Here is the best way to run Dangerous Waters (including RA mod) on Win10/11 without drops, shutdowns and other graphic problems.

After a long study of game's behavior, it became clear that most of it problems on modern PC & OS are in reason of compatibility d3d8.dll library

Here's the best tested method to run DW+any Mods correctly and in windowed mode:

Step 1.
Install Dangerous Waters
Step 2.
Use these options for dangerouswaters.exe launch properties

Step 3.
Download and place d3d8.dll from here (or here (104Kb)

Step 4.
Launch the game through dangerouswater.exe

Step 5.
In main menu click Exit

(Step 4 Step 5 are needed just for first launch of game, during it recognize your system & GPU)

Step 6.
Open dangerouswater.ini and set :
.ModeID 4
This option sets ingame resolution (and, by the way, sizes the game’s window on desktop. Set mode on your own then)
  • .ModeID 0 (640x480)
  • .ModeID 1 (800x600)
  • .ModeID 2 (1024x768)
  • .ModeID 3 (1280x1024)
  • .ModeID 4 (1600x1200)
.RunInWindow Yes



Step 7.
Unpack Wrapper archive (dgVoodooCpl.exe+d3d8.dll) from here[disk.yandex.ru] and place it into dangerouswater.exe directory with replacement of old d3d8.dll


Step 8.
Run dgVoodooCpl.exe and use these options:



Don't forget to press Apply!


Step 9.
Launch the game through dangerouswater.exe & enjoy!

Сказал там, и скажу здесь - спасибо. На данный момент и, скорее всего, в далёком и недалёком будущем - это единственный адекватный фикс для Windows 8 и ОС поновее. Но что стоит иметь ввиду - "Ониксы", выпущенные с "Ясеней" имеют те же приколы, что и раньше. Они могут спокойно выпускать эти ПКРы только с поверхности, запуск из-под воды будет вести к ничему. ДЕМШУ на Kilo Improved CLUB также не работает - до сих пор выдаёт ошибку "Bitmap failed to load", но это скорее уже проблемы компиляции, нежели библиотек D3D.
