Character Set Up
Chester

is the best character to use for this set up because you get gold bags for each level up after you max out all of your items. So, the faster you level up the more gold you get as well up to level 200 of course (200 is max level). The aura's you want are earned at Survivor Level 4 & 5

Side Note

You can also use Cain as a starting character but you don't get him till much much later in the game. He also gets an Exp Earned Bonus and a much stronger starting item but the Exp Earned Bonus isn't as high.
Pet & Follower
So for even more bonus Gold! This pet is the only pet in the game that comes with a Gold bonus that can be upgraded for 10% more. It's hatched from the Common Egg.

The only follower than can help with gold also is as such and can be crafted from Brumik in the workshop before it appears to use in the tavern. The items it takes to craft can be found using the bestiary to show which mob type drops the required items.

Bestiary Bonus
You can also get another extra 10% Gold Bonus from earned 100% completion of the Field Crossing map.

Once you have it 100% completed, there will be an option to select from before going into the map when selecting your character.

Map Options
So there are several options to be efficient when gold farming depending on how strong your build is with the required items of course. The best Maps are those that have long hallways or corridors while slowly moving in 1 direction to force mobs to spawn in front of you. Some examples are as follows:

Field Crossing

Caverns

Sewers

Castle Ruins

Castle Keep

These 4 maps are going to be best in order from weakest to the strongest map.

Side Note

Caverns is one of the only maps that does NOT have ranged units towards the end of the map.

Hand of Midas can now hit 2 enemies if they are close together, but you need the Targets +1 aura.

When you play in a group I suggest trying the Exp build (Sage armor set and Exp attributes) to see if you can reach level 200. This will earn you tons of gold bags from levelling up. Also use the Exp Share aura, which generates extra exp and gives it to other players whenever you receive exp. This can add up to 30% extra exp if all 5 players use it.

The Hand of Midas weapon applies a status effect to mobs that cause them to drop a gold coin when they die. A few mobs are immune to the effect.
The M1D45 follower also uses this weapon (it's crafted in the Workshop) so it can help farm gold coins from mobs.
There's now a small chance of a gold statue, instead of a coin, dropping from a mob. It's quite valuable and can be sold or used to unlock a random entry in the Bestiary.
