introduction

This manual still in progress, i planned to write some kind of tutorial and add more information about nets
known nuances
  • looks like fish spawnrate significantly lower on MP servers
  • fish spawn near players and despawn if it get too far, so dont let net be further than 300 meters from you, at this distance fish might despawn before it can get to net
  • if net is full, fish will go through and you can catch it by second net, placed behind first net
  • net can retract up to 1/4 of original size and extend up to 4 times of original size with same proportions
  • net can hold up to 512 fishes
  • Pulling nets through the water will cause them to billow out (dont use otter boards)
  • no matter how much extend/retract nodes activated, speed of size changes will be the same
  • no matter which one of extend/retract nodes activated width/height proportions will be the same as original (at moment of spawn) proportions
2 last points suggest there is no point in using logic on more than 1 net anchor
Making efficient net
You can make anchors with multiple nets like this:
Multiple nets allow you to trawl over greater distances without having to empty the nets.
Also looks like if nets close to each other, fish can be caught in multiple nets simultaneously giving you 2-4 fish instead of just 1, so you get more fish per fish.

Because you can retract nets up to 1/4 of their original size, you can make net 4 times bigger than can hold your ship and retract it after spawn (it make sense to make net as big as possible)

Most of valuable fishes will have hotspots depeer than 100 meter, so its recommended to make the net able to be lowered to great depths
hotspots
you can use addons like this to get all hotspots with depth

Different species will have hotspots on different depths (you can look up that in table below)

hotspots have considerable more fish, so their purchase may be good decision, even if they far awayu from main island (but your ship probably need large cargo hold, so it can make long trips to hotspots worthy)
fish types and cost
if you know biom of fish, that missing in this table, please write a comment with location (preferably coordinates)

yea, checked with no-clip, fish despawn after 300 meters
keep-active shouldnt change anything because fish spawn near player, not vehicles
Bermy_Ru (Urmipie-ka)  [author] 29 May @ 9:47am
huh, max range make sense, since i belive that fish spawn only around player
well, gonna try to check max spawn range with sonar and net, thanks Orgald
Orgald 25 May @ 2:05am
Other observation, if your nets are too far from you or your ship, fishs aren't spawning arround, I will try with a keep active block on the net to see if it works
Orgald 25 May @ 1:52am
Hey it need some verify but from what I've seen black dragon fish is only spawning at night
Bermy_Ru (Urmipie-ka)  [author] 22 May @ 1:37pm
catching more than 64 fishes per net - not really sure, but mb multiple nets can somehow broke this limit
Some fast tests with 1 net shown that there is a cap (after 64 fish just swim through net), but i didnt test with multiple nets
Orgald 18 May @ 1:07am
*edit* after a test, with the same total area of net, with one net I got around 35-40 units of fish.
with 4 nets I got 130 to 140 units
Orgald 18 May @ 12:35am
so what's the best ? having a huge net or many small ?
crazygoose4219 17 May @ 9:01pm
not sure depth but south east of the tropic island things I found a ballin lizard fish
TheMan2000 17 May @ 10:48am
i am fairly certain that gulper eels only spawn between 250 (maybe 275) and 300 meters down (the ocean never seems to exceed 300 meters in depth), and given that i also caught anglerfish and black dragonfish while my net was down there, i presume they also have similar ranges.
as for biomes, i'll have to explore around some more.

ive been doing some fishing and i found that you can catch more than just 64 fish. from what im seeing it may be dependent on the type of fish as a "size" per catch. and the net has a max "amount/volume" of fish to catch
