Making controller work
A friend was able to figure out a seeming fix for his controller. It goes as follow:

I have a wired DS4 controller that uses standard generic Windows drivers on Windows 10. My fix was pretty simple, but may seem complex in text.

Launch the game
Open steam overlay with Keyboard and click on the controller icon
In the menu that opened up, Click "Disable Steam Input"
Close out of Overlay with your keyboard
Press buttons on your DS4 with the overlay down
Open the overlay back on and hit "Enable Steam Input"
Close the overlay and enjoy your day

Have fun with Cereal & friends

Also if your sound dies:
Go to windows search bar after tabbing out
Type "Settings"
Click on System
Click on Sound
Set your device again, preferrably not on your controller probably.
Enjoy the game

I don't know if this fixes other controllers, so try it I guess.

Another thing you can do without doing ANY of these things, is simply start the game first then plug in the controller. That side steps the whole thing.
