  • Poker Night at the Inventory is a poker game... I know, it's shocking information. In order to get all achievements you only need to know the basics of Texas Hold'em variant of poker, which is not too difficult to get into and I will make a budget guide about it in the next section to explain it a little better, which if you know already you can skip it.

  • Most achievements can be obtained fairly easily, but there are a few which makes this game a grinding nightmare to get everything unlocked as they are luck depended. You could get everything done in 10 hours, but could take hundreds of hours even. Bear this in mind!
(Budget) Texas Hold'em explaination
Poker Night at the Inventory plays Texas Hold'em poker.

About the deck and the cards
  • The deck contains 13 different powers of cards in 4 different suits / colors, so a deck is made from 52 cards.

  • The 4 suits called heart (♡), diamond (♢), spade (♤) and club (♧).

  • The weakest card in the deck is the 2, and there are other numbered cards which go until 10. After the 10 the next weakest card is called Jack (J), then Queen (Q), King (K) and the Ace (A), which is the strongest in the deck.

You can read about the gameplay of Texas Hold'em in the game when you get your hand. There is a question mark button in the bottom left corner and there is a Poker Tutorial button in the middle, however I will explain it as well.

About the gameplay of Poker Night
  • In Poker Night you play a tournament where you play against 4 opponents. In the game everyone starts with 10.000$, and to win the tournament you have to take all of the money, eliminating all of the players in the process. You get eliminated if you lose all of your money.

  • A tournament has a series of hands (deals). At the start of the hand, each player gets 2 cards and these cards are unknown for the other players.

  • After the cards are dealt with the player has to decide to Call the big blind bet (or any bet), Raise the bet by any amount or Fold the cards, depending what cards they hold and/or what the others might have. Calling or Raising adds money to the hand's pot. If the player is the big blind and the bet did not changed, or no one bet, the player can Check to not bet anything to the pot. If a player doesn't want to call the highest bet, it has to fold its cards for that hand. Once every player has put the same amount of money into the pot, the game can proceed to the next stage, which is seeing the first 3 community cards.

  • The first 3 community cards are called flop. In order to beat the other hands, you have to get the best possible hand with 2 cards you are holding as a player, combining with the 5 community cards which will show up on the table to get a 5 card hand. After the flop is revealed, another round of betting occurs.

  • Once the bets are settled, the game goes to the next stage called Turn. Turn reveals the 4th community card, and after that another round of betting occurs.

  • After the bets are set the fifth and final card gets added to the community cards, called river. After this, the final bets are played and once this is settled, the remaining players show their cards in the showdown, which determines who wins the pot. The strongest hand wins the whole pot, however in case of a tie, in Poker Night the tied players get their money back, everyone else loses it.

Additional gameplay rules to remember
  • A player can also win the pot if it's the only one who has not folded their cards.

  • Players can bet all of their money at any given point, which is called All In.

  • Showdown can occur, when all players are All In who still have their card or if only one of the players still has money but can't bet with anyone.

  • In case of an All In between two players, if one player has more money than the other and decides to go all in, it still only bets the amount needed to match the other player's bet, meaning the player with more money does not actually go all in.

  • In each deal there is a dealer, small blind and big blind player. These roles rotate around the table clockwise.

  • Big blind player has to bet the minimum bet amount of the table at the start of the hand. The small blind player has to bet half of the big blind bet at the start of the hand, which sets the pot at the beginning of the hand, which will get increased in the course of the hand with additional bets and calls.

List of hands and their values (from weakest to strongest)
  • High Card: Represented by the highest power of card you have in your hand and in the community cards, when you have no other value.

  • Pair: Two cards with the same value.

  • Two Pairs

  • Three of a kind: Three cards with the same value.

  • Straight: Five cards in an incremental power of sequence, in any suit. Also, the Ace in a straight can take a low position (before the 2) or a high position (after the King), which also makes a straight.

  • Flush: Any five cards with the same suit.

  • Full House: Three of a kind and a pair.

  • Four of a kind: Four cards with the same value.

  • Straight Flush: Straight with all cards in the same suit.

  • Royal Flush: Straight flush from 10 to Ace.
Gameplay tips and character summaries
  • For getting most of the achievements, I highly recommend playing on Normal difficulty, it will make the games easier and the opponents often make mistakes as well and give more tells about themselves.

  • It's sounds like a generic tip, but you need to learn when to bet, call/check or fold. A big portion of Poker is to learn how to read the table, figure out what type of hands can beat you in certain cases, do you even have a chance to get anything good from the cards, and learn when to leave a hand. You can also bluff sometimes and bet when you have nothing, just to scare the opponents and take some easy pots.

  • After flops, turns and rivers the characters can do certain actions, which gives some information about their hands. Sometimes their voice lines and gestures can give information so it's worth paying attention to these.

  • I would recommend playing tactical poker, occasionally bluffing and doing high bets after 4 or 5 hands, rather then going all in and hoping for the best.

Each of the four characters have their own set of playstyle, knowing these can help you throughout the game.
  • Heavy usually plays safely and folds not ideal hands, but plays with decent ones. Occasionally makes high bets when he has a lot of money to play with. If Heavy bets and stays in a hand for too long, it's safe to assume he has something, he bluffs rarely. Even though this behaviour is hard to play against, he is not a difficult opponent in the early or late game.

  • Strong Bad tends to play reckless with weak hands and bets a lot, and because of this makes him hard to read. He keeps this behaviour even though he has a lot of money. He can be trapped easily or play against him with decent hands to eliminate him. Usually he gets eliminated quickly, but there are a few times he can be problematic, but still a manageable opponent.

  • Max has a completely random behavior pattern on EACH hand, meaning he is impossible to figure it out. Sometimes he likes to get high with nothing in hand or slow play with strong cards or anything between. Max does know how to play poker and he is on par with Tycho, but luckily his changing behavior makes him not as dangerous as him. Depending what he does in pre-flop and flop, try to figure out how he plays in that hand and adjust your play by that.

  • Tycho has a similar safe playstyle as Heavy in the beginning, and he only plays really good hands. However, once people get eliminated and/or he gets a lot of money he starts to become more aggressive, starts trapping and bluffing the player which makes him a dangerous opponent. He is one of the most difficult opponents to play against 1v1. The best strategy is to get rid of him as soon as possible, in the early game you can bluff him but in the late game you should only play decent hands against Tycho, not advisable to bluff him too many times.
Progressional achievements
Down to the Green
Start going all in at pre-flop at least two times each other and win those to get this achievement.

The 12 Days of Christmas
Just win 12 hands / pots in total of your playtime.

Win A Game
You just have to win a tournament by getting all of the money from the table. With some practice this should come naturally.

Rushing
Win three pots in a row, which if you are lucky you can get it if you fall in every single time in the pre-flop and make everyone fold their cards, or if you play the game and get it normally.

Triple Through
You have to win a pot, where two or more opponents are all in with you. It could be difficult to get, but on Normal difficulty the opponents tend to join up for All-ins and when you see that happening and you see some kind of chance for winning, go for it and hope for the best.

Special Item: Max / The Heavy / Strong Bad / Tycho
There is a chance that one of the characters at the start of the tournament doesn't have the necessary buy-in, so they bet their special item, which you can win if you are the person eliminating that opponent, which will give you the item and one of the achievements, depending on the opponent.

Take action when the opponent is near losing all of their money or start trapping them, make high bets against them which would help you eliminate them. This needs some time to get, and when someone else eliminates that opponent, you need to get another game to have your chance again.

There is one trick you can do: if you lose a hand in the game, you can exit from the game before the game deals the next hand, and you can replay the previous round but with different cards. Also, allegedly you can keep restarting tournaments until you get someone betting their special item in the beginning.

You should get these items in TF2, however I never got them personally, save to assume that they are discontinued (based on my experience).

Win A Game, Hard
Win a tournament on a hard difficulty level, which needs some practice and some luck but it is manageable.
Miscellaneous achievements
Slow Play
After the flop, if you got a pair or anything better and no one raised the table, just do a check to get this achievement.

Straight
Win with a Straight, which is regular to happen. You can get this easier if your hand has cards which have close to the same value as them.

Kicker trouble
You need to win a pot with a pair or better, meanwhile the opponent has the same type of card value as you, but you have the better kicker (2nd card in hand). This is mainly luck to actually get it, but usually this happens a decent amount of time.

Flush
Win with a Flush. Usually if you have 2 cards from the same suit, that gives the best chance to achieve this, should come naturally.

Summer of '69
When you have a 6 and 9 in hand, try to play and win the pot with it.

Full House
Win with a full house, which needs some luck but happens a few times.

Three Wise Men
Win with Kings of three of a kind, and this needs some time to get, mainly to have a one or two king in hand and have decent community cards to perform this, but this is still manageable.

Rags to Riches
You should do this on Normal difficulty only, as that gives you the most chance to beat anyone with just a high card. Getting only a high card is not that easy, but beating someone is also takes some time, but not impossible.

Four of a kind
Win with a four of a kind.

This is one of the annoying achievements to get, as you need to get very lucky to have a chance at this and actually get it. There is only 0.168%, or 1:594 chance to get a four of a kind and this can take some time to get.

Personally, I got this around my 1100th hand.

Straight Flush
Win with a straight flush.

This is the other annoying achievement to get, but this one takes more time and luck to get it, then the four of kind one. There is only 0.0279%, or 1:3589 chance to get a straight flush.

While writing this guide, I have played more than 4200 hands, and I still have yet to unlock this achievement.

EDIT: After 80 hours and 4904 hands later I finally got this achievement!
Optional: Best way to grind SOME of the achievements
I learned about a software in pokerdan99's guide called AutoHotkey. With the program you can make scripts which can perform button presses and mouse clicks by starting a script file, and with that hands can be automated to be played. It’s up to you to decide if this is cheating or not, or if you want to use this software at all, but in my opinion this is solely to get through hands as fast as possible without altering the game, and get achievements which are not even skill based, but luck based.

First, you need to download AutoHotkey[www.autohotkey.com] and set it up on your computer.
After that, you need to make the game in windowed mode in a lower resolution than your native resolution and choose Mum's the Word as the table conversation, which will result in less chat between the characters, which cuts down the time more.
Then you need to make the script file, which can have whatever name you want, but it needs to be a .ahk file on your Desktop. Edit the script file and save the following code:

; This script will keep playing Poker Night at the Inventory SetDefaultMouseSpeed,0 WinWaitActive Poker Night at the Inventory Run() ; To stop the application at any time, simply press the Escape button Escape::ExitApp ;Run the whole application indefinitely Run() { while true { ClickCall() SkipDialogue() NextTime() DealNewGame() Sleep,500 } } ClickCall() { Click,384,915 } SkipDialogue() { Click, right, 182, 451 } NextTime() { Click,1310,870 } DealNewGame() { Click,828,916 }

It’s recommended to get all of the special items before using this script, as the code can't deal with those.

The code basically goes in a loop, clicking on certain coordinates on the screen with the left and right mouse buttons with 500 millisecond delay between each loop. The script works on 1440x1080 windowed resolution, where the window is on the left side of the screen.
You can stop this loop by pressing the ESCAPE button.

Once you are in a tournament, start the AutoHotkey program and double click the script file. Once you click back to the game's window, the script is going to start.

There is a possibility that the script does not click on the correct spots, so you might need to edit my script code's coordinates, but I can explain how to do that.

You will need AutoHotkey's Window Spy to find the correct coordinates for each button. The first number in the coordinate represents the horizontal position, the second number is the vertical position.
Have this window up on your screen and check for the position for each of the buttons in the following ways:

  • ClickCall: This is a function for clicking the call button. Find the very top pixel of the button which still lets you to do a call/check command and copy those coordinates in the code.

  • SkipDialouge: This is for skipping the dialogues by the opponents, which can be done anywhere on the screen except the part where you can check the money of each player and at the bottom. So just choose a spot anywhere else.

  • NextTime: This is for proceeding to the next hand after the previous one. Similarly to SkipDialouge, this can be done anywhere in the game window, except the top and bottom of the screen.

  • DealNewGame: This is to play a new tournament after losing or winning the previous one. You can try to check the button's position, or just find the horizontal coordinate for the middle of the screen and use the vertical coordinate from the ClickCall function, which should roughly work just fine.
