Helldivers 2 Difficulty Guide (Version 1.5)

Edited: This user's original guide May or May Not be deleted but I will expand on the original guide to clarify some more information.

Here's a breakdown of how players unlock each difficulty:

1. Trivial: Available immediately.
2. Easy: Complete a mission on Trivial difficulty.
3. Medium: Complete a mission on Easy difficulty.
4. Challenging: Complete a mission on Medium difficulty.
5. Hard: Complete a mission on Challenging difficulty.
6. Extreme: Complete a mission on Hard difficulty.
7. Suicide Mission: Complete a mission on Extreme difficulty.
8. Impossible: Complete a mission on Suicide Mission difficulty.
9. Helldive: Complete a mission on Impossible difficulty.
10. Super Helldive: Complete a mission on Helldive difficulty.

This progression system encourages players to gradually increase the difficulty as they become more experienced and skilled in the game. Each difficulty level offers a tougher challenge than the previous one, preparing players for the ultimate test of skills.

The Mission
The mission you must complete to unlock the next difficulty are the "Operation" mission[helldivers.wiki.gg] (the one in yellow area)

You either

A:
As the Host of that game, completed all the missions within that operation to unlock the next difficulty level

OR

B:
Join someone who on an operation mission and if your lucky, they maybe on the last mission of that operation mission and it will still count toward unlocking the next difficulty level.
The Basic Understanding of Helldivers 2 Difficulty Level
  • Regardless of the Difficulty[helldivers.wiki.gg] level; your Enemies Health Point stay the same.
  • The Higher the Difficulty Level; the increase in number of your Enemies on the mission become common.
  • The Higher the Difficulty Level; Newer type of Enemies or Elite Enemies become more common.
  • The Higher the Difficulty Level; Rare and Super Sample start appearing.

**Nothing; that mission if it part of an operation mission will just disappear and be unavailable.
Does Failing a Mission affect the War.

How Do You Fail A Mission?
A
Uses up all the Reinforcement (by dying) before you finish the main objective of a mission.
B
Do anything or nothing BUT the main objective of the mission and let the timer run out to be extracted. In other word, don't do the main objective and wait until the timer run out. Your extraction will pick you up afterward.
How NOT to Fail A Mission?
Just complete the Main Objective of the selected Mission. Everything else is optional afterward.
A
Finish the Main Objective of the Mission within the Time Limited (or not) and be extracted off the planet
B
Finish the Main Objective of the Mission within the Time Limited (or not) but fail to be extracted off the planet
C
Finish the Main Objective of the Mission But Die afterward with zero reinforcement
