The gun is coated with Vantablack paint, which absorbs an astonishing 99% of light.
To prevent the weapon from being lost, pearl strips have been applied.
However, as the skin of the paint deteriorates, it begins to flake off, making the weapon more visible.

The name is a portmanteau of the acronym VANTA (vertically aligned nanotube arrays) and black.

The original Vantablack coating was grown using a chemical vapour deposition process
