Bypass the funcom launcher
Update July 14 2025: None of the flags are necessary. Previously, this guide recommended adding "-nosplash -BattlEye -continuesession" as well.
  1. Go to the game in Steam, click the gear icon > manage > browse local files.
  2. In this folder in file explorer, go to "DuneSandbox\Binaries\Win64"
  3. Right click "DuneSandbox_BE.exe" and "copy as path"
  4. Back in steam, click the gear icon > properties.
  5. In the "launch options" field, paste the path in, and add " %command%". Ultimately, this will look like the following. (Note the quotes around the path to the exe are only necessary if there are spaces in the path to the exe.)
  6. Profit!
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DuneAwakening\DuneSandbox\Binaries\Win64\DuneSandbox_BE.exe" %command%
Bypass the logos and opening cutscreen movie
To bypass all the random stuff that shows up at the beginning (except the shader check), you just need to rename this folder:
  1. Go to the game in Steam, click the gear icon > manage > browse local files.
  2. In this folder, go to "DuneSandbox\Content" -- this should contain a "Movies" folder
  3. Rename "Movies" to "Movies.bk"
  4. The game will no longer show logos, warning screens, or the cutscreen when launching.
I've looked through this directory, and it only contains content related to launch, not the actual game. Also note that while you could just delete the Movies folder, it's better to rename it so you can restore.

Important: this may break if future game updates modify the content in this folder, or if Steam scans the game files and finds something missing, at which point the folder will probably be re-created. However, the game itself works fine without the "DuneSandbox\Content\Movies" directory being present.

shout out to Cosmic (and others online) who have mentioned similar fixes.
More info
I tested the launch options with these flags, and found
  • -nosplash DOES do something: it disables the little graphic with the logo/picture that shows up right before the game launches.
  • -BattlEye doesn't have an effect. The "BattlEye Launcher" and "BattleEye Service" processes still appear in task manager without the flag.
  • -continuesession does not seem to have an impact, may be left over from conan days. (The "continue" button still works just fine without it.)
  • The launcher will show up if you remove "%command%" from the launch options.

Use "DuneSandbox-Win64-Shipping.exe" only way to skip launcher

Also, in my testing, BattleEye is still loaded -- you can search Task Manager for "BE" or "BattleEye" after launching the game to verify.

Hi everyone, I did more testing, and found that most of the flags don't do anything. Simply using '...DuneSandbox_BE.exe" %command%' works fine. (Though you can also keep -nosplash to skip the tiny little logo/screenshot that shows up before the game actually opens.)

Additionally, I tested Cosmic's solution for skipping the logos & cutscreen, and expanded it to simply rename the Movies folder, which (currently) has no game-related content. With this approach, though, Steam will probably re-populate that folder at some point, in which case you'd need to follow this step again.
