How to use the Ultimate Flag Texture Pack

This is a tutorial/guide on how to use my mod, the Ultimate Flag Texture Pack. Some people have suggested this to me, and I decided to create one.

This guide will be comprehensive, going over everything from spawning models to applying textures, to bodygroups. Without further ado, let's begin.

The four flag types
The mod currently has textures for 4 (four) types of flags: animated, desk flags, indoor flags, and regular flying flags. Each flag type has its own folder, which contains textures designed for that kind of flag.


Animated flags
Textures for the animated flag model, which is from this addon/mod (click here), are located in the "animated" folder. The full path is Spawnlists > Browse Materials > Addons > Ultimate Flag Texture Pack > flags > animated.


And this is what it looks like:



Desk flags
This addon/mod contains textures for 🍎Spicy_Apples🍎's Desk Flags addon. These textures are located in the "desk_flags" folder. The full path is Spawnlists > Browse Materials > Addons > Ultimate Flag Texture Pack > flags > desk_flags.

Indoor flags
This addon/mod contains textures for the indoor flag models from the World Flags addon. These textures are located in the "indoor_flags" folder. Same as the others--the full path is Spawnlists > Browse Materials > Addons > Ultimate Flag Texture Pack > flags > indoor_flags.

This is what they look like.


Flying/outdoor flags
And finally, there are textures for the outdoor flag models from World Flags -Add Pole. These textures are located in the "flying" folder. Same as the others--the full path is Spawnlists > Browse Materials > Addons > Ultimate Flag Texture Pack > flags > flying.
Applying the textures to the models: Animated flags
To apply a custom texture to an animated flag model, you need to spawn one. Click the "Entities" tab, then go to "Animated Flags". Click on "Animated Flag", and an animated flag will be spawned.



Then, click on the "Spawnlists" tab, and click on the "+" (plus sign) next to "Browse Materials". Under that, click on the "+" (plus sign) next to "Addons".



Wait for everything to finish loading--a "+" (plus sign) will appear next to "Ultimate Flag Texture Pack" once GMod finishes loading all the materials/textures you have subscribed to. Click on the "+" (plus sign) next to "Ultimate Flag Texture Pack".


Then, expand the "flags" folder by clicking on the "+" (plus sign) next to it. Click on the "animated" folder and wait for the textures to load--this might take a while.


Find the texture you want to use and right-click it. Copy it to the clipboard, then go to the Tools menu. Select the SubMaterial tool, which should be under "Render".


Paste the texture path into the search bar (or "Mat" field). Make sure it appears exactly as it should or it won’t work. Press Enter.


Then use the tool to apply it to the model, by aiming it at the flagpole (not the flag on the pole) like so:


Scroll down to the first slot using the scroll wheel on your mouse, like so:


And finally, just click on the model using the left mouse button to replace the original texture in that slot, and apply the new texture to the model.


And that's it. Onto the next section.
Applying the textures to the models: Desk flags
To apply a custom texture to a desk flag model, you need to spawn one. Click the "Spawnlists" tab, then go to "Browse > Addons".


Scroll down, and click on "Desk flags". Select "desk flag 1", and a desk flag will be spawned.


Then, open the spawn menu, click on the "Spawnlists" tab, and click on the "+" (plus sign) next to "Browse Materials". Under that, click on the "+" (plus sign) next to "Addons".



Wait for everything to finish loading--a "+" (plus sign) will appear next to "Ultimate Flag Texture Pack" once GMod finishes loading all the materials/textures you have subscribed to. Click on the "+" (plus sign) next to "Ultimate Flag Texture Pack".


Then, expand the "flags" folder by clicking on the "+" (plus sign) next to it. Click on the "desk_flags" folder and wait for the textures to load--this might take a while.


Find the texture you want to use and right-click it. Copy it to the clipboard, then whip out the SubMaterial tool.


Paste the texture path into the search bar (or "Mat" field). Make sure it appears exactly as it should or it won’t work. Press Enter.


Then use the tool to apply it to the model, and aim it at this part, right here:


Scroll down to the second slot using the scroll wheel on your mouse, like so:


And finally, just click on the model using the left mouse button to replace the original texture in that slot, and apply the new texture to the model. Remember to keep the cursor/reticle focused on the desk flag.




Tip: If you want, you can also change the model's bodygroup. Just press "C", right-click it, and go to "Body Groups". Select "Flag", and you'll get this:


And that's it. Onto the next section.
Applying the textures to the models: Outdoor/flying flags
To apply a custom texture to a flying flag model, you need to spawn one. Click the "Spawnlists" tab, then go to "Browse > Addons".


Scroll down, and click on "World Flags -Add Pole". Select a flag, and a flag will be spawned.


Then, open the spawn menu, click on the "Spawnlists" tab, and click on the "+" (plus sign) next to "Browse Materials". Under that, click on the "+" (plus sign) next to "Addons".



Wait for everything to finish loading--a "+" (plus sign) will appear next to "Ultimate Flag Texture Pack" once GMod finishes loading all the materials/textures you have subscribed to. Click on the "+" (plus sign) next to "Ultimate Flag Texture Pack".

Tip: If you want, you can also apply different textures in the other slots. To switch between them, press "C", right-click on the outdoor flag, and go to "Skin". Select a skin that corresponds to the slot you applied the texture to.

"Skin 0" corresponds to "models/gmod_flag/bmflag_a".
"Skin 1" corresponds to "models/gmod_flag/flag1".
"Skin 2" corresponds to "models/gmod_flag/flag2", and so on.

So, you'd get something like this:

To apply a custom texture to an indoor flag model, you need to spawn one. Click the "Spawnlists" tab, then go to "Browse > Addons".

Then, expand the "flags" folder by clicking on the "+" (plus sign) next to it. Click on the "indoor_flags" folder and wait for the textures to load--this might take a while. The textures will be displayed on the right.


Find the texture you want to use and right-click it. Copy it to the clipboard, then whip out the SubMaterial tool.


Paste the texture path into the search bar (or "Mat" field). Make sure it appears exactly as it should or it won’t work. Press Enter.


Then aim the tool at the model to apply the new texture to it. Scroll down to the third slot using the scroll wheel on your mouse, like so:


And finally, just click on the model using the left mouse button to replace the original texture in that slot, and apply the new texture to the model. Remember to keep the cursor/reticle focused on the indoor flag.



Tip: If you want, you can also apply different textures in the other slots. To switch between them, press "C", right-click on the outdoor flag, and go to "Skin". Select a skin that corresponds to the slot you applied the texture to.

"Skin 0" corresponds to "models/gmod_flag/bmflag_a".
"Skin 1" corresponds to "models/gmod_flag/flag16".
"Skin 2" corresponds to "models/gmod_flag/flag17", and so on.
