Unwritten rules of Trailmakers

Some of the unwritten rules of trailmakers for new and seasoned trailmakers alike.

This may not be fully comprehensive or align with what other people think. Just some I thought should be known to players getting into multiplayer.

Basic etiquette

-When joining a Server, say hi!.
Its nice to make yourself known and asking how someones day is / what they are working on is a nice way to start conversation.

-Don't bother someone about something if they have already expressed they are not interested.
that could be: trying a build of yours(or theirs), saving a build, doing something like following you, racing, etc..
and try not to spam if people are unresponsive.

-Along the lines of the last bullet, don't "steal" builds (taking and saving without permission) its not kind to take other people work and is akin to plagiarism if you re upload a build and claim it to be yours. Try and ask to save it, or ask if it is on the workshop so you can support the creator!

-Give some space in build zones, TM can get glitchy with lots of build close or even inside each other, and some people have some big builds!

-Respect the server rules and banned blocks, at the end of the day its the hosts server.
this includes: no glitches, no guns (or EMP), no profanity. etc..

-Try not to lag out servers!, if its your server do what you like but its good to respect other peoples frames by refraining from spawning complex builds or lighting up the sky with every projectile in the game.

-Be humble!, and you may be more experienced than others but that dose not mean you need to put others down by bragging or gloating. Just say thank you.

-Always try and help new people out!
Or even experienced people with complex logic or build problems.

-Try and be nice! Even if someone is being difficult. Its a game and its supposed to be fun, so keep conversation fun and non-controversial. But I will say this is up to the host discretion.

RACING:
-Try not to crash into other players, it ruins the fun!

-DO NOT build in a race zone!
it makes it so players trying to race can not start because it will say the person building is not ready.

Where and when is it OK to fight?

It is OK when: the server name states that it is a PvP server, weather that be tanks or a dog fighting server, the host has already specified that it is a server for fighting.

BUT- if someone asks to not be shot ESPECIALLY the host, you should respect their request. Maybe the server has moved on from its original goal.

It is Not OK when: the server has not specified that it is a PvP server and you shoot someone without asking first. and if no one wants to fight, respect that and find somewhere else to fight.

It is Not OK or polite to shoot when: someone is in build mode, it is annoying and only serves to be a nuisance.

It is Not OK to: carpet bomb people or test weaponry on people without asking.

It is Not OK to: shoot people on the carrier or when they just take off

Conclusion

I hope this can help some people out in navigating Trailmakers multiplayer.
Just remember to respect other people and have some fun :).

another thing i’d like to add is 1: don’t claim that you built something when it was actually from the workshop
2: try not to excessively drive around someone who’s in build mode, it can be really distracting especially off-road where it makes dust clouds
3: this one is mainly for competitive dogfighting, but if two people are in the middle of a battle, it’s rude to join in and attack without notice, it’s usually best to either ask or wait until the fight is over
4: please please pleaaaase, if the server has banned blocks, dont excessively question it, usually when blocks are banned it’s for good reason and the host has probably been asked about it several times already; even if it’s your first time asking them, they’ve probably been asked multiple times before and it can get very annoying, so either just deal with the banned blocks or join another server

thanks, i was once banned for asking to be left alone on a build and chill server XD, i was using a basic bird and they had a like 2 miniguns and 2 rockets, i asked them if they could leave me alone and the sever owner banned me for it XD

Another thing is knowing (as a server host) that some people join by map selection rather than by server browser as the server browser can't filter by map or region.
The game grants those people no oportunity to read the rules in the server name and can not be expected to know them. Don't ban people without prior notice, especially for rule-violations that harm noone directly (like spawning workshop creations and using them in a non-competitive enviroment). If people admit to accusations and ask about the wrongs of their behaviour they might be cocky, or they might genuinly not kow the specific rules of your server.

On the other hand, if you enter the server through the map selection because you want to play a rare map in a rare region its not to much to ask of you to report to chat and get informed about the rules proactively. The guide allready covered reporting to chat being basic ettiquete

One thing i expected to be here is when people want to dogfight, and when they do they use a plane that has 8 lasers, gyros set to 10 strength, 4 rockets, and use glitches as propulsion.

It is good that someone understands that there are "unwritten rules", but that should not have a guide, because this is about ethics and common sense, even so there are many people who do not respect these unwritten rules that are very important rules, if I can sey, more important than the oficial rules. Still very good guide :)
