The Fear of the Lord is the Beginning of Wisdom.
By Sandra ✧✞°•
Fear God. Serve Him in sincerity and in faithfulness. How modern day "Christianity" lacks all these things, as it embraces a false christ and welcomes New Age and Occult teachings into the church.

From abhorring the word fear, to embracing it.
As a former New Ager, who considered herself to be an "open-minded Christian", I would despise the word fear. I often encountered Biblical Christians who'd mention fearing God. I couldn't wrap my head around what they were saying. The moment I'd see the word FEAR, my initial response was: RUN. I refused to listen from that point on. One of the things I learned in the New Age was to avoid ANYTHING negative since the New Age teaches that our thoughts have power to create and manifest and we attract what we focus on. So in order for "the self" to grow further towards "enlightement", anything remotely negative had to be avoided (such an exhausting hamster wheel).

Another reason why I was so hostile towards fearing God had to do with my past, when I was trapped in a highly violent and abusive relationship. The last thing I wanted was again having to fear someone who claims to love me. My understanding was that God is ONLY love, and fear and love can't go together. Trauma is a reason why so many people are drawn to New Age Spirituality and it's false light. satan knows our weaknesses. He exploits them. He is relentless!

The entire New Age is all about the self, the self being powerful, having control and being able to create and manifest, divinity within ourselves, working together with god (they call it "Source") to achieve our highest potential and become like christ (christ consciousness, not the Biblical Christ). "Negative" aspects as fear you will not find in a movement which claims to be all about "Love and Light" and "Positive Vibes". And specially not the idea of having to fear God, since they teach that God is our equal and that we are all one with the divine. That we are gods ourselves.

Sadly, these false teachings slowly have found their way into the church and many self professing Christians have abandoned Biblical sound doctrine to embrace them. I used to be one of them who was highly deceived by it. I was convinced that I was saved, that I was born again, while at the same time claiming that I didn't had to know the Bible to know God, but that I instead could rely on my personal spiritual experiences and the experiences of others. I knew a few Bible verses, the positive ones. The "feel good" verses which I would use out of context. The rest of Scripture, I would completely ignore. The fear of God was not in me at all.

The rejection of fear towards a Holy God is the first step to then mold Him into anything you like, even denying His Holiness. You'll end up with a false god made in your own image, who is there to serve you instead of the other way around. Make no mistake. That what the New Age claims to be love and light is not from God. These are doctrines of demons and all luciferian at it's root. It is the false light of satan who masquerades as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14-15).

Now that I am saved, all glory to God, and the veil has been lifted, and I now abide in His Word and in Him, I completely understand what it means to fear God and why it is so important. I went from despising it, to embracing it. All this is a work of God. Without Him, I would never been able to understand the Biblical meaning of fearing Him.

Bible verses about fearing the Lord.
Many probably know the verse "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom."(Psalm 111:10) but not many know that the entire Bible is full with the commandment to Fear God. It also tells us why:

● “Do not fear, for God has come to test you, that the fear of him may be before you, that you may not sin.” Exodus 20:20

● Oh that they had such a heart as this always, to fear me and to keep all my commandments, that it might go well with them and with their descendants forever! Deuteronomy 5:29

● Now therefore fear the Lord and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Joshua 24:14

● The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether. Psalm 19:9

● As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him. Psalm 103:13

● Then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. Proverbs 2:5

● The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate. Proverbs 8:13

● By steadfast love and faithfulness iniquity is atoned for, and by the fear of the Lord one turns away from evil. Proverbs 16:6

● Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. Ecclesiastes 12:13

● The Lord of hosts, him you shall honor as holy. Let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. Isaiah 8:13

These are just a few mentions of fearing God in the Old Testament. Now some may think that since these are in the OT, they do not apply to us today, but God is the same yesterday, today, forever. His whole counsel matters and stands. It doesn't stop in the OT but continues in the New Testament:

● His mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. Luke 1:50

● “Do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have nothing more that they can do. But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him!” Luke 12:4-5

● Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God. 2 Corinthians 7:1

● Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, Philippians 2:12

● By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith. Hebrews 11:7

● “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come, and worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water.” Revelation 14:7

● “Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship you, for your righteous acts have been revealed.” Revelation 15:4

When Scripture tells us to NOT fear, it tells us to not fear man or any hardship we will face in this world. When Scripture tells us to DO fear, it always refers to the fear of God. For unbelievers, the fear of God is the fear of God's judgment and eternal separation from Him. For the believer, the fear of God is something different. That fear is reverence for a Holy God.

The lack of fear towards a Holy God in modern day "Christianity".
Once we realize how sinful we are and how Holy God is, it will put the fear of God in us. This fear also is what leads to repentance. This fear is our friend. The problem with modern day "Christianity" is the lack of fear towards a Holy God. With a lack of fear also comes a lack of respect and a denial of His Holiness, His Majesty and His absolute Authority. There are eternal consequences to this.

God is righteous and just. Once we are saved and become His children (John 1:11-13), we want to be obedient towards Him and the boundaries and structures He has set out for us. Just as we once were children whose parents would instruct us and we wouldn't always understand because “this surely looks harmless and fun to me”, but our parents would foresee consequences where we couldn't. When we would go against their instructions, we knew we'd be in big trouble and be disciplined. Our Holy Father instructs and disiplines His children as well (see Hebrews 12:4-12).

Christ said that if we love Him, we obey His commandments (John 14:15). Sadly, many don't want to obey God. They want a god who gives suggestions instead of commandments. That's why Jesus Christ is so loved by today's world because the world doesn't follow the Biblical Jesus Christ but a false christ. This false christ is a cuddly teddy bear who is tolerant, not bothered by sin and is in agreement with all you desire. The world embraces a "life coach" jesus with no power to save, instead of the Biblical Jesus Christ, the ONLY Savior!

Many tragically mistaken God's patience as tolerance. When Jesus returns, He will arrive with the armies of heaven at His side. Every eye will see Him. Revelation tells us exactly what this will look like: His eyes are like a flame of fire, on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty.

That doesn't sound like a cuddly teddy bear. Instead, this shows Christ's absolute majesty, power and victory. In James 2:19 we read that even demons believe and tremble. Philippians 2:10-11 tells that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, in heaven, on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue willl confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God (Hebrews 10:31). This is the God who spoke the universe into existence by His Word. God is the Creator, God is not your equal, neither is He some genie you command to serve your wishes and desires. Instead, His Will be done at all times. Fearing God means having reverence for Him which impacts every aspect of our lives. The fear of God is respecting Him, submitting to Him, obeying Him and worshipping Him in complete awe.

God will not be mocked!
Everyone is a "Christian" these days until it gets Biblical. God will not be mocked. His wrath and judgment on this world is completely just. As it is written, so it will happen. His Word is truth and does not return to Him void. His Word will accomplish what He set it out to do. His will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Fear God, not man. Fear the Lord and serve Him in sincerity and in faithfulness. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight. For the fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, that one may turn away from the snares of death.

To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever. Jesus Christ, the author and finisher of our Faith, the source of eternal Salvation for all who obey Him. Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord God Almighty! To Him be the glory and power forever and ever! Amen.
