really annoying, but it adds more flavour to the game.

Don't use command choppers for comventional tactics. In fact, they are actually slower than some ground based CPs, and are more exposed as they can't hide in forests and are vulnerable to both air and ground attacks, which, in my experience, is spending 140 points on something uselss. I would link a video which demonstrates the pros and cons of command choppers (By TMC on youtube) but I'm writing this guide right now in a country that doesn''t let me use Youtube. :( Basically, the gist of it is use it for flanking attacks on uncapped sectors.

6. Learn to use infantry

special forces are great an also you should talk about cat b or cat c haah if you are an inf player cat c wil work best for you beacause it give you way more units per cards but the downside no go tanks or helis... but its a good price to play anyways if any of you want t learn how to use inf let me know my name is Angel of death in the game any ways good luck to everyone
