Solving the pipes and valves during engine overclocking

This will be the first actually useful albeit rudimentary guide to be published, and I will show you how to deal with the pipes and valves and not blow up your engine in the process of overclocking it (or at least have it happen less frequently).

What does overclocking my engine do?
An overclocked engine grants a bonus to your submarine's evasion, allowing you a higher chance to dodge incoming projectiles from enemy submarines. Upon turning the red valve, pressure will begin building up in the pipes. The pressure gauge shows you how much pressure has built up.



The evasion bonus granted will increase as more pressure builds up, but letting the pressure build up too long will cause the engine to fail, as well as spring a few leaks.
So which valves should I turn?
Steam flows from the red valve, and it must be directed to the pipe inducated by a lit lamp. Valves act as direction controls, and dictate which way steam will flow. Yellow valves can be turned, but white ones are locked. Your goal is to turn the yellow valves in such a way that steam is directed from the red valve to the correct pipe, before too much pressure builds up and causes engine damage.

In the below examples, the steam flow is highlighted in white, and the valves that must be rotated are highlighted in yellow. Note the lit lamps that indicate which pipe the steam should flow to.




If you want to get the most out of your engine overclocking, you may choose to leave one valve unturned until the last moment and turn it just as pressure is building to dangerous levels, such that you gain the maximum possible evasion bonus, but without causing damage to your engine and hulls.
Conclusion section
With this guide you will hopefully blow up your engine a bit less frequently when attempting to overclock it. It can be difficult to track the pipes and see where steam might flow (especially when your hull is getting hammered by enemy torpedoes), and at times it might seem like no matter how you turn the valves, the steam just keeps flowing in an endless cycle. It does unfortunately come down to a bit of luck with the white valve rotations, but practising does help.
