Game Folder Patched
I've noticed that many people have been experiencing issues with this port (I was one of them). To help, I took the 'ESSENTIAL FIXES' from this Steam Community guide:

https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=594875543

Thanks to " 3xA'Lu©κy the disappearing act " by the way, you’re a lifesaver

A big thanks to " Dreambox " who made de 2022 collection of fixes.

And as said on "3xA'Lu©κy the disappearing act" 's guide a huge thanks to:

- PCGamingWiki for most of the information in our community guides
- Daniel Pistelli for their 4GB Patch
- Durante for their DPfix
- CeeJay.dk for their SweetFX
- SlowpokeVG for their custom SweetFX preset
- InfiniteNine for their HD hud and icon pack
-Zhnigo for making an Launcher who let's you skip intro logos (helped me a lot to test the game)
- Shlomo for their unused pause screen textures
- Parsnip for their Playstation buttons
- dengarde for the 6 Emily outfits pack
- Cipher for the Raincoat Killer Emily outfit
-Akemy_Sama my friend and streamer who spread my project to all of her wonderfull community and gave me the majority feedbeck for her experience on her twitch channel, thank you all for being part of such a personal and important project!
- And of course, to you, all user of Steam Guide, who comes with usefull information/backup to help people who's eager to play and enjoy as experience as much as we love.

It's a big effort to make this game enjoayble to everyone who bought this port, these both guides were my motivation to "update" it as well Akemy's will to bring her experience to an entire community of players who didn't knew this masterpiece yet.

I've applied them successfully to my game folder, and now everything is running perfectly. I haven’t experienced any major problem aside a few crashes here and there so far (only in fullscreen mode for some reason, windowed the game NEVER crashes), and everything seems to be working just fine. I'll finish the game and i'll be updating this guide with everything i may notice.

Here’s a link to access the game folder already patched. Simply overwrite the game's original folder.

I'll also provide the download link for the Zhnigo custom launcher, which skips the intro sequence. Note: This is not recommended for players who are not yet familiar with the story. Before substituting it, don't forget to back up the default DP Launcher to avoid any issues.

Controller Fix Tutorial
Now, regarding the controller issue where the character would get stuck on the ground, I managed to fix it using some tips I found in forums. Here's a small tutorial that worked for me:

1.Enter Steam's Big Picture mode.

2.Navigate to your game (Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut) and click on the controller icon.

3.Enable 'Steam Controller Support' by clicking the first big gray button in the top-right corner of the screen.

4.Find a controller profile that works for you. Under the controller icon, click the largest gray button and look for a configuration already mapped by someone else. Select 'Community Configurations' (it should have the Steam icon). I personally recommend the profile created by 'theraineydaze' called Deadly Premonition Controller+.

5.Set the game to use a controller in your launch settings, and you're ready to solve this case!

I hope this works for everyone in the community so more people can access this fantastic game. I sure hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
Aim Fix
Oh yeah, the major problem in this version is that you can't aim upward or downward. Avoiding spoilers, you'll need that ability to beat the game. Fortunately, I found this video by 'Simon Hartman':

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z14ruJ6DIZI

Although his method works, I did something slightly different to fix the issue. Here's my solution:

While running the game, pause it and press ALT + TAB to navigate to the game's folder.

Rename the file d3d9.dll (or dpfix.dll if you're using it) to something else.

Example: I renamed it to d3d9test.dll (or dpfixtest.dll).

Press ALT + TAB to return to the game, and it should work just fine!

Recently a friend of mine was playing on Win 11 and had the problem with the aim as well, wanna guess what fixed it? Running in Fullscreen and doing my method...ah...this port...

Car Looping Sound Fix
I found a sound issue where the car braking sound would loop nonstop in a crazy and annoying way. This video helped me figure out how to fix it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KDO-YOeCyY&t=11s

To resolve it, simply turn off any Realtek Audio program that might be running while the game is active. I don't know why, but it works! Normally, I use a program called 'Sonar' to separate audio for my live streams, but for this game, the sound couldn't pass through the program without causing the looping issue. Once I turned it off, the problem was gone. Amazing, just... wow.
Game Black Screen Freezing on Hospital
Another issue I encountered was after defeating the third Shotgun Shadow in the hospital. The game would freeze on a black screen right after the cutscene. I found this guide, which solved my problem:

https://steamproxy.net/app/247660/discussions/0/1730963192551245343/

To fix this, you’ll need to run the game in compatibility mode for 'Windows XP Service Pack 2.'

Thank you for sharing these fixes.

@Nintendon't
In my case, I had to delete the sweetfx's d3d9.dll and rename dpfix.dll back to d3d9.dll. Only them, together with setting the windowed mode in the launcher, was dpfix recognized.

I'd rather you didn't try to force sweetfx and dpfix together, for the result seems to be that neither works for me and the game runs at default resolution with none of sweetfx effects either. I know this happened to me already years ago when I tried to follow instructions for getting them to work together.

I ended up figuring out the resolution thing, if you set the game to windowed into the launcher, the dpfix ini works

Thank you, this is gold!! I wanted to do the same thing years ago, but i needed to do a complete, crash-free playthrough to test it, and then my save file got corrupted, so I gave it up.
