"GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!"

Features: Design and Development:
The VC10 was designed and built by Vickers-Armstrongs (Aircraft) Ltd.
It first flew at Brooklands, Surrey, in 1962.
The VC10 was often compared to the larger Soviet Ilyushin Il-62, as both were the only airliners to use a rear-engined quad layout.
Its rear engines provided an efficient, clean wing design and reduced cabin noise.
Performance:
The VC10 was designed for long-distance routes, particularly from shorter runways of that era.
It excelled in hot and high-performance operations from African airports.
Notably, it achieved the fastest subsonic jet airliner crossing of the Atlantic, completing the journey in 5 hours and 1 minute. This record stood for 41 years until a British Airways Boeing 747 broke it in February 2020 due to Storm Ciara
Engines:
The VC10 was powered by four Rolls-Royce Conway turbofan engines.
Each engine was capable of producing a maximum thrust of 22,500 lbf.
The rear-mounted engines contributed to the aircraft’s quiet passenger cabin
Wing Design:
The VC10 featured a generous wing equipped with wide chord Fowler flaps and full-span leading-edge slats.
These design elements ensured good take-off and climb performance
T-Tail Configuration:
The VC10’s soaring T-tail design was distinctive.
It contributed to the aircraft’s aesthetic appeal and overall performance
Service History:
The VC10 served with BOAC and other airlines from the 1960s to 1981.
It was also used as a strategic air transport for the Royal Air Force (RAF).
Some ex-passenger models were converted into aerial refueling aircraft
Retirement:
The VC10 was retired from RAF service on September 20, 2013.
Its aerial refueling role was succeeded by the Airbus Voyager.
