We wanted to take this opportunity to dive into some quick tips on the best ways to integrate these new characters into your party!
These are, of course, all suggestions, some of which may require the whims of RNG to help you achieve their full potential, but we fear not, as the forces of The Resistance remain ever-strong and determined!

The Monk comes to For The King II for free, with the Toymaker and Fortune Teller as part of the Tinkerers Of Fate Paid Character Pack which can be found below.

Toymaker

Character Overview
This new addition to For The King II brings our first Summon-focused character. With their primary Ability, Plaything, the Toymaker can trap the souls of their foes to later summon into combat to fight for them and the forces of The Resistance!

Their usefulness doesn’t end there, however. They bring a range of opportunities to the party with high Talent and Awareness, allowing them to easily morph into the party’s Tank or main damage dealer!

Playstyle Tips
  • Getting the killing blow
    • A Toymaker with lower speed will have better opportunities to land the killing blow after all your allies have worn the enemies down. Double down with major damage upgrades to become a real Build-A-Nightmare.
  • Double Tap
    • Increasing the Toymaker’s damage output while holding on to their starting Rapier for the additional Primary Action may be a choice some make to best enable killing blows.
  • Stat Priority
    • Focus on giving the Toymaker items that increase their Luck or Talent to get a higher chance of having Plaything trigger.
Loadout
  • Black Candy
    • Pairs perfectly with the Toymaker’s Double Stitch weapon, which provides an additional primary action. An immediate +1 boost to physical damage allows the Toymaker to get more killing blows and have a higher chance to trigger Plaything
  • Used Queen’s Gloves
    • Used Queen’s Gloves provide an extra point of damage when equipped. You’ll certainly find a replacement for these once you begin to get more powerful, but they provide a great early boost and include some much-needed armour, to boot.
  • Blood Ring
    • An early Trinket that provides +2 to attack, further enabling killing blows for the Toymaker to take advantage of their Plaything ability best.
  • Toy Gun
    • An unlockable weapon made available once you’ve beaten your first campaign with the Toymaker. The Toy Gun provides some new targeting mechanics that allow the player to attack in a checkerboard fashion. This weapon also stats with Luck, allowing the Toymaker to lean into a Luck-focused build.

Traits
  • Lucky
    • The Luck Stat in For The King II boosts the proc chance of most skills, alongside the character’s primary stat. In the Toymaker’s case, that’s Talent, but an extra 25 Luck from the Loadout will surely see Plaything trigger much more often.
  • Nimble
    • Two Secondary Actions in one turn can be a huge boon when you’re equipped with multiple Dolls.
  • Courier
    • One of the new Traits introduced in the Tinkerers Of Fate Character Pack, Courier allows the user to send items across the map to their party members, regardless of distance. This can come in clutch when using the Toymaker to scout out new encounters, quests, and dungeons, allowing them to send not just the Dolls they create along the way to their fellow party members, but the spoils of their adventures too!

Suggestions
  • The Toymaker’s primary stat, Talent, allows this character to take on a role similar to the Busker or Minstrel. Equipped with a Lute, the Toymaker can add a wicked twist to your party while still providing a killer gold multiplier and a more support-focused role.
  • Their starting weapon, Double Stitch, part of a new Rapier weapon family, can enable the Toymaker to become a powerful dodge-focused Tank. Using the Metal Buckler, Wooden Buckler, or Sturdy Buckler can provide the Toymaker with some additional skills, such as Taunt and Evade, to further enable this synergy.
  • With a large enough arsenal of dolls, the Toymaker can become the party’s one-man army, perfect for scouting Quests, Encounters, and Dungeons. Send them off to explore stronger areas with the assurance that their toys can come to the rescue if they get caught out!

    Character Synergies
  • Partner up with a character that offers Focus Restoration. Both new additions to FTK2, the Monk and Fortune Teller, can help keep the Toymaker reined in and ready to strike. Having a healthy build-up of Focus allows the Toymaker to concentrate on ensuring those killing blows land.
  • If you choose to run the Toymaker with high damage output but low damage mitigation, we suggest taking along units that can come to the Toymaker’s aid. Make best use of their summoning skills from the backline, with a Blacksmith, Friar, or Woodcutter to keep you safe behind their Guard.
Fortune Teller

Character Overview
The Fortune Teller is a weaver of Fate, whose mysterious, arcane abilities allow them to tinker with the forces of destiny to tackle combat and encounters with the odds in their favour. Ponder your Orb and bend reality to your will as you aid your allies across the realm of Fahrul.
Their Fortune ability allows them to re-roll some of the less fortunate rolls of their allies, while their Fate ability empowers them with a Tarot Deck, pulling buffs and effects to boost the party and debuff the enemy.

Playstyle Tips
  • This character fits naturally into the support playstyle, coming equipped with Focus Restoration as part of their Orb weapon loadout. This is further enabled by both Fate and Fortune, backing up their fellow Adventurers with better rolls and unique buffs.
  • The Fortune Teller is a fantastic support character, but don’t sleep on the damage their Orb can produce after a round or two of Channelling.
  • Try to stick to the backline during combat. Fortune Tellers can deal major damage with enough time to channel, but becoming Stunned (Or dead!) will put a quick end to that.

Loadout
  • Worn Witch Hat
    • Provides extra Focus to help keep you topped up while you top up your allies.
  • Bag Of Gold
    • An all-round great item to take from the Loadout, but in the Fortune Teller’s case specifically, this can be used to pick up an early Mercenary or Pet to help keep you in the fight if your allies aren’t around to protect you.
  • Guided Fate
    • The Fortune Teller’s unlockable weapon, made available once beating a campaign with the Fortune Teller in your party. This Handbow comes equipped with Channel, similar to the Orb, but boosts higher starting damage and can strike enemies with both column and checkerboard area of effect attacks!

Traits
  • Lucky
    • As a character that focuses on triggering its two primary skills, Lucky adds a flat boost to the trigger rate.
  • Nimble
    • Providing an extra Secondary Action, Nimble allows the Fortune Teller to supply an additional Focus to party members or themself.
  • Field Medic
    • Lean into the support side of the Fortune Teller and become the group’s healer!

Suggestions
  • The whims of Fate
    • Fortune Teller's abilities bring a unique mechanic to FTK, try building with both Fate and Fortune in mind by leaning your stats towards Luck and Awareness
  • Ponder your Orb
    • Your Orb's starting damage may seem low, but with enough Channelling, you'll leave enemies launched into the night sky under the right conditions!

Character Synergies
  • Combine the Fortune Teller with any of the Focus hungry characters in the roster. The Stablehand is an excellent example of this, empowering Hardwork with a constant flow of Focus.
  • Partner the Fortune Teller up with the Blacksmith and the Berserker Trait. This will provide more opportunities to keep breakable weapons intact by re-rolling poor rolls with Fate, with the Blacksmith’s Mend acting as a back-up. This gives the party more chances to keep their powerful, but fragile weapons around longer.
  • A team of four Fortune Tellers creates a loop of refreshed Focus and consistently high odds, turning nearly every roll in your favour. Enemies can’t hurt your squishier characters if they’re defeated before they get the chance!
  • A tankier character is recommended to protect the Fortune Teller while they support and Channel for massive damage, but alternatively, distract enemies with the Farmer’s Scarecrow or even the Shepherd’s Sheep.
Monk

Character Overview
The Monk returns from For The King! Bringing their toolkit from the past entry of the series to The Resistance. Equally able to deal out damage and heal those in need, the Monk is a self-sustaining support member of the group that provides Focus to all members of the party via Discipline, all the while redirecting ranged attacks back at their foes with Deflect.

Playstyle Tips
  • Finish Them!
    • Discipline triggers whenever the Monk lands the final blow on an enemy, while an ally/allies in combat have zero Focus. This helps keep the whole party topped up and ready for further attacks, while cleaning up the Queen’s corrupt forces.
  • Balance the Monk’s supportive abilities with the combative ones to create a hybrid powerhouse on the battlefield!
  • The Ceremonial Staff that the Monk comes equipped with is great for restoring Focus to allies, but, also allows the Monk to reposition enemies to make the most of the combat grid.
  • The Monk joins the roster as the second character in FTK2 to start with the Party Heal ability. Be sure to use this to keep the party alive!

Loadout
  • Godsbeard
    • Party Heal requires Godsbeard, so taking a bunch from Loadout is never a bad idea!
  • Bokken
    • Unlocked once you complete an adventure with the Monk, the Bokken is a great alternative to the Ceremonial Staff, offering
Traits
  • Gifted
    • The Monk excels in support, but, with the right tools, they are poised to fit any role, especially with Deflect offering damage mitigation. Gifted can give you the bump you need to take the role of a frontline tank.
  • Tactician
    • Further support your party, or your own damage. With Tactician, you’ll provide a tile on the battle grid that enables whoever stands in it to do extra damage!

Suggestions
  • Party Healing, Damage Dealing
    • The Monk can lean into many other builds while still retaining their Party Heal as it's a character skill. While they excel in their role as support, you can lean in many different directions while holding onto a little extra support on the side.
  • Focus up, gang!
    • Be sure to tell your fellow party members to burn their Focus reserves. Your Monk only restores Focus with Discipline to characters with Zero Focus remaining!
Character Synergies
  • Similar to the Fortune Teller, the Monk’s powerful Focus Restoration via their Ceremonial Staff and Discipline can empower allies. Stablehand, Woodcutter, and Scholar are just a few that benefit from the additional Focus in combat, the Stablehand in particular, with their skill, Hard Work.
  • Fits naturally alongside Farmer and Friar, providing frontline durability while protecting fragile allies like Pets, Mercs, or ranged party members.

We hope you enjoy exploring Fahrul with these new Characters by your side!
Onward and upward, Intrepid Heroes, many good fortunes for your future adventures~!

I've been finding that Nimble works really well on the monk, so he can move and apply Godsbeard. The Medic one ("First Aid" IIRC?) could also work if you plan to stay together and just stack all the herbs on one dude

Ceremonial Staves have the exact same weapon type icon as regular staves/spears. Is this a bug or can the Monk deflect with just any spear type weapon?
