Daydrought - Lore, Story, and Wolves
By SootSketch
! Heavy Work in Progress at the moment !
I figured I would publish this to keep track of different wolves in Cloudburst's playthough, as well as letting other people see the different wolves in his world if they want! This has a general description of some wolves' personalities and stories, and I'm planning to add more! (...eventually!)
(I will likely work on this on and off as I play through the rest of Cloudburst's Pack. Keep in mind there may be large pauses!)
This is a guide for Daydrought! (Both the pack and the story xd)
Daydrought is a story I'm working on that includes a few wolves, including my current playthrough with Cloudburst, and at some point I hope to include Boreas, his brother, as well!
I'll include events of each year with each wolf, wolves in each pack and their status (I will only be including more important wolves in rival packs/dispersals, so not every wolf outside of Cloudburst's pack/ any other Daydrought wolf's pack will be drawn.)
Most of the story will be taking place in Hellroaring Mountain, though there is the potential for other maps to be included with certain wolves :)
I'm planning on having 5 main wolves for Daydrought's story, with Cloudburst and Boreas being definite parts, and possibly one of Brook's daughters, Leaflet, being one as well. The other two shall be chosen later :D

Packs of Hellroaring
This section will include packs (both disbanded and current) of Hellroaring Mountain during Cloudburst's time.
Pups of the year of each pack are named on theme with their parents, mixing things they're named after, or different naming conventions based on the parents' names. (Ex: Yellow Night and Evergreen may have pups named with two-part or one-part names, and will either be named after times of day and trees, with additional colors as a possibility.)

Daydrought - [ALIVE]
14 wolves in total, 9 adults and 5 pups, Cloudburst and Larch as leaders. Few wolves have been lost, and some have dispersed.

Cloudburst's Pack - Daydrought Wolves
Starting off with the wolves of Cloudburst's Pack! I'll be including the pups from each year, as well as how they died, if they did.

Cloudburst - Lead Male [Alive]
Cloudburst, cast out into this new land after the loss of power from his mother's pack and a battle in which he was separated from his brother, Boreas, is the leader of his new pack. He has climbed tooth and claw to achieve the reputation he has now in Hellroaring Mountain, and he will stop at nothing to keep his pack safe. There's more than spilled blood on the line.
He's quite playful when with his pups, and enjoys sitting with them in quieter moments.

Larch - Lead Female [Alive]
Larch was a former Geode Pack wolf, uncertain to leave her pack at the start, but following the newcomer, Cloudburst, into new horizons. She's generally quite fierce, and likes to be among her packmates, treating them as equal to herself.

Year 1 Pups

Evergreen - Dispersed [Alive]
Evergreen became somewhat of a loner as the pack grew, but in his earlier years he loved and looked up to his dad greatly. He's strong-headed, but quieter than some of his siblings, and more thoughtful than his parents. After leaving, he wandered around Bull Mountain, seeing his brother, Gale, briefly before they went their separate ways. He was greatly devoted to his mate, Yellow Night, before she was killed.

Subalpine - Subordinate [Alive]
Subalpine is the fiestier, quick-footed first daughter of Cloudburst and Larch, with a sharp bite and a bark to match. She prefers staying at the den most days, looking after the pups and searching for any potential dangers around. She sees herself as a mentor to some of the young pups as well.

Gale - Dispersed [Alive]
Gale, the runt of the first litter, holds the same ambition as his father. He respected his pack well, before dispersing first from his pack, finding Evergreen later, then taking over the vacant position of the Lupine Ridge pack, kicking out their previous leader, Weathered Peak, with the help of Bitter Wind. He holds a strong loyalty to his new pack, and doesn't seem opposed at all in helping them fight his former family.

Overcast - Subordinate [Alive]
The quietest pup of Cloudburst's first litter, Overcast looks strikingly similar to her uncle, Boreas. She's somewhat more nervous, though she does enjoy going on patrols with her father from time to time. Overcast quite frequently stays at the den and teaches the pups. The scars and permanent slight limp on her front left leg were the result from a devastating battle with the Geode Pack when she was two. She tries to rest, but is quite wary.

Year 2 Pups

Leyland - Subordiate[Alive]
Leyland is a kind, more upbeat pup from Cloudburst's second litter. She is slightly less adept at fighting than her siblings, having received a number of battle scars from numerous packs when she was learning how to hunt. She was quite close to her sister, Hazel, and the two would playfight together. She started staying closer to the den after Hazel's death, and currently, with all of her littermates having dispersed or died, she feels lonelier than normal.

Hazel - Former Subordinate [Died at 1 year from a hex raid with the Geode Pack, killed by Wreath]
Hazel was quick on her feet and a fierce fighter and hunter, occasionally darting out of the way to attack random bears or taunt bison the pack ran by. She loved her pack, sticking close to Leyland and playing with the pups of the year in the springtime. When the Geode Pack began to raid the pack's territory, she was quick to volunteer and launch into battle as they arrived to Hellroaring Creek. However, with her packmates trapped on the rocks above, Hazel was quickly overpowered and ultimately killed by Wreath.

Cirrus - Dispersed [Alive]
Cirrus is an easygoing wolf, enjoying spending time with his father on little excursions. He began to seem more uncertain once Cloudburst took a more aggressive approach, however, and growled in concern at his father. He dispersed from the pack only a little while after his littermate, Sundog, did, and is currently wandering through Hellroaring Mountain, searching for him.

Sundog - Dispersed [Alive]
Sundog is the bravest of his litter, and quickly dispersed once fall arrived on his second year. He enjoyed spending time with Moondog when he was in the pack, and more often participated in hunts than fights.

Concolor - Former Pup [Died in Loaf at Rendezvous from illness]
[no image yet]
Concolor was a loud and outspoken young pup, trying to play with his littermates even when he fell ill. He'd wanted to fight the other packs from a young age after seeing them during a den raid.

Year 3 Pups

Alba - Former Pup [Died in Raising Pups from illness]
[no image yet]
Alba was a weaker pup from the start, though she was joyous and loved to play and run around the densite with her two bigger brothers. After the struggle of moving dens as sickness set in, she quickly lost strength and died of her illness.

Sitka - Subordinate [Alive]
Sitka is generally a quieter wolf, carrying out smaller tasks within the pack and participating in hunts often. He usually stays closer to Chinook, talking to him more than most other wolves in the pack.

Chinook - Subordinate [Alive]
Chinook is a very lighthearted and cheerful wolf, staying by his mother and father's side quite often and taking thrill in hunts, especially with faster prey such as mule deer or pronghorn. He's very encouraging to his younger siblings, and tries to teach him everything he's learned.

Year 4 Pups

Lacebark - Yearling [Alive]
Lacebark is a talkative and quick-thinking young wolf, though this also comes with recklessness at times. She's quite defensive over her pack, especially over Moondog, and will bare her teeth at any wolf who dares look her way. She likes to joke and try and cheer the pack up.

Moondog - Yearling [Alive]
Moondog is the quietest member of the pack, staying close to any of her siblings' sides at all times. She likes hanging out with Leyland the most, and finds her littermate, Lacebark, a little too noisy at times. After failing to save her sister, Ponderosa from the wrath of Lupine Ridge's wolves, she has nightmares of it. She seems to be doing better now, enjoying the company of her pack more.

Deluge - Former Pup [Died in Raising Pups due to an attack from Lupine Ridge]
[no image yet]
Deluge was a spitting image of his father, and tried to run with Lacebark through the fighting wolves in battle, though he was spotted first and was killed.

Ponderosa - Former Pup [Died in Raising Pups due to an attack from Lupine Ridge]

Bitter Wind
[no image yet]
Bitter Wind is the cunning and merciless leader of the Lupine Ridge Pack. As Weathered Peak's younger sister, Bitter Wind watched as she became the leader of her pack. She quickly grew to like Gale as he took her side and helped her fight her older sister, taking the lead while he marked the path straight to the heart of Daydrought's territory. It seems she will stop at nothing to give her pack more power for future generations.

Arctic and Marten
Arctic and Marten are the current leaders of the Geode Pack, slowly rebuilding after the battles that Wreath and Score put them through. As they grow in numbers, they're becoming quite wary of the larger packs at their borders, and suspect Cloudburst of Weathered Peak's death after finding her at their border. They're quite welcoming to dispersals, and allow the southern end of their large territory as a sort of refuge from the other, more hostile packs.

Dead

Wreath
A dark coated, thick-furred wolf with numerous scars across her legs. Originally from the Prospect Peak Pack during the time of Siskin and Minnows' leadership, Wreath adopted that deep-rooted hatred for the Daychasers. Hearing that one of Brook's sons had been seen in Hellroaring Mountain, Wreath traveled there, taking the "vacant" place of the Geode Pack's lead female, and ruling alongside Needle, turning the path into a much more ruthless and cunning force. She led numerous battles against the Daydrought Pack, and when Needle mysteriously died, Score, another wolf with an immovable hatred for Cloudburst, took his place. She did eventually end up killing one of the Daydrought leader's pups, but ultimately died later on, possibly from battle wounds or something else... her death is as good as any guess.

Score
Score traveled with his brother, Ebony, through Hellroaring Mountain before Cloudburst arrived. He was seen as a strong wolf with his brother by his side, and when Cloudburst defeated him in a fight the same season he arrived, Score was hurt and swore to defeat him in battle. After Ebony died in a hunt, Score joined Wreath, who shared similar goals to himself, and lead her pack alongside her, before being killed in a battle against none other than his rival.

Weathered Peak
Weathered Peak used to be the well-respected leader of the Lupine Ridge pack, leading strongly alongside her mate. When he died, she expanded her pack's territory down toward Hellroaring Mountain, though refused to take any other mate. Bitter Wind, her sister younger by a year, took her down with the help of Weathered Peak's own pups, and exiled her. She traveled down to the Geode Pack, taking refuge there for a while, helping other young dispersals that found her, before being found dead close to Lupine Ridge and Daydrought's border.

Needle and Laurel
Needle and Laurel were the benevolent leaders of the Geode Pack, the largest pack in Hellroaring Mountain before Cloudburst arrived. They loved each other greatly, and cared for their pups enough to try to avoid conflict with them as much as possible, wishing their daughter, Larch, well when she left. When Laurel died, Needle reluctantly took the help of Wreath, regretting it in the end before he died and his pack was changed forever.

Yellow Night
Yellow Night was a young wolf, originally from the Garnet Hill Pack, before it disbanded. She lead her own path as a dispersal, somewhat enjoying the freedom, before meeting Evergreen, drawn close to the similar wolf. She defended her territory as Lupine Ridge and Gardner fought to take her and her mate's territory, but was later killed by human hunters when Gale drew their attention to her, marking his true reckless ambition that could very well destroy Hellroaring Mountain.
To-Do
  • Add small summaries of each year for Cloudburst.

  • Perhaps add small bits of story for important events (attacks where pack members died or something interesting happens, and a bit of a longer part for Cloudburst and Boreas traveling at first)

  • Add Boreas's story once it's being worked on.

  • Extra art for each pack member.

  • Lore of some other packs and descriptions for important wolves.

  • Add Leaflet's story (May be added much later, if at all.)

  • Add images for pups that died before reaching one year of age.

  • Add art for rest of important wolves.
Additional Art!

STORY - Two Brothers
Chapter One

Cloudburst and Boreas, two of the last pups of Twig's and dispersed from their pack after their mother, Brook, died of old age, begin to travel away from the hostile lands of Slough Creek they once called home, away from the memories of puphood, their siblings sheltering in the upper regions of the territory, and everything else they had once known.

Cloudburst crested the rise of land that sloped upwards at the edge of the meadow he and his brother, Boreas, had spent the majority of the day crossing. The air was still sweet with summer flowers and the buzz and hum of the insects of Yellowstone all coalescing among tall, vibrant grasses and shrubs. The patches of meadow, similar to the one Cloudburst and Boreas had crossed, where alight with flares of color; yellow, star-like flowers sprung from branching stems and covered vast swathes of green, red blooms sprung up like flames among the verdant undergrowth, and even the air seemed to be alive, things flickering among blades of grass, moving so quickly not even the most observant wolf would be able to tell what they were.
To the two young wolves, however lively and warm this time may be, a pressing worry hung in the air above their heads. Here they stood, now at the edge of the territory of the Prospect Peak Pack. These wolves had been known to be hostile, especially to Cloudburst and Boreas's pack. These wolves, their leader, had been the ones who had taken down their father in a border skirmish, leaving Brook to raise him and his brothers alone for a time. His mother hadn't ever seemed to fully recover from the loss of her life-long mate.
Now, even after Brook's death, Prospect Peak showed blatant hostility. Cloudburst had watched from the distance as small, intentionally inconspicuous patrols of Prospect Peak wolves had covered land across the Sandy Slopes, knowing that the leader of the Daychasers was dead, leaving only Cloudburst's stepfather, Snail, Cloudburst's littermates, and his yearling and pup half-siblings to defend what was left of the great Daychasers. He wouldn't be surprised if any wolf who so much as caught a whiff of his scent near the border decided to chase him down and attack him. It seemed as though they were out for his family's blood.

Cloudburst turned his head to Boreas, his brother, the one who, although somewhat more quiet and apprehensive than the other pups and was anxious about nearly everything since Brook's death, stayed with him and had the courage to face what unknown venture lied ahead of them past the meadows of Slough Creek. His family. He would do anything to protect Boreas now, he knew. For his brother's bravery in traveling with him, for the unspoken thought that they were the ones to keep their mother's legacy alive, for the memories they shared now and the moments when Boreas had lifted Cloudburst up from times of anger and restless pacing and sleepless nights. This was his family, his brother, and no wolf would ever harm him. He would make sure of that.
Cloudburst blinked and averted his gaze as Boreas turned to meet his eyes, realizing he'd been looking at him. Boreas, seeing that familiar intensity in Cloudburst's eyes, looked up to the edge of the trees, the scent of Prospect Peak's borders strong and powerful, snarling "stay away" to any trespassing wolves.
"So... You're sure about this?" Boreas shifted his paws anxiously, peering into the trees while Cloudburst brushed away those strong thoughts, watching for the signs of rustling shrubs, or the flash of eyes between the cool shadows of the evergreen trees. Cloudburst was quiet for a moment, glancing back at the mountains that stretched on as far as the eye could see beyond the meadows.
"Don't you trust me? We don't have anywhere else to go. We'd be dead before long if we stayed in Slough Creek, I just know it." He answered, turning his pale yellow gaze back to the cool shadows of the forest and the dangerous territory ahead. He was right, wasn't he? Prospect Peak's territory would only expand. He just hoped that Snail, his adoptive father, and Bough and Sundial and the rest of his younger half-siblings would have the sense to find clearer land away from the rigid hostility of Slough Creek's packs. That place was no place for wolves like them, however peaceful the grassy meadows or gentle slopes plentiful with the elk and mule deer and pronghorn of the land may seem.
The new land he and Boreas would arrive in would be theirs. No packs to harshly look upon their bloodline, no wolves to take their kills simply for who their mother was. He would make a pack of his own with his brother, and they would have the respect of the dispersals and neighboring packs, and they would eat all the elk and deer and maybe even moose, Boreas's favorite, they could ever want.
"But through their territory? You are sure, right?" Boreas's near-quivering voice interrupted his train of thought, and he lifted his head to meet his littermate's eyes.
"This is the only way. If we can make it through, we'll find territory where no one wolf will ever harm us. Don't you trust me, your brother?" Cloudburst repeated, taking a step toward the forest. Boreas stayed where he was.
Cloudburst knew why he was so hesitant; of course this was dangerous. No normal wolf would ever think of crossing through a large territory like this, let alone a Daychaser.
"I do trust you. I'm just trying to be the voice of reason here." Boreas sighed that familiar, heavy sigh that Cloudburst felt he'd been hearing a lot more recently these days. "Okay, Cloud." Nodding, the gray-coated brothers stepped forward, leaving behind the sunny, lively meadow and pushing their way through the snowberry bushes into the shadows of Prospect Peak's territory.

Good luck whenever you do make something like this!!

@Molten Scale Oh hi! Recognized your name, I made a MAP part for you a little while back! xd
Thank you so much!! I had an old guide of a different pack but figured I could redo it and make it a bit better with the new pack I've been playing as!
This in particular is kind of half a fresh wolf, half a current pack (ish?) Cloudburst (the wolf I'm playing as) is the pup of my previous wolf Brook (the leader of the first guide/pack I made xd)
Some of the lore is continued from her and her playthrough (Especially with the rivalry with Prospect Peak), but otherwise Cloudburst is a fresh wolf!
For me I found it really easy to have a well-built in story with the pups from a previous playthrough and to fit in pieces of lore and personality with the things I'd already developed, but starting a fresh wolf would be great as well! With a fresh wolf you'd probably be able to add bits of backstory or lore that wouldn't fit in as well if you had been starting with a pup xd +

Dude this is so awesome!! I've been wanting to do this forever, maybe on toyhouse? Question though, would you recomend starting a new bloodline with a fresh wolf, or did you do this with a current, running pack?
