Activating
  • Lights can be toggled with the "L" key
  • Smoke emitters can be toggled with the ";" key
See your keybindings for specific keys.
Changing colors
You can change the color of a light by using the build mode material and applying the color to the light cover (not the base). Lights will only apply / sample colors and the material is unaffected.

You can change the color of smoke by changing the color of the nozzle of the smoke emitter.
Performance
The game does it's best to optimize lights and smoke when you deploy a vessel or structure. Just keep in mind that the more lights and smoke you add the more performance (CPU/GPU) will be required. Turning them off when not in use may be helpful.
Usage notes
Lights behave differently in weather and underwater. The scale of the light will affect the appearance of the lighting.

Smoke is neat for 2 main things
  • Creating smoke trails behind planes
  • Making it look like a boat has a smoke stack (paint the smoke nozzle grey or black)

Controls will be wired to whatever vessel they are attached to when building. If you put lights on a crane, you can control them while operating the crane.
