How to Fix Low FPS in Fallout 76 on PC
โดย Deraznus Skytail™
PC VAULT DWELLERS! EXPLORERS!

Vault-Tec calling.

Let me guess... you have 20-30 fps in-game and in-menu... Don't worry... I gotchu!

Most players hover between 20 and 50 FPS no matter how you set the graphics in game settings or the resolution ,Fortunately, there’s a quick and easy solution to this low and wacky FPS issue, handled outside of Fallout 76, and this all was by 1 setting called (V-sync) which you can't set in-game settings THANKS BETHESDA, "It just works" right? Right. So the playerbase (community) will step in again and fix your game...

PC players have been dealing with this specific issue in Fallout 76 since the game's initial release. After some investigation by the community, the cause was discovered to be probably the V-sync only. For some reason, there's no option to disable Vsync within the game's graphics settings, and it's enabled by default on all PCs. This means without going into the game files, you’ll be forced to have Vsync enabled, which essentially caps your FPS.

To fix your low FPS problem, follow the steps below to uncap your FPS and disable Vsync in Fallout 76:
Steps 1-7
1. Exit Fallout 76 and go to the following file directory: C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\My Games\Fallout 76

2. Find the Fallout76Prefs.ini file in the directory

3. Open it and use Ctrl+F to search for the word “Interval”

4. You should find a setting that reads: “iPresentInterval=1”

5. You need to change that setting to read: “iPresentInterval=0”

6. This disables Vsync in Fallout 76. When you’re done, go to the top left of the screen, click “File,” then “Save As,” and exit the directory.

7. Open Fallout 76 back up, and your FPS should be much higher

Keep in mind.
If done correctly, you should no longer experience lower FPS. However, I still recommend keeping your graphics settings relatively low in Fallout 76, as increasing them won't significantly improve the game's visuals.
Final Note.
As a final note, I also suggest capping your FPS to 90 using your GPU software (Nvidia Control Panel) as long as you have NVIDIA Graphics Card. A fully uncapped FPS causes issues with the game engine and can lead to you being stuck in indoor buildings without even doing anything. I had my FPS uncapped and couldn’t move as soon as I entered a building, even after pressing WASD and space bar. Leaving your FPS uncapped can also lead to game crashes and other problems, but if you set it to 90, you won’t have any unexplained issues.
Cap FPS (Nvidia)
If you have Nvidia Graphics Card, then you can cap your FPS very easily by using NVIDIA Control Panel.

Open your Nvidia control panel, and click on the "Manage 3D settings"

You will see 2 tabs there:
"Global settings" and "Program settings".
Click on "Program settings", then check if the Fallout 76 appears in the default list.
If it doesn't - un-check "show only programs found on this computer".

Go to "1.Select a program to customize" and start scrolling down until
you find the "Fallout 76 (fallout76.exe)" and select it.

Under "2.Specify the settings for this program" scroll down to the "Max Frame Rate".

Click on it, then tick the "On" after that set your fps to 90 using the Blue slider.

Then hit "Ok" and then "Apply".

And You're ready to play again in a good Framerate.
Thank you for using my guide. Safe travels.

Enjoy^^

Ohh, and don't forget to drop your PC Spec down there in the comments with which you suffered in a low framerate! :3

Here's mine. ( Ryzen 5-5600 / GTX 1080 )

Before:
Menu: 25-32 FPS / In-GAME: 20-32 FPS
After:
Menu: 90 FPS / In-GAME: 70-90 FPS

this makes the game feel way less choppier, thanks! AMD also has a fps limiter called AMD Chill for people with AMD video cards!

Sometimes I am surprised at how much the quality of games has fallen, imagine buying a game you still have to fix it yourself to make it work properly on a computer for 1000$.

All this does is disable the vsync + built in frame limiter but not a "real" fps increasement... if you had 46fps before in some specific areas you'll still have 46fps. Even here with a ridiculously modern DX12 GPU Im getting stupid low FPS.

Same as Fallout 4 it is the old DX11 crappy engine and it isn't mean to be played at beyond 60fps... I'd say remove the VSYNC limiter but limit the framerate around 60 still.
