RMS Empress of Britain (1930)

Here is the RMS Empress of Britain of the Canadian Pacific Steamship Company.

She was the second ship of the company to bear the name, and was the largest ship ever operated by the company. She was completed in 1931, and would only serve 8 years as a passenger ship due to the outbreak of WW2 in 1939. When war was declared, she was converted into a troopship. In 1940, while off the coast of Ireland, she was heavily damaged by German bomber which started multiple fires on board and disabling her engines. Her crew were evacuated by 2 destroyers and an ASW trawler. A small force of destroyers and tugboats came to tow her back to port, but she was spotted again by the submarine U-32, which fired 2 torpedoes at the liner. The first torpedo failed to hit, but the second torpedo struck the ship causing a massive explosion. U-32 fired a third torpedo at the liner which finally finished her off. Empress of Britain was the largest ship ever sunk by a U-boat, and the largest liner lost during WW2.
