Getting Started: Things you will need
Before starting, This is all you are going to need:

A nexus mods account (To install the Ini files we are gonna need, you dont need a premium account for this guide) https://www.nexusmods.com/

Notepad++ (This will help us edit the FPS cap): https://notepad-plus-plus.org/downloads/

With that out of the way, Lets start with the guide!

Explanation of the problem
To start, Fallout 76 is a REALLY badly optimazed game.

This are the specifications that Fallout 76 has on its steam page:

It dosent look too bad, right? thats until you play the game, and you notice that you have a bad time reching at least 60 FPS on low settings, even if you surpass the recommended specs by a mile!

I have made this guide to help other people fix their performance problems with fallout 76 on Low to Mid machines.
With a little tweaking, it is possible to play this game with a stable framerate and minimum frame drops! (althought, there will be problems in some multiplayer events, like the “nuclear blast” event, but thats expected with the amount of stuff that happens in that kind of event) but it has a 95% chance that it will fix your low performance.

Keep in mind that this fix will put the graphics in a VERY low mode (Like for example, the water will look white), so, if you want to maximaze performance without losing quality, you can follow this post on the mod page:

Its not the best, but you atleast have some other options!

The Fix
First, after making your nexus mod account, we are gonna Install this mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout76/mods/1504

This mod is going to help us a ton to get a good FPS.

But before installing it, we need to remove the annoying FPS cap that all bethesda games have on PC, to do this, we need to use Notepad ++

Got to your documents folder in your computer, and search for a folder called MyGames, and then go to Fallout76 folder inside

Then, open your Fallout76Prefs.ini with notepad++, and click in the Search/find buttons.

A window will appear, and you will have to put iPresentInterval

Click enter, and it will appear this command, change the value from 1 to 0 (Remember to do this after you installed the ini mod, just in case)

And thats how you take the fps cap!

Now, you need to install the mod, its just a few ini files, so dont worry!

Go to the “files” section, and click “manual download”

After you installed it, extract the file with winrar or 7zip, you will see 3 files, just drag n´drop them to the Documents/MyGames/Fallout76 folder, and replace all the files (Remember to change the FPS cap that i mentioned before if you have problems).

Also, remember to cap your FPS with the Nvidia or AMD control panels, since this game has a lot of problems running beyond 60 FPS.

This are my AMD settings for Fallout 76 if it helps you!

An there you go! You can now play Fallout 76 with a Low to Mid PC

I hope it helps, remember to like and award this guide if it helped you! and follow the PC gaming wiki page if you have any more problems, there is a few interesting stuff around there!:

See you next time!
