Description

someone challenged me to get sub 5 horn on special crab a couple months ago and this was the best time i got.

crab has a really annoying moveset, and whenever it walks away from you or digs you lose a lot of time and dps. it takes a lot of damage though and has relatively low hp for a anomaly monster, so any weapon that can maximise cc on it thrives.

horn is relatively strong on crab due to its cc potential. blunt weapons in general perform well on crab since it has a relatively high blunt hitzone on head, and exhaust flinches on crab are basically topples. horn shockwaves also magnetise to the head. horn is able to cc crab effectively with kos, exhaust topples, head topples, and favourable mount timing. elemental attack song also boosts the damage output from dogs.

horn's dps is of course still way lower than that of dual blades or charge blade, but horn might actually be stronger than switch axe on this monster, and is definitely stronger than other low tier weapons. if the crab moves less i.e. no walk back into claw slam or water beam, this would be a 3'0X run.

i considered using blood awakening and getting hit for bloodblight (since crab has very late partbreaks you can't rely on blood rite), but bloodblight can only be procced on certain moves, and its uptime sucks in the latter half of the run. a blood awakening sets will also require sharpening once to maintain purple sharpness. i used heaven sent instead to maintain sharpness, and since the set was more efficient with heaven sent i could afford to slot in element resistance decos for damage.
