Background:
"Green Rain" is a new event in Stardew Valley, released in 1.6[stardewvalleywiki.com] that occurs when the entire valley becomes covered in a green later. This event can be predicted by checking the weather the day before, the message follows "Um...There appears to be some kind of...anomalous reading...I....don't know what this means...". This event can only happen in the Summer While this event occurs a green tint will be displayed on the player's screen throughout the day. When this event is triggered new types of foliage will be scattered all across the valley, as well as most trees having accumulating moss on them. We are introduced to a new look for most trees and a new type of tree. This is the new environmental event in the summer mentioned in the 1.6 notes.

Here is an image of what the TV looks like the day before the event:
Fiddlehead Fern Trees:
As I like to call them: "Fiddlehead Trees" are similar to how a Mushroom Tree works, we are greeted with a tree that resembles a Fiddlehead Fern. Like Mushroom Trees these trees when chopped down drop the precious Fiddlehead Fern. The trees are scattered and sporadic with no apparent pattern of growth. The Stardew Valley Wiki (and comments) state these trees (referred to as Type 3 trees) can be tapped for fiddlehead ferns.

Type three tree (Fiddlehead Trees):

Here are some other trees....Mutated Trees

Type one tree:

Type two tree:

Both trees drop wood, sap, and seeds when chopped, sometimes moss if it has grown on it.
Why Should I Care?
During the event most townspeople will shelter in the Tavern, providing a good opportunity to increase friendships if that's what your main focus in the game is. While this event seems like a little fun and cool observing experience there is a lot to do in this one-day event. Fiddlehead ferns are important in Stardew. With a base selling price of about 90g - 180g (Quality varies), 202g when turned into juice, and 230g when pickled.

While selling it is an option the other uses of Fiddlehead Ferns are as follows:
-Cooking
-Tailoring Clothes
-Community Center Bundles (IMPORTANT FOR THE CHEF BUNDLE)

From my personal findings, each tree drops about 6 Fiddlehead Ferns

Another big part of this event is the rate of Moss growth. When the event is triggered moss grows everywhere. With the new foliage using a sword, or scythe will cause some foliage to drop moss and/or fiber, random seeds, or random flower seeds. You can sell the moss for a base selling price of about 5g per moss. You can also stock up for the Statue Of Blessings.

While selling it is an option the other uses of Moss are as follows:
-Cooking
-Crafting
-Buying Broccoli Seeds (from a special furry friend)

In one day I lazily gathered 100+ moss

Introduced with moss and also available to find during this event is a new type of seed. This seed is called a mossy seed and is used to plant more mossy trees. It's best to plant it next to other trees.

The Living Hat:
Currently, I don't think the chance of obtaining the Living Hat increased during the event. However theoretically if the chance of getting it is 0.001% from a bush and this event spawns bushes everywhere, it might be more probable. Still pretty freaking rare though.
Details:
Clearly, the main focus of the event is fiddlehead ferns and moss. However, there are other small details that can be discovered while playing.

Broken TV:
While attempting to check the weather the TV will turn to green static and have an audible sound playing, a message pops up only reading "......"

Upon further inspection, it isn't only the farmers' TV that is affected. Here, Evelyn's TV also has this green static:

Demetrius:
Fear of the event even got to the best scientists of Stardew. We can see Demetrius in a hazmat suit during the event. However only in year one!!!

(The photo is not mine credits go to: https://www.thegamer.com/stardew-valley-types-weather-effects/ )

The dialogue reads "Don't mind me, (Farmers name). I'm just collecting some samples. This may be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!"

Special Dialogue:
With this event we get more dialogue, I encourage you to talk to everyone and see their thoughts, especially in the second year. Dialogue is different depending on the year, for example, in year one of the event, everyone is scared, but by year two everyone knows what it is and is okay with it. Here are some of my favorites from year two!

Demetrius accepting the rain:

Krobus not knowing what's going on:

By far my favorite of the three: Vincent being Vincent:

Text of images in case it is not legible:

Demetrius:
"The rain appears to be harmless, so I'm taking less precaution this year."

Krobus:
"The flow of water has been unusually strong today...what's going on up there?"

Vincent:
"Vincent is covered in moss"
Overview:
Overall, this is a cute new event to Stardew, I enjoyed it and hope to see it again the next time summer rolls around for me. Here is what I went over:

-When the event happens: Summer
-What is the main focus: Fiddlehead Fern & Moss
-Is it harmful: No
-What should I do on this day: Forage! Forage! Forage!
-Are there small details: Yes! Explore and find the ones for yourself

TIP:
Most villagers will stay inside for most of the day on this event!!!!

Authors notes:

I can confirm Demetrius wearing a Hazard Suit while standing in his usual Spot beneath Robin's and His House. I can provide you with a screenshot, but you will also find one on Google easily! What's also interesting is that Linus and the Wizard seem to be the only npc's “knowing” about this event, as they will shortly explain what's going on when talked to! :stardrop:

The "Fiddlehead Fern Tree" is tappable and you can get fiddlehead ferns through the tapper. Attempted to tap the other tree in case you can tap moss, doesn't work.
