Introduction
Since CS is in quite a poor state right now (as of 15/06/2024), I think it is about time we all start doing something with our lives, such as "touching grass". So, today I will be showing you how to make a lasagna!
Ingredients
For the Meat Sauce
-1 lb (450g) ground beef
-1 lb (450g) ground Italian sausage
-1 large onion, finely chopped
-4 cloves garlic, minced
-2 cans (28 oz each) crushed tomatoes
-2 cans (6 oz each) tomato paste
-2 cans (15 oz each) tomato sauce
-1/2 cup red wine (optional)
-1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
-1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
-1 tablespoon sugar
-2 teaspoons dried oregano
-1 teaspoon dried basil
-1 teaspoon salt
-1/2 teaspoon black pepper
-1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
For the Ricotta Mixture
-32 oz ricotta cheese
-1 large egg
-1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
-1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
-1/2 teaspoon salt
-1/4 teaspoon black pepper
For Assembly
-12 lasagna noodles
-4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
-1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Garnish
-Fresh basil leaves (optional)
Step 1: Preparing the Meat Sauce

Brown the Meat: In a large pot or Dutch oven, cook the ground beef and Italian sausage over medium heat until browned. Break up the meat as it cooks to ensure it crumbles nicely.

Add Aromatics: Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute.

Add Tomatoes and Wine: Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and red wine (if using). Mix until well combined.

Season: Add the fresh basil, parsley, sugar, oregano, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir to combine.

Simmer: Bring the sauce to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for at least 45 minutes to 1 hour, stirring occasionally. This allows the flavors to meld together beautifully.
Step 2: Preparing the Ricotta Mixture

Mix Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, chopped parsley, grated Parmesan cheese, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well blended.
Step 3: Preparing the Noodles

Cook the Noodles: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the lasagna noodles and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain the noodles and lay them flat on a baking sheet or clean kitchen towels to prevent sticking.
Step 4: Assembling the Lasagna

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Layer the Ingredients:
‣Spread Sauce: Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.
‣Add Noodles: Place a layer of lasagna noodles over the sauce.
‣Ricotta Mixture: Spread one-third of the ricotta mixture over the noodles.
‣Mozzarella: Sprinkle one-third of the shredded mozzarella cheese over the ricotta mixture.
‣Meat Sauce: Spread another layer of meat sauce over the cheese.

Repeat Layers: Repeat the layers two more times, ending with a final layer of meat sauce. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese and the grated Parmesan cheese on top.
Step 5: Baking the Lasagna

Cover and Bake: Cover the lasagna with aluminum foil. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

Uncover and Bake: Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the lasagna is bubbly and the cheese is melted and golden brown on top.

Rest: Let the lasagna rest for 15-20 minutes before slicing. This allows it to set and makes it easier to serve.
Step 6: Serving
Garnish and Serve: Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired. Slice and serve warm.
