👋Introduction
In Legion TD 2, selecting a strong roll is crucial to success. A well picked roll balances early-game stability, mid-game scaling, and late-game carry potential.

This guide walks you through the principles of roll selection, offering practical tips and highlighting common mistakes to avoid.

There can be some difference depending on the mastermind you choose, for example the extra starting gold from Cash Out, or looking for ways to pro-leak with Fiesta. This is more of your standard-andy kinda guide.
🌟Keeping It Simple
Toikan has mentioned this a lot throughout the Legion TD 2 discord and it's often how he picks his roll.

It's a simple step-by-step way in doing so:
  • Choose Your Carry
For me, it will often be Nightmare, this is a personal preference, but it can also work well depending on the spells you use. Other carries can include Priestess of the Abyess, Berserker, Pyro. Essentially units that can safely enable you to 5 workers on wave 2, and often 6 workers on wave 3.

  • Select Your Tanks
Pick tanks that can support your carry. Mudman, Peewee, Warg, Oathbreaker, Yozora, you know units with higher health.

  • Choose Your Start
This is a personal choice, often this will be your carry, so Nightmare in this case.

  • Pick Your Support
Depending on your carry, the support can be anything, Butcher supports Nightmare perfectly as does APS. Tempest for Elite Archer and Radiant Halo, or Steed for King Claw and Sovereign.

  • Fill the Gaps Based on Weak Waves
As you progress, select units that will help strengthen your defence against weaker waves. Adjust your lineup to cover any vulnerabilities. Masked Spirit is a great example if you start with Priestess of the Abyss, due to their typing differences: Masked Spirit covers the Priestess's lack of damage for wave 7, and can be a pivotal tank on wave 6.

  • Keep the price of units diverse
No point in having 3 tier 6s that may not even see the light of day unless you have a Grarl for shannigans.
🎯 Building Around a Carry
For this guide, let's pick Greed. A beginner friendly choice that boosts your economy. Looking at the roll options we’ve been offered:

In this particular roll offer there are actually multiple carries that you could start with: Sakura, Nightmare, Berserker and if you were Cash Out - Holy Avenger.

Quick note - even with Cash Out, it's still much more effective to Grarl into a T6 on wave 3, then to start a T6 unit as you will be on low workers for the first few waves which will step you back. Even worse so if a Fiesta player is in the lobby!

Moving on, for simplicity and personal preference, let's go with Nightmare as our carry and build our roll around supporting it.

After choosing Nightmare, the next step is selecting units that complement it. A strong roll might look like this:

Why these picks work together:
  • Seedling: Enables Nightmare to two-shot wave 3, making early clears more efficient and allowing you to push to 6 workers on wave 3.
  • Steed: Provides an Arcane tank and synergises with Holy Avenger/Sovereign.
  • Infiltrator: Adds Magic damage and can tank for Nightmare on Wave 6. Alternatives include Ranger or Doomsday Machine but I wanted something at a cheap price point early game.
  • Mudman: With so much Swift defence, a Fortified tank like Mudman balances the roll.
  • Sovereign: Our late-game carry, powerful and reliable.
It also has a very healthy balance of damage and tanks to keep them alive.
📜Additional Considerations
When picking your opener and finalizing your roll, keep these factors in mind:

Legion Spells
The available spells can heavily influence your roll and can give you a heads up on what to expect:
  • Defensive Spells - That increase the value of your board (Allowance, Vampire, Hero): Usually means safer Waves 11-12.
  • Aggressive Spells - That increases the mythium in the current game (Robo Army, Overwork, Press the Attack): Expect heavy pressure on Waves 11-12-13.
  • Economic Spells - Offers more gold to the player for being greedy (Creditor, Venture): Often means players skip sending on Wave 10 to apply pressure or catch their opponents being greedy.

Team Coordination
Consider your teammate's roll and opener to avoid overlapping weaknesses. Ideally you never really want to be starting with the same unit as your ally.

If you can you want to cover each other's weaknesses. A classic example is from a past tournament where Widderson and Kingdanzz locked in Angler and Priestess of the Abyss separately to cover each other's weak waves. This strategy worked wonders and secured another trophy for their cabinet.

Common Mistakes
  • Picking too many damage units without enough tanks or vice versa.
Side note: I often ask Seto Kaiba where his damage is...
  • Not respecting certain waves like the Scorpion King on wave 5, or the Rockos of wave 6.
  • Over-complicating early-game builds. If the game gives you Bazooka and Great Boar, or Nightmare and Butcher, that be what the game wants you to play!
🎲When to Reroll?
Ever unsure on what you should be re-rolling? Well here's some advice when you should be rolling that die to see what new units away you:
  • If your roll lacks early-game tanks.
  • If you don’t see a viable plan for late-game waves like 13, 15, or 18 and expecting sends there.
  • When your units lack synergy or coverage for critical waves.

Reroll Priorities:
Look for units that fill gaps in tanking, damage, or specific wave counters. Perfect example would be getting a Fenix for 13, or a Doomsday Machine for 14.
✅ Final Thoughts
Building a roll around a carry is indeed simple strategy. Focus on these core steps:
  • Pick a carry (like Nightmare, Berserker, Priestess of the Abyss, Elite Archer).
  • Add tanks and support units.
  • Adapt based on Legion Spells and your teammate's roll.
  • Just win the video game.

With practice you'll improve your rollpicking skills and will do it without thinking over it too much.
Good luck, and may your carry(ies) lead you to victory! 🏆
