Gemini II (Mobile Base) (stock, OUTDATED)

Descriere
Gemini II

*This ship is officially outdated. Stay tuned for a new version which is o2 compliant*

*update 1.13.14, major revision. Updated the specs in description. Will add change log.

A base ship that's practical, not ridiculous.

-Basic drone bay
-weld/scrap utility area
-ore drop collectors
-4 refinery
-2 furnace
-2 assembler
-5 large cargo
-14 solar cells w/ some batteries. Batteries can fully maneuver ship in case of no uranium.
-1 gravity shield
~1,500,000kg
-2.5m/s² accel. Reduced thrusters in non-forward directions as base ship does not need particularly high maneuverability and reducing build resources is good.
-~356k triangles. All stock / Vanilla. No moving parts.

That's cool. :)
Must have been a chore, the open interior style was from before the days of o2.
This design is due for an overhaul.. hopefully in the next week or so. The small ships have had my attention lately.

I made a modified version with oxygen generator and vents, airtight doors, and all oxygen leaks plugged (amongst other things).

It looks like keen has given us new armor blocks among various other toys. There will definitely be an update to this ship! I'd love to hear feedback and ideas to further refine it's purpose.

Awesome!

You were right, it needed more turrets. Fixed it for you.

Thank you again for making a ship so incredible I made it my home for so long.

You are right that it's slightly slower than a straight-up grid, but you can cover a larger area with less parts this way. The speed difference might be negligible depending on server weld speed setting.. Personally I don't care because it is convenient to build out of the same inventory which has the refineries and assemblers.
I alternated grinders in there to make it easy to scrap things as well. This grid is large enough for nearly all small ships, I use small projector craft to run up to the welders and slowly back out. For large ships you may need to finish up with welder ship, it's not a shipyard sized welder array. But it works great for the ore probes or laying down the main framework. Welders and grinders have a high triangle count and even what I have is slightly over my goal of 350k. I feel that it's a large enough array to be useful.. and really making another large ship should involve some construction craft anyway. :)

I have been thinking about teh checkerboard pattern of welders/grinders myself. Does it work just as well? It would seem that with area of effect that they have should work fine, just might be slightly slower, which when considering the size, lag, and efficiency implications is well worth it!

How did it work out with testing? I'm going to test a capital ship assembly areay with that pattern today.

GPS system?

Yeah after flying her around for a while, I could do with less batteries, a lot more refineries, furnaces, anda ssemblers instead, and a few less thrusters wouldnt kill me, but I think they look nice now.

I'll have to take mine into the capital yards for a "refit", now to test out the new upgrades. I learned a lot from building this ship by hand, the hard way.

Updated. Still have more script testing and control group setup to do but the build is there. GPS seems to work well.

Nice!! I am about 93% done with the updated version. Sorry to take so long with it! There will be fewer batteries and thrusters, more reactor and refinery, and even snuck in an extra cargo. Plus will have GPS navigation and automatic stone ejection! :D
I'm trying to increase it's capability and reduce the rare material needed for construction, overall size/shape the same.
