Exodus
Exiled from your homeland and marooned on the shores of a strange island, your fight to survive has begun. You must now explore this unknown place to gather the resources and weapons you will need to fend off the ferocious creatures lurking in the shadows of the forest. On the Sundered Islands lie mysterious Monoliths which are said to be protected by giant walking trees. It is also legend that the angry dragon Kur has intentions to use the Monoliths as gateways allowing unimaginable evil through to destroy the Forest Giants and our world. Rumor has it that a group of Ogres sent here as scouts used the Monolith to enter into our realm.

According to Short Stories written by a wise woodsman, our settler has a military background full of both great as well as horrid untold stories. Perhaps he defected from the army of some great and vast kingdom.
He comes to these lands in exile. Banished by his own, he was escorted far away from his home land to never return again.
Sundered

In a cold land of mystical creatures and tales, silently, armies are forming their ranks in preparation for a legendary epic battle. The evil forces behind Kur's aggressive plan to open the gates of his mysterious homeland, the pure and well-intended good of mankind who oppose this event from taking place and will stop at nothing to prevent it, and, last but not least, the Forest Giants. The guardians of the forest take no sides but their own and will remove any and all trespassers of the Sundered Island. Unless there indeed is a way to make peace with them, these lands will forever be sundered by war over territory and peace.

Magical Essence

The Sundered Isle itself is said to be a magial and mythical place from the soil to the air. Written scrolls containing the history of this mysterious land have always been burned or kept secret from the common of the world's kingdoms. It is unclear what is taking place here, almost as if a fog is over the island. There is no question that the tools crafted in these lands are irrevokably the strongest and most powerful artifacts known to man. The town of Kalsul is known for having blacksmiths that make magical weapons.

Kur

Legends tell that the great elderly beast has been terrorizing the skies of the Sundered Isle for centuries. It is also rumored that he has been in a life-long battle against the Forest Giants over the claim of this land. It is told that there were magical monoliths erected by a long lost civilization who used this as a means of interdimensional travel.

Is that where everyone has gone?

Did Kur find his way through this portal and annihilate their entire race?

Weather Kur intends to open or destroy the monoliths is unclear. If, in fact, he aims to stop them from being used then this would imply that the Forest Giants are the culprits behind the leaks of evil seeping into the forest. Not likely, since their size and numbers could easily overwhelm the area and use the object.

Kur restlessly roams the skies surrounding the monoliths in the forest. He is constantly in a state of rage and clearly grows tired of waiting for his plan to commence. What will come of our planet if he is successful in his efforts to invite his kind though? What other evils await on the other side?
Is there any good where he comes from?

We must unite and stand strong against the winged beast! We must learn the language of the sleeping giants and form an alliance againt Kur's army!

Monoliths

The unknown origins of the mysterious monoliths found on the Sundered Isle have sparked many great debates. Who built them? Who put them here? Who can use them? What are they?

Are these some form of celestial tool used by an extinct civilization? Did they use it to escape the forest? Are they trying to get back? Is Kur in fact trying to use it once again?

Do the lunar alignments have anything to do with them? The great legends of the famous Earth civilizations tell similar stories of men erecting mysterious monolithic tablets and giant astronomical calculators. Even stone-made interdimensional portals activated by wind and designed precisely enough to produce the calculated results. Has our own planet been visited by dwellers of the night skies?

Only time will tell...

The Guardians

"The Sleeping Giants"
Commonly known as Forest Giants, these slothy creatures are literally living trees. They are generally found in slumber, clearly hibernating in the cold, but they are easily started when approached. They are not friendly. No one has returned with a story of a cordial encounter with one of these giants.
Lore has spread through Sundered lands that they are the Guardians of the Forest protecting mysterious monoliths which legends says can be used with magic and interdimensional beings.
In theory, if the Forest Giants see our intent to destroy the evil already slipping through the portal then perhaps they will unite with humans to fight against Kur's army.

Majestic Spirit
Ages before mankind, when the land was ruled by the animal kingdom, all that existed was the trees and animal life, the oceans and rivers, and the wind. The world was a quiet place. Lightning and thunder were the keepers of the skies. Fire was naturally occurring.

Then there was Spirit. An unspoken, universally understood, mutual awareness of eachother's presence and feelings. When family was lost, pain was felt. It is believed that the spirits were born well before the dawn of man. That each and every living being on the planet is connected and fueled by this majestic sense of a Higher awareness of this endless cycle of life and death.

When man was born, and learned to rule the land by waging wars, the cycle of life and death began to take a spirally turn for the worse. Wild animals have been hunted and skinned in numbers that are beyond irrepairable to the ecosystem. Our vast, once abundant oceans have been picked clean of fish. Without the fish absolutely nothing can survive. It is said that some humans in other realms destroy themselves by overconsuming their planet's natural resources. That they've built cities into the sky to avoid spreading across the entire globe, but they've changed the weather patterns by digging massive holes into the terrain and erecting buildings that scrape the sky.

Legend repeats stories of soldiers being given magical weapons by a white figure, or blacksmiths finding glowing orbs of light in their barns that offered an infinite source of power and light. It is not myth or fiction that Ebon Steel is stronger than anything else. Could these tales in fact be true? Is there a spirit of life and death overlooking us and even offering help to prepare for something stronger than us? Why would we need stronger materials?

After all of mankind has fallen and moved on, the Majestic Spirit will still remain here to oversee the order of life and death.

Legends and Lore

"Did ogres come through the Monolith"?
Legend has it that centuries ago Kur once used the Monolith to enter into our world, and has now recently used it to allow a savage group of ogres through as well.

What do they want?

Where did they go?

The real question is, how is it that they are using the Monoliths? This mysterious magika is obviously an ancient language predating us humans and our simple linguistics.

The Great War
Kur has decimated the entire island, leaving ruins and desolate expanses of uninhabited forests. Many great warriors have fallen trying to defend their people against the tyrant of the sky. Wander the Sundered Isle and you will find the remains of a thriving place, and the souls of those great warriors. Among the most prominent of armies defeated by Kur were the Furies of Vek. Lycor and Helion were first and second in command to this great army and both fought valiantly against Kur to no avail. The great leaders and their army of Furies have been cursed to an undead existence in defense of the ruthless beast and the mysterious monolith areas.

Near the ruins of Befallen you will find Draemar. After being slain he was enslaved by Kur and sent on an indefinite quest in search of something unspoken. What does Kur seek?

Well that clears a few things up PapiwA, thx. It would be nice if there were books you could find in the game and read about these things. If you are feeling artistic, you could even carve elements of the history into the cliffs? I have been scurrying about the islands with my archaeologist's eye open trying to puzzle out the lore from the ruins and my journal.

So far, we know that Kur is angry and relentlessly attemting to access the monolith for some unknown reasons. And that the Forest Giants remain on guard to fend off all intruders. Story mode and cutscenes may or may not be introduced before/after end of Early Access builds.
