Introduction

Welcome to the Katanaut Item Database. This guide aims to be a database of player-facing information about the skills, perks, weapons, katanas, and implants (collectively referred to as "items") in Katanaut. It includes the base values of all these items, how they can be obtained, and some tips for using them. This guide won't include datamined information or information that can't be easily confirmed by a player, but I'll try to use the tips section to note interesting behaviors for items that might not be intuitive.

This project is not an official database for Katanaut and may contain some errors. If I've made a mistake or you'd like to contribute, please leave a comment. Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy the guide!

Skills, Part 1
Ground Stab
Powerful downward attack causing shockwaves that disrupt enemies.
  • Damage: 30
  • Skill Cooldown: 5.5 seconds
  • Stamina: 20
  • Type: Combat
  • How to Obtain: Starter skill
  • Tips: Immediately sends Naut to the ground on use if he's in the air. Can also be used while standing on the ground as a very fast attack that hits in front of and behind him.

Delayed Slash
Unleash a series of slashes in a straight line after a brief delay.

  • Tips: Can be aimed in any direction, but won't pass through walls or floors. Enemies can be hit by slashes multiple times. Great when timed with knockback effects.

Kinetic Repulse
Create an explosion that damages and pushes nearby enemies.

  • Tips: Very fast attack, great for animation cancelling.

Siphon Strike
Strike that drains health from an enemy.

  • Tips: Can be aimed in any direction. Restores 1 life if Naut hits at least 1 enemy with it; hitting multiple enemies will not restore more life.

Stealth
Turn invisible briefly; first stealth attack deals heavy damage.

  • Tips: Using any attack will end the invisibility effect, but only a normal katana swing will apply the damage bonus.

Slow Time
Slow time temporarily to gain an edge over enemies and projectiles.
  • Stamina Discount: 4%
  • Speed During Effect: 36%
  • How to Obtain: Starting skill
  • Tips: This is a toggleable skill that drains stamina while active. Although the skill has no listed cooldown, there is a wait period of 1 second between toggling the skill on and toggling it off. The toggle cooldown is affected by the slow time effect itself, so at common rarity, the toggle cooldown is actually 1.36 seconds. If Naut runs out of stamina, the skill will toggle off, even if the toggle cooldown is still active.

Uppercut
Knock enemies into the air with a strong uppercut.

Impulse Wave
Hurl an energy ball that explodes on impact.

  • Tips: Causes a small explosion on impact that can hit multiple enemies.

Cyclone Strike
Perform a spin attack that generates a disengaging whirlwind.

Gravity Slam
Create a gravitational field that pulls in enemies.

Throw a storm of shurikens.

  • Tips: The initial projectile bursts into a much larger explosion on contact with an enemy or surface.

Pulse Barrier
Create a force field that absorbs 1 attack and explodes on destruction.

  • Tips: Attempts to activate automatically when Naut dodges if the skill isn't on cooldown, but Naut only gains the speed and damage boost if he rolls through an enemy. (Rolling through an enemy's model is enough; he doesn't need to actually dodge an attack.)

Reactive Armor
Passively generate a temporary shield that blocks 1 attack after dodging.
  • Skill Duration: 5 seconds

  • Tips: Activates automatically when Naut dodges if the skill isn't on cooldown.

Slinger Vault
Reload gun ammunition instantly.

Blink
Teleport to the nearest visible enemy, dealing area damage on arrival.
  • Damage: 30

  • Tips: Cannot be aimed at specific enemies; Naut will always target the nearest.

Unstable Tether
Mark multiple enemies for a short duration, all taking Aether damage when hit.

  • How to Obtain: Vilepaw
  • Tips: The projectile that applies the tether deals damage on impact, pierces enemies, and ricochets off of walls and floors. Enemies will take the damage from the tether on every instance of damage they receive (even if they're not tethered to any other enemies), making this skill very powerful when paired with items that hit multiple times. The damage dealt by the Unstable Tether debuff is not increased by Aether syringes.

Phantom Blades
Summon spinning spectral blades that surround you and damage nearby foes.
  • Damage: 10
  • Skill Cooldown: 20 seconds
  • Stamina: 40

  • How to Obtain: The Wretched
  • Tips: Creates 4 blades that last for 10 seconds. Enemies can be hit by the same blade multiple times, and the blades do not despawn when they hit an enemy.

Aether Drain
Drain nearby enemy life, recharging your gun ammunition.

  • Tips: The range on this skill is extremely large. Restores 1 ammo for each enemy hit.

Magnetic Collapse
Pull nearby enemies toward you, stunning them briefly.

Emergency Cloak
Passively grants invisibility when hit with less than half health, damaging nearby enemies.

  • Tips: Automatically triggers when Naut receives damage while at 50% or less life, and lasts 5 seconds. The invisibility granted by this skill does not make Naut invincible. Naut will be unable to be detected by enemies but he can still be targeted by the ranged projectile warp modifier if enemies have it.

Inferno Ring
Create an expanding ring of fire around you, applying burn to enemies.

Damages and locks all enemies nearby in a brief time stasis.

Flashbang
Blind and damage enemies in an AoE radius.

Overdrive
Temporarily boost ammo reloading and melee speed dramatically.

  • Tips: During Overdrive, Naut can stun lock enemies by spamming attacks with the Iron Fang as long as he has stamina to keep attacking, due to how easy it is to trigger parries with the increased attack speed.

Kinetic Reflection
Instantly repel all thrown weapons or projectiles back at foes.
  • Damage: 30

Eldritch Storm
Casts a mysterious orb that rapidly chains lightning between enemies.
  • Damage: 14

  • Tips: The projectile will shoot lightning at nearby allies as it passes by them. The best way to aim it is to pass by as many enemies as possible without making contact with them. Damage increases dramatically against enemies that are clumped together. Can apply random debuffs similar to the Cursed Edge perk.

Eldritch Grasp
Summon tentacles to immobilize nearby enemies and deal minor damage.

Quickly slash enemies in front of you, briefly stunning them and inflicting damage.

  • Tips: Applies a short-duration stun on impact, which can be used to stunlock enemies at higher upgrade levels (due to the reduced cooldown) as long as Naut has enough stamina to keep using it.

Shadow Cut
Swiftly move through enemies like a shadow and perform a slash attack.

Blade Cyclone
Leap forward into a spinning blade attack.
  • Damage: 40

  • Tips: Naut is immune to damage during a portion of the attack animation. Can hit an enemy multiple times if Naut performs the skill directly adjacent to one.

Executioner Strike
Deliver a slow but devastating charged melee strike.
  • Damage: 50
  • Skill Cooldown: 20 seconds
  • Stamina: 50
  • Type: Combat, Kinetic
  • How to Obtain: Horizon Keeper, 2nd kill
  • Tips: Holding the skill button down will cause Naut to enter a charging state, increasing the damage dealt when releasing the skill button. The maximum damage that can be achieved through charging is 4x normal damage (200 at common). The skill also hits slightly behind Naut.

Vacuum Slash
Unleash multiple slashes pulling enemies towards you.
  • Damage: 22
  • Skill Cooldown: 20 seconds

  • Tips: Hits multiple times. Naut is immune to damage during the full duration of the skill's animation.

Zeal
Quickly dash forward and perform a deadly slash, then teleport back.

Increase all gun damage.

Void Summoner
Chance to summon void minions when killing with Aether skills.

Astral Echo
Chance for Aether skills to cause an explosion on hit.

Tranquility
Chance to negate all damage when hit.
  • Modifier: 3%

  • Tips: Specifically, this perk grants Naut a chance to ignore damage when he would normally take damage. When the perk triggers, the damage animation does not play and time doesn't slow down; the hit simply doesn't inflict damage.

Slide Cutter
Deal damage while sliding.

Greed is Good
Chance to pick up double the plasma cell currency.
  • Modifier: 20%

A sturdy blade capable of counterattacks. Tap during an enemy's attack to parry. Hold to block one hit and strike back.

  • Tips: To execute a parry, strike an enemy with the Iron Fang while they have a yellow exclamation mark above their head. On a successful parry, non-boss enemies will be stunned briefly and boss enemies will have the hitbox for their corresponding attack removed. It is possible for Naut to be damaged by an attack that he has parried if the attack animation has already began before Naut parries. While in the blocking stance, releasing the input will trigger a counterattack even if Naut has not blocked an attack.

Echo Fang
A blade infused with spectral energy. Normal attacks release slow-moving energy orbs. Hold to charge up and unleash a devastating spectral slash.

I got drop locations for some items that this guide doesn't have the "how to obtain" info on yet:
Warp Thornes - Limbshredder
Gravity Gun - Elite Jumper
Bullet Storm - Plasma Droid
Rolling Thunder, Electrician, and Neural Overclock - Droid enemies on Warp 0 (I wasn't keeping track of which ones specifically, sorry)
Aether Mastery - Lilithex
Eldritch Wildfire, Spectral Dagger, Reaper Blade - Horizon Keeper

Also, Combat syringes do still appear when you have Endvow equipped.

@Julianne: The Labs secret area typically spawns as a narrow shaft that descends from another room. You'll know you've found it when you hear the music fade away.

@WarStrider: The Reactor Core secret area typically spawns as a hallway on the right side of the map. Same as the other secret areas, you'll know you've found the correct place when the music fades out.

Note that a level is not always guaranteed to have the secret area available in it.

@Julianne: I was one of the beta testers so I've unlocked everything as part of testing. I'm going through on a new save file unlocking everything again to try and take note of where they all dropped from.
