Use Switch HORI Drum on Steam

This guide will show you how to get the Switch version of the HORI Drum Controller working with the Steam version of Rhythm Festival.

This is a one-time setup, so after you follow these steps once, your drum will automatically work in future sessions!

You can also follow this guide for other controllers or drums that aren't automatically recognized by the game
(As long as your PC recognizes them as controllers. This guide will not work for peripherals that are recognized as keyboards.)

Steam Settings
Plug the drum into a USB port on your PC.
In Steam, go to Settings > Controller and click Begin Setup next to Taiko Controller.
Button Setup
Press each corresponding button as instructed in the setup. For thumbstick directions, simply press A to skip them.
IMPORTANT! Check the drum diagram below for where to map L3, R3, L2 and R2. These specific buttons are crucial for the drum to work.
Confirm Steam Input
Confirm that Steam Input is enabled by clicking the controller button in the game's library page and checking that it says Using Steam Input Translation.
If there is an Enable Steam Input button, click it.
Play!
Launch the game, select Play with the Drum Controller and have fun!
Dons Not Working? Try This!
There seems to be an issue with the current version of Steam where skipping the left stick and right stick directions during the setup causes Steam to believe L3 and R3 do not exist on the controller.
To work around this, we will have to manually add the stick axes ourselves in a Steam config text file.

- Exit Steam.

- Open Steam\config\config.vdp in a text editor of your choice.

- Search "Taiko" and it should bring you to a section that looks like this:

- Replace that section with either one of these two, depending on your ABXY layout preference:

- Save, open Steam, launch the game and test.

hijacking this for if anyone is using a wii tatacon with a raphnet adapter, use this in steam config since steam input won't let you not bind A button

Same... Looks like the L3/R3 issue was coming from steam's end.

I deleted my settings and the set the controller up from vanilla, looks like the L3/R3 issue is resolved now after the latest steam update

I think the config may "stick" depending on if you swap to either the Xbox/Nintendo layout in the config. I dont know if it was coincidence but mine also overwrote itself until I swapped to the other option

The drum it self is in there but, everytime when i restart the steam client it automatically reverts itself like the drum was never there... Maybe the config file is tied somehow to our steam cloud??

Oh and another thing that i noticed: the drum it self now appears as "HORI. Taiko Controller" instead of "Taiko Controller" (In steam settings that is. Windows still recognizes as Taiko controller).

Windows also recognizes the dons in the debugger (so as steam) so it is my belief that the game needs some sort of a patch for it to work.

Sorry, I don't know of any other workarounds at the moment.
The drum should be in config.vdp assuming you went through the controller setup steps.

i can't seem to find my controller in the config,vdp file, everytime i search for either taiko or controller it doesn't find anything. any other way to fix the issue?

Cannot save the vdf file.. it overwrites it self every time when im about to start steam..
Might as well contact volvo about it?
