Semi Automatic Deep Sea Mobile Oil Rig

Opis
A Mobile Oil Drilling and Refining platform. This is my attempt to make a fully automatic deep sea oil drilling and refinery. Only a few button presses to get oil, diesel and jet fuel. Also doubles as a mobile refuel and recharge station

Cost : $590533

Weight:145000+

Capacity: 2,000,000 litres

Oil Processing Speed : Over 160L/s (limited by oil pump speed 100 - 150L/s)

I spent way too long making this. I'm not the best at making my creations look good. I love to make functional creations. I am continually updating it to try get it to as fully automated as possible. I hope i have worked out all the kinks but if there is any unexpected problems that you face please let me know so that i can fix it.

It is capable of travelling (or being towed) and deploying anywhere in the ocean and automatically placing down pipes and anchoring a well head on the ocean floor up to 250+ meters with extreme precision. (it is possible to drill deeper but you would need to remove the empty rods and bring some new ones by air using the drone)

In future i will try to make it fully reusable so you can just keep sending it around to all the oil deposits without porting

It can process oil with its dual 8x Electric Furnaces at over 160L/s (80L/s for jet fuel and 80L/s for diesel)after a short ramp up time however its limited purely by how fast the oil can be extracted usually around 100-150L/s oil

Ill break down how to use the Oil Rig from start to deployment to processing and when you want to return it to the dock (it drains oil deposits like no tomorrow)

1. Spawning and prep
2. Getting it to location and Position Hold
3. Deploying the Rig
4. Drilling, Oil and Refining
5. Packing it up and returning to port

The Breakdown

1. Spawning and prep:

Once spawned you need to use the drone to move the rods into place. This is probably the trickiest thing you will need to do. Use the camera on the drone to make it easier.

Once connected you can land back on the helipad connectors while the ropes are still connected and YOU DON'T HAVE TO DETACH THE ROPES. Extend the rope lengths to 30 meters (little screen on the right side of the drone) and you will have no problem. This makes it significantly easier if you will need to replace with more rods

Update incoming:
I am currently installing an fully automated magazine reloading system which means it will be as simple as pressing a button to refresh the rods. it will make it FAR EASIER to load rods at the start and reload more rods to get to deep oil locations as well as make it able to reach in excess of 500 meters down (not that there is any oil wells of that depth but hey its nice to have)

-----------------------------------------

2. Getting it to location and Position Hold

There are plenty of tow points around the creation to tow it to the location you intend to. It is extremely heavy and requires an extremely powerful creation to move it at any reasonable speed.

The creation itself has very powerful motors you can use to move it on its own if you prefer at a speed of 8-10 m/s

The Autopilot will guide you to the location entered (it has no collision avoidance so be careful) and then position hold will take over at the last 50 meters and guide you over the target location.

OPTIONAL - Pos Hold Bearing if you want the creation to face a specific direction for some reason (leave it at 0 if you dont care and it will hold a northerly facing

-----------------------------------------

3. Deploying the Rig

Ensure you are mostly stable and holding position then push the Well Anchor button -> turn the Unlock Rig Start -> hit the button Deploy Oil Rig.

VERY IMPORTANT! -->> If the depth is 250m+ you should expect to need more rods. <<--

THE FOLLOWING IS ONLY IF YOU NEED MORE RODS (Skip to 4. Drilling, Oil and Refining if you don't need)

When the last rod has been connected -> Turn the Unlock Rig Start - > Turn off Deploy Oil Rig

OR

When the last rod has been passed to the drill -> Turn the Unlock Rig Start - > Turn off Deploy Oil Rig - > Pause Drilling

Take care in the following steps to not damage anything. Take it slow.
(save game is a good idea)

Hover the drone 35 meters above the helipad and use the winch and harness system to go down and disable the magnets for the rod magazine. Dump it somewhere. Far away preferably.

Copy the rod system from the creation and spawn the rods as a new creation and fly it over to the oil rig and connect it. Don't forget to turn the magazine holder magnets back on before connecting a new rod magazine. You can use the position hold and rescue winches and harnesses hold the drone and rods in place.

Don't rely on the automatic position hold switching from the drone to stop you safely. it can swing the rods so violently that it knocks yourself out of the air or smacks the oil rig into oblivion.

4. Drilling, Oil and Refining

SAVE YOUR GAME.

Once the well is anchored the Start Drilling button will unlock. press it. (slurry will turn on automatically).

Activate the refineries by turning the keys to both.

Once that first rod is connected to the 2nd it should be all good from there on. Turn the pump jack on to 0.1 until you hit oil. Once you do hit the Pause Drilling button.

You can now push the pump jack all the way to max and go about your business, war, both or just watch and wait as the tanks fill up (the oil well always runs out before tanks are full in my testing)

5. Packing it up and returning to port

SAVE YOUR GAME.

Easiest way is to just fly the drone attached to it to port and return to workbench will return the oil rig. This has failed to work for me once so if it does use the following.

IF FIRST OPTION FAILS

Turn the Unlock Rig Start - > Turn off Deploy Oil Rig - > Turn off Start Drilling Phase (Well Is Anchored) -> Turn off Stop Drilling (Oil Extraction Phase)

Move the drill out of the way (set it to 0.75)

Unlock the Well Anchor and turn it off

Set Clamp Sliders next to it to -1

Wait for the drill depth to reach 0 and you will see the Indicator light for the well anchor turn off

Then Hit Tighten the Winches and it will raise everything

Your good to head back and admire your giant pipe tower.

You can set the slider back to 0 and turn off tighten winches once its fully retracted and the well head is connected to the oil rig

Manned Drone:

The main purpose of the drone is to connect the rods and to replace the rods if your going for a very deep well. Its also useful to get to and from the oil rig. You can also use it for most rescue missions and smaller transport missions.

The key binds are what i think most people would consider inverted. where W/S is for the collective and A/D are yaw instead of up/down and left/right respectively. If you prefer it the other way around just track the lines from the seat controls and change them around to suit you.

There will be no guide on how to use the drone. I hope it is intuitive and through experience and practice you can get used to how it functions.

LOTS MORE TO BE ADDED/CHANGED

Things from other creators on this creation:
Sharkgod - i am to lazy to play this game

needs far more recognition, this is easily one of the best creations on the workshop! very easy to use, my only gripe being where the anchor wellhead button is. other that that, i use this ALL the time.

very good, subed liked and favorited.

it isn't striking oil...
