I can't give solid feedback without knowing your build (skill, weapon class, playing style etc), but I would say this guide are still relevant, most of the problem (low sprint speed/duration, low damage/ammo cap, die too easily) can be fixed by money, all you need to know is how to farm, and buy better equipment, same as most other RPG game.
P.s. For now, new event weapon is no longer trade-able (by loot or craft), so it is pointless list them in the recommend list, 'cause new player who missed the event can't obtain them unless opening unique chest. On the other hand, event upgrade becoming the best upgrade for weapon, and normal upgrade becoming BP weapon's crafting material.
