Downloading Beemod
THIS IS ONLY FOR WINDOWS!!!

To install Beemod, go to the GitHub page here[github.com]
Under "Releases," select the latest version, which in this example, would be 4.45.2.
The rest of the guide will also be using 4.45.2.
Then, scroll down. Under "Assets," select either BEE2_v4.45.2_win32.zip or BEE2_v4.45.2_win64.zip.

Can't decide which one to choose?

  • If you have Windows 11 -> choose the win64 zip
  • If you have a different Windows -> look up how to find if your computer is 64 or 32 bit. If it is 32 bit, use win32, and if it's 64-bit use win64.

Extract the zip somewhere, such as a "beemod" folder in your downloads, then continue to the next step.
Item Packages
For Beemod to work, you need to download the item packages for it.
Head over to the BEE2-items GitHub repository[github.com]
Next, go to the latest release. There will only be one .zip file under "Assets," and that's the one you need.
Then, extract the contents of this zip to the "packages" folder in the directory where you extracted Beemod.

Now, you can open BEE2.exe.
Using Beemod
After opening Beemod, you will be prompted to choose where your game executable is. Most likely, Portal 2 is installed at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Portal 2\portal2.exe. Double-click that file, and continue.
You will then be prompted to type the name of the game, where the default will be "PORTAL 2." Just press OK.

After all that, the interface should look something like the following:
I have already used Beemod, so yours will not be the exact same as mine.

Note: Checkboxes and such can be hovered for a description!
At the top-left, you should see "Palettes." I recommend "Portal 2 Collapsed."

At the bottom-left, you will see "Compile Options." Under the "Map Settings," tab you can set the player mode, toggle "Use voiceline priorities," you can set where the player will spawn, and the character model.
Still in Compile Options, under the "Compile Settings" tab, you can change you're lighting mode between None, Fast, and Full. Note that "None" is pretty much just fullbright. You can also set the thumbnail shown for your map!

At the top-right, you'll see the Export Options window. This has a button to export your changes to the game, change the style, voice, skybox, the corridor between the elevator and chamber entrance, the chamber music, and the video around the border of the elevator room.

At the bottom-right, you'll see "Style/Item properties." I'm not going to explain all of this, so just hover over the checkboxes to see what they do.

The Palette Editor
In the middle, you'll find the palette editor.
This is where you can edit the items you have access to in the Portal 2 chamber editor.
I recommend starting off with "Portal 2 Collapsed." Select that, then you should see ten empty slots on the left side. You can then drag in items from the right side into those empty slots.

If you drag in something such as the Logic AND, you will not see this in your empty slots. Intead, you'll see "Logic Gates" appear in your palette. This is general-purpose, and in game you can right click it and go to "button type" to change it.

To remove something from your palette, drag it from the left side to the right.
Once you are done making your changes, if your game is open, close it, then, press Export to "PORTAL 2," and press "yes" to the launch game prompt.
Conclusion
And that's my guide for using Beemod! Thanks for reading it - and if you have anything you'd like to say, please leave a comment!
