Let´s get started!
  • Your journey is starting inside your lifepod. Before you leave the safe shallows and start exploring the map, make sure to craft a
scanner. This device is used to acquire technology blueprints and data on living organisms. Without the scanner, you can´t
continue the story and you won´t understand the flora and fauna of Subnautica.

To craft it, you will need: battery, titanium

  • Great, now you have a first device to begin your journey with. But what about food and water?
Getting water isn´t actually that complicated. There are these strange looking fish called "Bladderfish". You can find these in the
Safe Shallows (the area where the whole game starts), Kelp Forest, Tree Cove etc. Just catch some, go back to your fabricator in your
lifepod or base and craft filtered water, which gives you +20 hydration.

Tip: I would recommend to craft disinfected water due to it´s higher
hydration (+30 H2O). To produce this, you will firstly need
bleach. To make bleach, you need two key ingredients salt
deposits & coral tube samples. The salt deposits are available
in plenty on the bottom of the seabed, particularly beyond the
safe shallows into the Grassy Plateaus biomes. The second ingredient
can be extracted by just hitting any giant tube corals in Safe Shallows.

  • Food:
Well ... just look around you I guess ... you can catch and cook (almost) every fish you can find in the safe shallows on the fabricator.
But be aware that the cooked fish can expire. For this problem the game also offers a solution: salt deposit. It can be found in Grassy
Plateaus, Kelp Forest, Sparse Reef etc. When found, craft it together with the cooked fish to cured food.

  • Now you have food, drinkable water and a scanner. "Should I start exploring?"
Basically, you could start exploring the map now. But what I did before, was to upgrade my diving suit, especially crafting the
Rebreather. Its purpose is to negate the Oxygen consumption penalty that occurs when diving below 100m, keeping it at a
consistent rate of one unit per second regardless of depth. Its Blueprint is unlocked after crafting a High Capacity O₂ Tank.

  • Travelling:
When it comes to travelling through the biomes, you ALWAYS need to bring these things with you:

-> enough waterbottles (minimum: 5, also depends how far you want to go away from your base and how long you´ll stay away)
-> enough food (amount like bottles)
-> batteries (2-4 batteries should be enough to replace the used ones in your devices)
-> weapons (like a knife, propulsion cannon or, the best weapon, the stasis rifle, to defend yourself from attacking creatures)

If you follow these steps, you will easily survive on the planet (I mean...I hope so...lol)
Hope that I could help you. Good luck out there, bud!
