Shotguns go well with ranged pistols and medium ranged weapons.

Rifles go well with medium shotguns and faster firing pistols.

I recommend using a gun with a hunting / cross bow.

I recommend ranged weapons when using a bomb lance.

Try to use a weapon with more ammo if your primary weapon doesn't have much ammo carry.

Remember that Poison, Incendiary (Fire) and Dum Dum (bleeding) ammo can not shoot through wood like other ammo types.

FIREBOMBS,LIQUID FIRE BOMBS AND HELLFIRE BOMBS - The opposite of choke bombs, they are useful for making sure your enemies can't get revived as these would burn them out so they can not get up again. This can also help bate out their team mates to kill them more effectively. The meaning of liquid in this case means that the fire will work on water as it is oiled based, this if useful for burning dead enemies that died in the water. The meaning of the word hell in this context is to insinuate the fact that hellfire bombs create a larger area of fire, This can be useful to burn several dead enemies at once or to set multiple members of an enemy team on fire so that they rush to heal and stop the burning. Giving you a great opportunity to flank them and kill them.

VITALITY AND REGENERATION SHOTS - Vitality shots help you retrieve health back quickly when you need time on your side. This is good for when you are low on health and are getting flanked. As this could help you avoid being killed. Regeneration shots essentially do the same thing but give you health back slowly. They are more effective for long duration fighting.

EXPLOSIVES - Sticky bombs are something that I strongly recommend as they can take off 75% of the bosses health when stuck to a bounty boss, apart from the assassin as that boss can not have anything attached to it. (I recommend fire for killing the assassin boss). Dynamites vary from regular, big and large the only difference being the width of the area that is in the range of its exposition. Lastly I recommend frag bombs, they are similar to dynamite but they explode much quicker. This is good as it gives enemies less time to get away from the explosion. They are most effective in a interior area.

POISON AND STAMINA SHOTS - poison shots stop you from being poisoned. Stamina shots give you unlimited stamina.

CHOKE BOMBS - I strongly recommend that when playing with 1 other (Duos) or 2 other (Trios) people every player should use choke bombs. As This is the easiest way to stop your team mates from being burned, in addition to having some range to it instead of having to stop them burning by pressing on their body as this can lead to you being killed or your team mate being burned out.

KNIFES&DUSTERS - Their are 3 types: Knuckle knife, Knife and Heavy knife. The knuckle knife is essentially a knuckle knife is a knuckle duster with a knife combined. This means you ca save a slot on your tools. But the down side to that is you can only do light knuckle damage and heavy hitting knife damage. That is why I tend to use a separate knuckle duster and a heavy knife. As the duster can impact with more blunt force. And a heavy knife can hit with more damage and a wider swing, perfect for quickly slicing enemies heads off without having to be super acurate. Although this is great the only draw backs are cost and stamina usage, as you would expect. The regular knife has less stamina drain and a lower cost at the price of having to be more thorough with hits.
