Basic Controls
Peripeteia, like most games, utilizes fairly basic controls found in most other games.
WASD Keys are your movement keys! This lets you move Marie around the gameworld.

The Control Key is your crouch key! Crouching is vital to stealth, as it dampens the sounds you make.

Spacebar is your jump key! You're gonna have to get used to jumping in this game!

The F Key is your interaction key! This lets you pick up, talk to, and interact with objects. If you hold down the F key on an interactable item for example, it will let you carry the item!

Q and E Keys are your quick-lean keys! These allow you to peek beyond a wall, useful for if you're ambushing or holding a corridor!

Advanced Controls
Peripeteia also utilizes some more advanced controls, such as the ability to use augments, change the fire-mode of your rifle, and even move items within your inventory!

The C Key is your augments button, pressing this button turns on one of your augments! if you hold this button down a menu will pop up allowing you to move your mouse to select which augment you'd like to use for quick selection.

The Z Key is your fire selector button, pressing Z on select firearms lets you change the fire mode to a few different options, semi, burst, and full auto are your normal fire modes, with the fourth being putting the weapon on safe. If you hold the Z key and move your mouse up or down you can easily select which mode you want without having to keep pressing the Z key.

The Left Alt Key is your fluid lean key! This neat key lets you lean at a more refined angle, it lets you peek above boxes or below desks really easily!

The Tab Key Tab opens your inventory! Get used to this button because you'll be opening your inventory a lot!

Q, E, and F Keys Upon clicking an item in your inventory with the left mouse button, you will pick up that item within the inventory grid system. Pressing Q, E, and F allows you to move whatever object you want within that grid section, this is useful for the kleptomaniacs in all of us who want to store as much items within our inventory as possible!

Left Mouse Button, and Right Mouse Button. You should be aware of what these buttons on your mouse do, but as a refresher the left mouse button within the context of your inventory allows you to grab an item, when holding a firearm, it allows you to shoot! The right mouse button within the context of your inventory allows you to do a plethora of different things, such as consuming food, removing magazines, inspecting items, and more. And, when holding a gun, allows you to aim down sights!

Function Keys The function keys at the top of your keyboard allow you to use various augments without having to use the C menu, F1, F2, F3, F4, F5, F6, and F7 are your quick slots for augments, remember that!

F10 and F11 These keys allow you to quick save, and quick load. Be careful about which key you press! If you're not careful you may end up loading a long.. long time ago..
Enhanced Mobility
Peripeteia has a very unique climbing system that I don't think I've seen anywhere else, Pretty much every surface can be climbed on, provided there's a ledge for Marie to hold onto, There are so many possible ways to scale tall structures in this game, I recommend you try things out! Marie even has an augment that allows her to run faster, and jump higher! Use this!

One of the most important things to remember in this game is that when in doubt, quicksave! You can easily find out that way which ways you can and cannot go.

Some examples of objects you can climb or hold onto are:

And More!

You can shimmy along using your directional keys, you can climb up higher by using space, which if there is a ledge for Marie to grasp onto, she will automatically grab it! You can let go by pressing control.
Use Your HUD
The HUD in Peripeteia is something you're going to get used to seeing, let's familiarize ourselves with what each part of the HUD means!

This is the part of the HUD you're going to probably spend the most time looking at. Let me show you what each part means.

These two bars are your Health and Energy bars. While Peripeteia has a more advanced wounded system that shows a picture of Marie and where she is damaged, it's not a bad idea to refer to the green bar at a quick glance to tell you if you need to bug out. Augments use up energy, in the Marie tab or by looking at an augment in the inventory you can see how much energy you can expect to lose by having an augment activated. Once you run out of energy you'll need to restore it using items.

These are your stealth bars! The light bulbs, and how visible Marie are, dictate how visible you are to enemies, and the bars on the left and right are ambient noise, if you can make less noise than that, you're safe.

This part of the HUD is your toolbar! Using your inventory tab and hovering your mouse over an item, you can press the number keys to quickly assign any item of your inventory to your toolbar. you can also manually drag an item onto any of the slots if you like that more.

This part of the HUD is your weapon information display, it shows the name of your weapon, how many mags and ammo you have in your current mag, and your fire mode!
Hacking 101
Peripeteia features the ability to hack various terminals you might find throughout the world, hacking these terminals might lead you to your objective, weapons and items, and even new areas to explore! Let's get hacking!

First things first, let's dissect the hacking HUD!

This is the amount of time you have left to hack, be careful! You might have to hack quickly!

This is what you have already typed, sometimes you can get an idea as to what a password might be just based off what you have already typed!

This is the amount of tries you have left, be careful because if you fail to hack the terminal it may remove a try, once all tries are gone you will be locked out of the terminal!

Finally, this is your keyboard, it's important to keep your eyes on the keyboard! I'll explain why in a moment.

Now that we know the hacking HUD, I can explain to you how to hack!

The first part of the hacking mini-game is guess work, you'll need to be able to guess what you're looking for by just.. pressing a couple of random keys! If you see the keys on the HUD keyboard light up as red, that means you're too far away! If it lights up yellow, you're close! And, if it lights up green that's a bingo!

Menu Functions
We touched upon it briefly in previous chapters, but it's about time we talk about the various different tabs in the menu that you should get familiar with!

The Inspect Tab
The Inspect tab is a very useful tool, it can give you backstory on certain items, it can tell you information from PDA's, it can even tell you more information about the item and what it does! It's a very important tab, I suggest you use the inspect tool frequently!

The Marie Tab
The Marie tab is very important, this is where you will be able to drag and drop augments, as well as get an idea on where Marie has been hurt! Peripeteia is interesting because you can for example, injure your legs to a critical red condition but still stay alive! So make sure Marie is healthy!

The Journal Tab
The Journal tab is a very important tool as well, this is where Marie will record what she has to do, or what's going on! Keep an eye on this tab, you will often get notified if something has been added to your journal..

The Notes Tab
The Notes tab is great for if you need to remember conversations you had, or documents that you've read. It's awesome.
How Do Weapons Work?
To understand how to use weapons in Peripeteia, you need to understand a few things about the systems in place within this game, unlike a traditional shooter, Peripeteia takes a more grounded and realistic approach on how to operate firearms.

Lets start off with a basic scenario, I just picked up a weapon that has a full magazine!

This is the best condition your firearm can be, a full magazine and spare magazines are available to you! We all know how to reload, pressing the R key allows you to change your magazine to the next highest round count magazine.

Peripeteia, unlike other games, lets you retain the magazine upon reloading, unless you hit the R key multiple times in which you do a tactical reload, dropping your magazine. Retaining magazines is vital in this game! More often than not, you'll need spares unless you want the daunting task of manually loading in the middle of a firefight. Speaking of manually loading..

Oh no! I ran out of ammo for my secondary magazine! But luckily I picked up a box of rounds earlier! Utilizing the left mouse button I can pick up the ammo and drop it on to the empty magazine, filling it up!

Now that I've got a full magazine I can reload when my primary runs dry! But, let's imagine I've just picked up a magazine that has ammo that I want, but the magazine is incompatible with my firearm? Or, maybe I just want the ammo for it!

Nice! I just found a mag! Although, the VZ58 magazines are proprietary.. and won't work in my AKM pattern rifle.. Also, who just leaves a magazine on a bench at night? This city.. Oh well, I'll take the magazine! It looks to be full of ammo, maybe I can take the 7.62x39 from it and save it for later?

Just what I thought, a full magazine! Maybe some drunk lost it, too worried about their piwo.. Well, let's go ahead and extract the ammo from the magazine, for use in my AKM pattern magazines!

By clicking unload, I can take out the 7.62x39 from the magazine, who cares about the spring tension..

Now I've gotten the ammo! I know how to load, I know how to unload, but how do I get rid of this mag? Sure, I could click "Drop" but that's boring, so, why don't I just pick up the mag and drag it to the outer rim of the inventory, and just.. throw it!

Bye bye magazine!

Say, after having thrown that magazine I found some attachments for my AK! I don't know why people are throwing perfectly good stuff out, but, I'm thrifty, I don't mind dumpster diving for neat stuff..

Sweet! A supressor and optic for my AK! I can't wait to attach these to my rifle! But how do I do that? Ah, I know! By opening my inventory, and right clicking on my AK I can get a full view of what my gun looks like in the inspect screen, it's got some cool info about my gun too! Well.. kind of demeaning info about my AK, she shoots just fine!

By dragging the scope onto the AK in the inspect tab, I can easily drop the scope onto the dovetail mount! I can do this with my bayonet or suppressor too! I can also mount attachments to the AK in the inventory screen, but the inspect tab simply looks cooler, it's all about the cool factor..

And to remove the attachments is doing that in reverse! I can take off the suppressor, or put it back on, it's really that simple! Now, let me get out of here, it's kind of weird walking around with my AK this late at night..

Now, what's a faster way to get a magazine from the world? What if I don't have enough room in my inventory for a firearm, but I still want the magazine?

In the world, if I find a firearm I can simply open my inventory via the tab key and simply pick it up using left click, when it hovers all I have to do is right click to strip the magazine from the gun!

And I can go even further, if I just wanted the ammo I can right click once more!
Tips for Beginners
Here are some tips that may enhance your experience while playing Peripeteia!

  • Exploration is vital! Be sure to explore as often as you can, who knows who or what you may find!
  • It's okay to make a mistake, this game is an immersive sim, none of us are perfect!
  • You can find food in this game, be on the lookout for chips, piwo, vodka, and more!
  • Złoty is hard to come by, if you find a vendor you can sell all of your unneeded gear to them for some money!
  • If you right click you can zoom in even without a weapon! This is also useful if you want to learn about who you're looking at, or what you're looking at. You can zoom in on characters to read a bit about them, look at posters to learn interesting stuff.
  • Peripeteia is a game that is meant to be enjoyed at your own pace, while you can rush through the levels if you want to, I highly encourage the approach of exploring as much as you can before completing your objectives. This is a very immersive game.
  • On the note of how immersive the game is, this game is screenshot eye candy central! Take as many screenshots as you can, and please share them! The community would love to see your beautiful shots!
  • If you're confused about your objective, or have no idea what to do. Talk to people! Some NPC's can carry interesting information that relates to your objective, and they may even give you side objectives!

@billyjojobaba In the description for items such as small and large batteries it states that it only temporarily restores her energy, which drains over time. Item such as energy fuses provide a more permanent solution to energy loss.

I used a battery but my energy just drains all the way while I am not using any augmentations, what am I missing?

Also, I'd recommend talking to the subculturalists that you meet, they have very interesting dialogue.

Once you get the bombs from Sivulla you'll have to go back to the PSR office, you can jump through the window that the attendant is at, and go to the door at the back left, you can plant it there and run back to Sivulla where he will let you through, blowing up the PSR office.

@weed wizard, if you're talking about the fan hack in Tutorial/Arcology, it turns off the massive fan in the joycultist hideout. When it comes to storage and inventory upgrading, there is no system for that. There is talk about making a stash system in the future but as of right now, every item you bring with you to the end of the level gets sold so you can have more Złoty. I recommend going to the mall location and selling it to him.

Brought an answer, but i need one myself
I did the fan hack but dunno what it's supposed to do, like, r there some doors somewhere that ive unlocked by doing the hack or..?
Also, is there any kind of storage? way to upgrade inventory, or anything that could help a horder that got their hands on yugoslav m53 etc before going to planetarium?
and if there's no such thing, where could i find the earliest vendor to sell the goods to?
thx

@Florus you're supposed to hold F on it to carry it with you, you're supposed to hold the key the entire time, try doing so and move your camera/yourself around
it can be tricky to carry it back all the way, just managed to do it myself and damn the ladders were annoying
