How to build with Modular Hulls by RIS
By RIS Soldier
This guide will help you build modular ship hulls using the Modular Ship Sets made by myself. This will go step by step to show you how to build and merge hull parts, connect logic and electrics as well some other tips and tricks when building.

Step 1: Download Modular Ship Sets from workshop

So you want to build your ship but do not know where to start? Spending too much time looking at other people's builds or picking it apart for your design? Here in this guide, I will help you build your own ship using my Modular Ship Sets.

------------------------------------------------------------------
First, we download the Modular Ship Set:

[RIS Soldier's Workshop]
Large Modular Ship Set
Small Modular Ship Set
We will be going back and forth between your ship and the Modular Ship Set throughout the entire building process.

I will be showing you how to build using the Small Modular Ship Set.

Step 2: Open Modular Ship Set and Copying Parts
Open up the Modular Ship set, click the SELECTION tool, and select all four edges of the bow.

[NOTE] Some Parts have extended pieces either above, sides, or below the part. Make sure to copy everything.

Copy the part in the selection.
Then click on New Vehicle. It'll ask you if you want to clear the current workspace. Click CONFIRM.

Step 3: Paste, Merge, & SAVE
Once the new workstation is loaded. Click on the selection tool. The selection tool will be offset from the starting block. You will need to move the part over to the starting block. (I recommend placing the part down the center and one block forward of the starting block.)
Click the merge tool and merge the part to the starting block.
[NOTE] Make sure to copy the entire Middle Hull Section. It has control surfaces below the floor that will be used later on for stability. Additionally, the Middle Hull Section is meant to be cut down or extended to your desired length for your ship.
After merging the parts. Save the craft file.
Repeat the steps copying the middle hull, stern, bridge, funnel and mast. SAVE AFTER EVERY PASTE AND MERGE.

We will repeat steps 2-3 for all exterior parts from the Modular Ship Set until you have the shape and size of the ship you want.

Save your ship file.
Step 4: Fitting the Fuel & Stabilizer Puck
Now Copy the Fuel & Stabilizer Puck from the Modular Ship Set.
Reload your craft file and make sure to turn on the Center of Gravity button on the right-hand side of your screen.

[NOTE] Turning on the Center of Gravity will show a purple cube. This is the CoG for your ship. Every ship will have a different spot where the CoG is located.

Open the selection tool and move the F&S Puck to the ship.
Move the Puck until the translation arrows (your X, Y, Z, moving tool) are going THROUGH the CoG cube.

Now Lower the puck until it is flush with the floor.

[NOTE] You will delete the pre-existing blocks on the sides and floors with the F&S Puck. You can also use the painted blue cross on the puck to line up under the CoG.

Once directly under your Center of Gravity and flush with the floor; Paste and merge the F&S Puck to your ship.

Delete the tilt sensor on the F&S Puck. You will connect to a different Tilt Sensor in the Logic step.

Save your ship file.
Step 5: Fitting the engines
Copy an engine section from the Modular Ship Set and reload your ship file.
[NOTE] You may have to shrink, or extend the engine section to fit within the hull.
Connect the pipes (Grey for Exhaust, Blue for Air, Red for Fuel) to the Funnel, and F&S Puck (Color coded blocks on the top or back of the fuel puck)

Save your ship.
Step 6: Logic
After copying everything and merging all the parts we want, we want to set sail. So lets finish the logic.

First, inside the F&S Puck is a Constant On controller.
Connect this to all Pumps and RadiatorsThere is a Tilt Sensor in every mast near the highest point.
Connect this to the Process Variable in the PID that is inside the F&S Puck and the Tilt Roll Slot on the Altair Stabilizer.
Additionally, in each stern there should be the Altair Stabilizer. This micro-controller will be for the control surface fins below the hull.
For the Altair Stabilizer:
Place a Linear Speed Sensor in the furthest back wall of the ship facing forward.
Connect the speed sensor to the slot titled SPEED.
Connect the control surface fins to both the Right and Left slots (facing forward to the bow).
Now we connect the helm to everything.
The setting on the helm should be already set so connect "A/D" to the rudders.
W/S to the Engine and Electric motors.
Then connect the "UP/DOWN" (Arrow keys) to the clutch
Next connect the Hotkey 1 to the Ignition on the engine
Connect Hotkey 2 to the reverse gear in the stern
Lastly connect all electrical together and you should be set.
Save your ship file
Step 7: Set Sail!
Now you're all set. Spawn your ship in and give it a try!

[Controls]
Hotkey 1 = Ignition
Hotkey 2 = Reverse
W/S = Throttle
UP/DOWN = Clutch (Arrow keys)

Obviously i didnt go over puting in lights, decor or anything else, but this guide was to get you to a working ship. Now you should be able to fill in and style your ship the way you want.
