Overview
A complete and total guide to Life is Strange: Double Exposure's achievements.
Important Notes:
  • While Frame Fatale used to only be able to be completed via playing a complete save from beginning to end and taking every photo within that save, there might be a chance that you can now go into Explore Mode and take the photos you missed in order to get the achievement. I cannot confirm or deny this, but you might want to try that before committing to a new save.
  • On that note, non-Ultimate Edition owners can achieve Frame Fatale, as the cat photos aren't possible for them to take. However, if you have Ultimate Edition, you should take the cat photos.
  • Clue Me in and Clutterbug keep track of what items you've gotten in previous saves, as long as they weren't deleted before the full game release date, so you might earn them early if you missed one of the earlier items.
  • You will need to play through the game entirely at least two times to get 100% achievement completion. So, if you want to play once without getting spoiled or having to follow a guide, feel free. Your second play-through can be for achievement hunting.

Bay or Bae
This achievement is mostly self-explanatory. You must play through the game from beginning to end (at least) two times, due to this achievement. When Safi pushes you for information about Chloe in the Snapping Turtle in chapter 1, you must answer the major choice prompt differently from the other save.

Romance Achievements
These achievements can be done without playing 4 separate saves. Once you complete chapter 3, go back to main menu and go into Nobody Wants to Drink Alone via Explore Mode.

Depending on what choice(& subsequent achievement unlocked) you made when playing this scene, you'll need to replay this scene three more times for the others.

Important: you must finish the scene in Explore Mode for the achievement to pop. What this means is you must exit the Snapping Turtle in Living World.

Good news is, when you're playing via Explore Mode, you can press Space to skip ahead in a lot of the cutscenes. Makes this much easier.

A Nice Girl Who Runs a Bar
Romanced only Amanda.
When Amanda asks you to kiss her, choose Kiss Amanda.

You can either choose to leave the Snapping Turtle after your date with Amanda, or you can choose to still talk to Vinh, and choose Pass when prompted.

Only Eyes for the Bad Boy
Romanced only Vinh.
When Vinh asks you to Smash or Pass him, choose Kiss Vinh.

After that, you can either choose to leave the Snapping Turtle then and there, or you can still talk to Amanda and choose Pull Away when prompted.

Romantically Disentangled
Romanced neither Amanda nor Vinh.
You do have to talk to at least one of them to be allowed to leave the Snapping Turtle, so depending on who you speak to, either choose Pull Away with Amanda, or Pass with Vinh, then leave. (You can also choose to talk to them both and reject them both, if you want.)

It's Complicated
Romanced both Amanda and Vinh.
When Amanda asks you to kiss her, choose Kiss Amanda.

When Vinh asks you to Smash or Pass him, choose Kiss Vinh.
Archival Footage & Commencement (w/ related achievements)
To achieve Commencement, you must finish every chapter, which means you'll get Split Decision, Bullet, Proof, Face to Facade, Fade to White, and Tempest Fugit in the process of getting Commencement. These are self-explanatory and easy enough to achieve.

To achieve Archival Footage, you must find every polaroid in the game, which means you'll get A Trick of the Light, Further Developments, Selfie Care, Picture Taking, and Viewfinding in the process of getting Archival Footage. Below is a guide of how to get these achievements.

A Trick of the Light #1 & Archival Footage #1
After getting up from the table, go over toward the fireplace. The polaroid is by the door nearby.
A Trick of the Light #2 & Archival Footage #2
On the ground right before the owl. (Approaching the owl first will block you from grabbing this polaroid without explore mode or a new save.)
A Trick of the Light #3 & Archival Footage #3
Downstairs in Hellerton House (Max's place). Grab it while you're cleaning up.
Picking up this polaroid should grant you A Trick of the Light, as it is the last polaroid of chapter 1.

Further Developments #1 & Archival Footage #4
On the table that Reggie and Diamond sat at in chapter 1, in Dead World.
Further Developments #2 & Archival Footage #5
On one of the picnic tables under the pergola in Living World.
Further Developments #3 & Archival Footage #6
On the bench at the Overlook in Living World. You can grab it before or after you speak to Gwen.
Further Developments #4 & Archival Footage #7
On top of the desk inside Moses's office, near the door, on the right when you walk into his office. Dead World.
Further Developments #5 & Archival Footage #8
Downstairs on top of the CD player in Hellerton House in Dead World.
You should achieve Further Developments when grabbing this one, as it's the last polaroid in chapter 2.

Selfie Care #1 & Archival Footage #9
On a table in the FAB's cafe in Dead World.
Selfie Care #2 & Archival Footage #10
In Vinh's office(Yasmin's lobby), on the coffee table. Dead World.
Selfie Care #3 & Archival Footage #11
In Dead World Lucas's office, near the typewriter.
Selfie Care #4 & Archival Footage #12
In the Snapping Turtle in Living World, over by the fireplace. Across from the other back patio door(the one you're never able to use.)
Selfie Care #5 & Archival Footage #13
In Hellerton House in Dead World, you'll find it near the back of the living room, near the plant.
You should achieve Selfie Care when grabbing this one, since it's the last polaroid of chapter 3.

Picture Taking #1 & Archival Footage #14
In Hellerton House, in Dead World. It's In the corner of the living room, complete opposite of the back door.
Picture Taking #2 & Archival Footage #15
In the Snapping Turtle, in Dead World. It's in the booth nearest to Amanda's note about the paintings.
Picture Taking #3 & Archival Footage #16
At the Snapping Turtle, outside on the back deck. You'll need to go out there for story reasons, and before you speak to who you need to speak to, grab the polaroid off the patio chair's arm.
Picture Taking #4 & Archival Footage #17
North Quad, on one of the picnic tables under the pergola. Living World.
Once you grab this one, you should get Picture Taking, as this is the last polaroid in chapter 4.

Viewfinding #1 & Archival Footage #18
On the railing where Safi's cigarettes were in chapter 1.
Viewfinding #2 & Archival Footage #19
Pinned to the back wall in Blackwell's girl's bathroom, where Max hid in the first game. When you're able to move, turn around.
Viewfinding #3 & Archival Footage #20
On the table where Max and Safi sat in chapter 1.
Upon grabbing this photo, you should achieve both Viewfinding and Archival Footage as it's both the final polaroid in chapter 5, and the final polaroid in the game in general.
Art Restoration
In chapter 1, once you're able to move around, go over toward the stage and look at the Handwritten Note.
Fix the painting above the Handwritten Note.
Fix the painting over by the fireplace.
Fix the painting around the corner from the bar.
After fixing the all three paintings, the achievement should pop.
Putting the "Cap" in "Caper"
In chapter 1, on the Observatory Rooftop, talk to Moses when you're ready. He'll give you the bottlecap and explain how the game is played.
The only way to succeed at giving Safi the bottlecap is to hide it in her favorite candy, Sour Kats. She will see you if you try to hide it in her bag or the cigarette case, and you will miss if you try to hide it in a snowball and hit her with it.
The achievement should pop once you give her the candy.
The Mail Gaze
Note: You must do this for Vinh if you want to achieve Favor Saver later in that save.

In chapter 1, on your way to see Yasmin, you'll need to talk to Vinh. After ending that conversation, go down the hall, past the library, and into the mail room on the left. (If you accidentally start the cutscene with Yasmin before getting him the package, you can do this after the conversation with her, too.)
Look at the mail bin, then take the package.
Give the package to Vinh.
The achievement should pop once you give Vinh the package.
Loyal Flush
In chapter 2, after Safi and Yasmin leave, go to the back of the Snapping Turtle and exit onto the porch.
Linger around long enough for the two guys to go quiet. Talk to them if you want, but you don't have to.
Go back inside, shift to Dead World, and exit back out onto the porch.
Use your powers (E on mouse & keyboard) to spy on them from the other world.
Once they finish talking, go back inside and grab the bathroom key off of the wall near the bar in Dead World.
Shift back to Living World and hang the key up on the wall.
The achievement should pop once you hang the key up.
Be Great, Do Crime!
Disclaimer: I am not 100% sure of this information, but I'm including everything that I think might be needed for this achievement, just in case. If anyone can confirm or deny this info, that would be great. (But before you do, please keep in mind that other achievements for this game seem to be tracked across saves. I can confirm I got Clutterbug in my second save after getting the second item in that save, so it is likely that Be Great, Do Crime! also tracks across saves.)

Be Great, Do Crime! #1
In chapter 2, when you are investigating what happened to Safi's car, you'll be in Gwen's office at a certain point. When you're in there and in Living World, examine her desk and look at the Final Essays. Flip through them until you see Loretta's paper, then back out of the essays. You'll then have an option to lower Loretta's grade. Do it.

Be Great, Do Crime! #2
In chapter 2, during the major choice of promising to cooperate with Alderman or not, choose Agree.
Then later, at the end of the episode, tell Moses you aren't actually going to cooperate.

Be Great, Do Crime! #3
In chapter 3, when you're in the FAB in Dead World, go down past Gwen's office and walk into the other open office. Look at the gradebook on the desk. (You can also listen to the kid talking on his phone near the elevators for context.)
Shift to Living World, go back into that office, and look at the gradebook there.
The password for the professor's computer is noted down at the bottom of the page, but it's not necessary for you to memorize it. Shift back to Dead World, return to the office, and Change Grade on the professor's computer.

At some point during these three things, the achievement should pop for you.
Clutterbug
Clutterbug #1
Nebb/Mr. Peanut on Meth/Mini Mascot. You can find it in the bowling alley at the beginning of the game. Look at the bigger Mascot Statue first, and after the cutscene, look down. You'll be able to take this little one.

Clutterbug #2
Arcadia bay photos. Chapter 1, while cleaning up before answering the door. Once you pick them up from the floor, they'll be in your inventory. Go upstairs and add them to the photo wall.

Clutterbug #3
Origami Flower. Chapter 1, before meeting with Yasmin. You can find it on a bench near the FAB entrance. Examine it and then unfold it twice.

Clutterbug #4
Rose. Chapter 1, after meeting with Yasmin. Go to the FAB, but don't meet with Moses yet. You'll find the roses on the long white table near Gwen's office.

Clutterbug #5
Candy. Chapter 2, Overlook path, Living World. While still in Living World, right after you go through the gate, look down at the ground. There will be a box of candy. Pick it up.

Clutterbug #6-8
Mustaches. Chapter 2, best to get after investigating Lucas, Gwen, and Vinh. On the way to see Living World Vinh in his office, go into the library. There will be three mustaches attached to the male busts along the walls. Remove all three.
The achievement should pop after grabbing the last mustache.

This achievement does track across saves, so you might get it early if you're following this guide after already playing another save. It should also work via Explore Mode.
Thinking Outside the Box
Thinking Outside the Box #1
To get the puzzle box and begin trying to solve it, you need to get it after Reggie throws it on the ground in frustration during chapter 1 when you're on your way to meet with Yasmin.
Talk to Reggie about the box, and you will have the opportunity to solve the first level.
Rotate the puzzle box until you get to the Founder's Statue side, and interact with it.
After Max finishes speaking, rotate the puzzle box again until you get to the Bird side, then interact with it.
After the cutscene finishes, rotate the box back to the Founder's Statue side again and interact with it once more.

Thinking Outside the Box #2
At the end of chapter 2, before going downstairs to meet Moses, go into Hellerton House's kitchen and interact with the puzzle box again.
Rotate it to the constellation side. From left to right, move each one down 2, 2, 1, and 2 spaces. When you get it right, you'll know.
Take the dial, and rotate the puzzle box to the Abraxas Logo side. Place the dial there.
Leave the outer dial alone, it starts in the correct position. Rotate the inner dial until the shield is under the bow and arrow. You'll know when you get it right.
Remove the lid, and the achievement should pop.
Thirst Trip
Thirst Trip #1
Water the plant in Dead World Gwen's office, when you're investigating her in chapter 2.

Thirst Trip #2
Water the plant in the corner of Hellerton House's living room at the end of chapter 2 (before meeting Moses downstairs). Living World.
The achievement should pop after watering the plant.
Page Turner
Page Turner #1
Gwen's book: Chapter 2, Gwen's office, Living World. When you enter her office in order to investigate her, her book will be on the desk directly opposite the door. It's titled "If the Highway should take me as it's Wife." Read it.

Page Turner #2
Safi's book: Chapter 3, Gwen's office, either world (determinant). If your relationship with Dead World Gwen is good enough, she will let you have Safi's manuscript at the end of your conversation. If it isn't, you'll need to shift over to Living World and steal Safi's manuscript from Gwen's desk.

Page Turner #3
Lucas's book: Chapter 3, Lucas's office, Dead World. While you're able to acquire Lucas's book earlier in the game, you cannot actually read it until here. Once you have the draft, you'll be prompted to flip between it and Lucas's book, the achievement counting as you do it.

The achievement should pop after you flip to Lucas's book.
Patronizing (The Good Kind)
Patronizing (The Good Kind) #1
Chapter 1, inside the FAB. After meeting with Yasmin and before meeting with Moses, go toward Gwen's office instead. There's a long, white table with two Abraxas kids giving out roses. Take one.

Patronizing (The Good Kind) #2*
Chapter 2, inside the FAB, Living World. Diamond's Dualtone phone booths. While investigating Vinh, Lucas, and Gwen, you're able to interact with this project. Use the Talk to the Future option, as Hear from the Past doesn't work unless you've talked to the future first. (Do both interactions, for good measure.)

Patronizing (The Good Kind) #3
Chapter 2, inside the FAB, Living World. Loretta's tablet, which she left under the tree inside the FAB. Listen to it.

Patronizing (The Good Kind) #4
Chapter 2, on the Overlook path, in Living World. Avery Delgado's Sanctuary. It's the big branch archway blocking your path upward. Before you switch worlds, interact with the project.

Patronizing (The Good Kind) #5
Chapter 3, inside the FAB, Living World. There's a mask display near the elevators. Interact with it.
After that, the achievement should pop.

* - There is a total of three chances to interact with this project, and you can technically interact with it in any of them. I have only listed the first opportunity, though. You can always go back in via Explore Mode, or simply interact in a different save, if you managed to miss all three chances.
Clue Me In
Clue Me In #1
Abraxas rose. Chapter 1, inside the FAB. After you've finished meeting with Yasmin and before meeting Moses, go toward Gwen's office. There's a long white table near her office with two Abraxas kids giving out roses. Take a rose.

Clue Me In #2
Safi's car. Chapter 2, Snapping Turtle, Living World. When you return to Safi and Yasmin, you will automatically gain this when talking to Safi.

Clue Me In #3
Lucas's book. Chapter 2, Dead World, FAB. Talk to Dead World Lucas once, then look at the stack of books on his table. Take one when it's offered.
Or don't, in which case you will find one on your fireplace mantle later in the chapter. Which is tremendously creepy and I wish I did not know this information.

Clue Me In #4
Gwen's email. Chapter 2, Dead World, Gwen's office. You'll automatically obtain this when you're investigating Gwen for the story.

Clue Me In #5
Mug photo. Chapter 2, Overlook path, Living World. Switch to Living World and go back down the path, away from the cop guarding the gate in Dead World. You'll find a tree with Safi's bear mug in it. Take a snapshot of it.

Clue Me In #6
Gwen's flash drive. Chapter 2, Overlook, Living World. In the major decision prompt you get toward the end of your talk with Gwen at the Overlook, choose to save the drive.
The achievement should pop after saving the footage.

This achievement does track across saves, and can be gotten via Explore Mode, so if you miss one, simply go back for it later.

I've seen other sources list the candy bar on the Overlook Path in chapter 2 after the Mug Tree as a clue. I didn't include it, as it does not show up in the clue box in the end of chapter 2 nor beginning of chapter 3. If you get all of the above clues and don't get the achievement, maybe try picking up the candy, if you haven't before. (And if it makes the achievement pop for you, please let me know so I can update this accordingly. ^-^)
Favor Saver
When you need to find the passcode for Vinh's phone and shift to Dead World to do it, do not cash in your favor.
The achievement should unlock once you choose to save it for later.

How to unlock Vinh's phone without using the favor:
Once exiting the conversation with Vinh, head into the library and approach the bookcase to the left of the fireplace.
Read the book. (You do not need to note down or memorize the year.)
Shift back to Living World and snoop in Vinh's desk.
Unlock Vinh's phone.
Home Sweet Home
In chapter 4, after Dead World Moses helps you and you shift back to talk to him, he'll accidentally break the chimney for his gingerbread house while speaking to you. Shift back to Living World and ask Safi if you can take her chimney for him.
After the cutscene finishes, shift back to Dead World and give Moses the chimney.
The achievement should pop once you give Safi's chimney to Dead World Moses.
Frame Fatale
IMPORTANT:
  • When I got this achievement, it was necessary to get all of them in a single save file, playing from beginning to end. This may no longer be the case, so I'd recommend finding what photos you missed and then seeking them out via Explore Mode and taking them first, to see if you can save yourself some time that way.
  • All but 5 photos can be taken no matter what choices you make. Three of those photos depend on if you romanced someone or not, but whichever you did, the photo(s) available to you in your save will count, so don't stress. One photo depends on if Gwen is present at the final scene, which I explain in this guide what you should do to ensure she is. One photo depends on a choice you make in chapter 4, which I explain when you're able to make that choice.
  • The cat photos are not needed for non-Ultimate Edition owners to get the achievement, but if you do have it, you should take them.

When you talk to Gwen at the Overlook, make sure to SAVE the footage.
While it is not 100% necessary to do this, I am unaware of a way to guarantee she'll be there in Chapter 5 without doing this, and you need to snapshot her there in order to achieve Frame Fatale. So, save the footage.

When you're able to move in the Snapping Turtle, turn around and speak to Gwen. Give her the flash drive, and reaffirm that she should fight to keep her job. This, I believe, confirms that Gwen will be in the Chapter 5 scene.

You need to speak to them once first. Make sure to take the snapshot before asking for help.
Gingerbread House (Dead World)
You need to get the chimney from Safi and give it to Moses in order to be able to take this snapshot. There is no alternate version of it if you don't do that, so don't skip it!

Gwen
After taking Gwen's picture, you should unlock the achievement.
Platypus Genius
In chapter 2, when you get to campus for the first time, shift to Dead World. There's a poster pinned to the tree near Safi's memorial/the FAB entrance. Look at it, then sign up.
After that, simply open their texts up every time they text you. The achievement should pop after you read the final text from them in chapter 5.
Heavy Petting & Nothing Lasts Fur-Ever
These are Ultimate Edition exclusive achievements. You're only able to get these if you own the Ultimate Edition version!

Heavy Petting
Chapter 4, Living World. When you gotta go change clothes, you'll find the cat laying down at the foot of your bed. Pet them, and enjoy every second of cuteness.
The achievement should pop once you've chosen to pet the cat.

Nothing Lasts Fur-Ever
Chapter 4, Living World. At the Krampus party, there's a poster advertising Loretta's podcast. It's pinned up on the wall near where Diamond and Moses are sitting, and near the patio doors. Look at the poster, then scan the QR code.
The achievement should pop once you've scanned the code.

Baron, Loretta's tablet, in the FAB? Huh. That would've never pinged on my radar as needed for... any achievement, really. I did interact with it in my first play-through, I think, so it definitely could've passively counted for me. I'll add it, thank you.
Baron 4 Jan @ 8:44pm
I didn't see it mentioned here, but for the achievement Patronizing (the good kind) i was missing the interaction with the tablet in chapter 2, by the horns. Had to walk away a few steps and return for the story to continue a couple of times which was the reason i missed it.

Axenor , good to know, thanks! I'll add it.

i got the clutterbug achievement after adding the arcadia bay photos to my wall on my second playthrough

skyequakes, yeah, I thought it might be a result of the update too.
I really didn't want to play the game a third time because I couldn't skip the dialogues, so I took the easy way out:winter2019joyfultearsdog:
Your dedication is amazing. 4-5 playthroughs. WOW :winter2019happyyul:
skyequakes  [author] 3 Dec, 2024 @ 10:29am
Seledochka , np!

That's so weird, though, 'cause it didn't work for me at all . I ended up having to do like 4 or 5 saves before I eventually unlocked Frame Fatale, and only originally missed two photos. In my first two saves, for Bae or Bay , I got all of the photos except the Mug Tree and the Stained Glass Window , and I tried both Explore Mode and creating a new save from the Mug Tree scene and advancing to the Stained Glass Window scene and taking both, and it didn't work. Only worked when I played a new save from the complete beginning to end. Achievement popped for me when I took Gwen's picture in the ending scene for the 3rd time overall :steamsad:

Maybe they've updated the game since I got the achievement, hmm. I'll update the guide to reflect that a full playthrough might not be needed anymore, thanks! :LIS_pixel_heart:

Thanks a lot for the guide!:winter2019happydog: :LIS_PolaPhoto:
I was able to get the "Frame Fatale" achievement while exploring the stage, even though you said in the important notes that it wouldn't work at the beginning and in the section "Frame Fatale"
