What is XP and what is it for?

(XP) is a key resource in Red Dead Online that determines your level. The higher your level, the more items available, including clothing (hats, shirts, glasses and etc.), weapons, and recipes to craft.

In addition, XP is required to obtain some achievements, which requires level 50 and higher.
Rookie mistakes


One of the most common mistakes is choosing the wrong **role**. There are 5 main classes in the game:

1. **Naturalist** - studies animals.
2. **Moonshiner** - makes alcohol illegally.
3. **Bounty Hunter** - catches criminals.
4. **Trader** - sourcing materials to produce into sellable goods.
5. **Collector** - collects and sells rare items.

Each role costs **15 gold bars**, except for the naturalist and moonshiner (they are more expensive - 25 gold). Gold is earned in-game through daily quests and stranger missions, but it's not easy to accumulate.
Farming XP

The optimal role for gaining XP quickly is **Collector**.

Why? The Collector searches for valuable items scattered around the map. They are divided into three types:
1. **Common** - just lying around in locations.
2. **Digging** - requires a shovel ($350).
3. **Hidden** - found only with a metal detector (requires level 5 role + 700$).

XP is accumulated quickly, and with it - money. Collections can be sold as a whole or piece by piece.
