THE DARK AND DEPRESSIVE SIDE OF STARDEW VALLEY
By Fugoss
Stardew Valley is a joyful and peaceful game. Our aim is to develop our farm, do some tasks and live a peaceful farm life, but I will not tell you about that, no matter how joyful and peaceful the game is, it has its dark and sad sides.

Lewis is a Corrupt Mayor!
Lewis is the town's mayor and your grandfather's old friend. When you first arrive, he introduces you to the town and initiates seasonal events. Every evening he collects your products from the chest and sells them. Considering all this, Lewis seems like a pretty good mayor doing his job. However, what we realized in the first year of the game is that the town has many shortcomings.

Minecarts are broken, you fix them.

The bridge on the beach is broken and yes, you are repairing it.

Lewis says the Community Center used to be the town's entertainment venue and he's sorry it's closed. But he doesn't get it repaired. You are repairing it.

The bus is broken, you fix it.

Penny says, “My mother used to drive the bus to Calico Desert... But the bus stopped working a few years ago. Mayor says there's not enough money in the town coffers, or else he'd have it fixed.” The trouble starts here. There is a coordinate in one of the secret notes we find in the game, and when we go to this coordinate, we obtain an item.

This item is a golden statue of Mayor Lewis. If you place this statue in the middle of town, you will receive a letter.
“In the future, I'd appreciate it very much if you refrained from placing my PRIVATE belongings in town for all to see!
I'm very displeased! Take this money and never speak of my 'project' to anyone.”
Lewis, who did not complete the deficiencies of the town and instead had a golden statue of himself made, is now giving us a hush money. From here we understand that Lewis, who has been ruling the town for 20 years, is a corrupt mayor.

And many of you probably know about his secret basement and the dirty things inside, so I won't go into that.
Arrogant Alex
Alex is a very arrogant character who wants to be a famous athlete in the future, which is why many players do not like him. But Alex has a tragic story. In the game, Alex lives with his grandparents, so why not with his parents?

Alex's father is an alcoholic and says he is worthless and can't achieve anything. After his mother dies due to an illness, he starts living with his grandfather and grandmother. The reason why Alex wants to be successful is because his father told him that he was worthless and he wanted to prove him wrong. Also, the reason he treats you bad at first is because he is following what he sees in the way his father treats him.
The Wizard's Daughter
When we reach 10 hearts with the wizard, he tells us this.
“You musn't tell anyone... but I have reason to believe that one of the locals is actually my daughter... I could be mistaken... It's rare, but it does happen.”
We can understand who this girl is from the dialogues of some townspeople. Pierre tells us:
“Does Abigail look anything like me? "Don't tell my wife, but sometimes I wonder if I'm really the father."
Caroline says the following.
“When we first moved to Pelican Town I would take secret walks to the Wizard's Tower. Don't tell Pierre, he has jealousy issues. Abigail was born about a year after we moved to Pelican Town. “I wonder if she'll ever experience life outside the valley?”
And of course there is this dialogue.
“Abby's always had a strange interest in the occult. I'm not sure where she gets it from...”
After completing the Community Center missions, the wizard has a mission on the train track. In this mission, he tells us that he was once married and made a mistake that made his wife angry, this mistake could be Abigail.
Pierre VS Jojamart
There is a rivalry between Pierre and Jojamart and most people support Pierre, but is Jojamart really a bad company? At the beginning of the game, we are working in Jojamart and we see that the environment is quite dirty and someone is dead on the right side.

Morris, the manager of the market, is a very bad person who can easily discount the products and threatens Pierre with this. But when we look at Pierre's dialogues, we cannot say that he is very good either. Their dialogues are as follows:
“Everyone's enjoying the weather instead of shopping... *sigh*”
“Drink after drink... Gus must be making a killing!”
“It's starting to get cold outside... That means more people come into the shop to warm up... hehe.”

From here we understand that Pierre is addicted to profit and jealous.
We can attribute the fact that he does not attend events and makes sales even to his ambition to make money.

And the worst part is this dialogue:
“My dream is to keep opening new stores until I become extremely wealthy. hehehe.
Pierre wants to be like Jojamart, which he opposes.
However, Jojamart provides job opportunities for the townspeople and tries to develop the town even if it is for money. Morris may be a bad person, but he is only the manager and not the owner of the store. So, choosing Jojamart does not seem to be such a bad idea.
My last words.
Stardew Valley contains many depressing and dark things like this, but it is still a wonderful and relaxing game (Did you know that if you become lovers with all the girls, you will trigger a special cutscene) If you have read this far, do not forget to like my guide, have a good game!

"(Did you know that if you become lovers with all the girls, you will trigger a special cutscene)"

Also, the boys have the same. Reqirements (for both female and male):

¤ Get eight hearts with every bachelorette/bachelor (the max for marriage canditates)
¤ Get everyone a bouquet (raises max to ten hearts)
¤ Raise everyone"s friendship by two hearts and see everyone's 10-heart event
¤ Get a Rabbit's Foot in your inventory if you want to give gifts to them for the next 7 days
¤ If girls, get to Haley's and Emily's house, if boys, get to the Stardrop Saloon

Kent is also a potential add, simple soldier/potential war hero suffering from PTSD because of the horrors of war leading to a difficult and stressful time returning home to his wife a change man and Jodi's struggle adapting to those issues. Kent also being a reminder while life in the Valley might be peaceful and chill two large nations have been waging bloody war upon one another.

Krobus and The Dwarf both have pretty messed up stories to tell. Krobus seemingly being the odd ball of an entire species of hostile creatures who partook in a war with the Dwarves for a 1000 years and the Dwarf being potentially the only one of his kind left.

Hell even Stardew Valley Expanded keeps the trend going - Clare, Sophia and Andy all have pretty depressing stories and Victor is just depression incarnate.

Pam and Shane should also be added to this list due to their pretty depressing character stories involving alcoholism.

To be fair - we don't fix the minecarts, the community center, or the bus - the Juminos do it.
