By itev4n7
Right now no official support for VR, but you still can experience racing in VR only in offline races

Cons of solution:
  • You don't have actual VR UI to interact with game
  • You don't have any UI during the race using VR headset (maximum immersion, you only have some info on your car wheel dash)
NOTE: As alternative you can use Crew Chief voice commands
  • Game crashing without any error if you join into online race (it downloading around 54% and then crash)
  • Game crashing without any error if you setup offline race with quali -> race or practice-> quali -> race (it works fine if you create 1 stage event e.g a race/quali/practice and then join it once)
  • Just after finish, be sure to press the “ESC” button to prevent the game from crashing (with new patch this unfortunately won't help)

Anyway game in early access so just waiting of full implementation of VR
Steps for VR setup:
  1. Make first start of the game to set following settings:
    • You MUST set FSAA to "None", and set "Post Effects" to medium
    • I recommend using medium-low settings (but you can adjust them depending on your PC)
    • Also depending on your PC, you may want to set visible vehicles (I steek with 10), and an important option here is "Lock Horizon", set it to a low or higher value
    • Apply changes and close game
  2. Go to properties of the game
  3. Put "+VR" into LAUNCH OPTIONS

  4. Replace in the game root folder (path "~SteamsteamappscommonLe Mans Ultimate") "openvr_api.dll" file (You can download it here[drive.google.com])
    NOTE: it's just a copy of rf2 "openvr_api.dll" file

  5. Then from root game folder follow this path - "UserDataplayer" (if there is no "player" folder, make sure you ran the game at least 1 time)

  6. Open the "direct input.json" file
  7. Add button for re-centering your camera:
    "VR : Re-Center head position":{ "device":"<your device name>", "id": <your button id> }
it MUST be inside the "Input" brackets e.g
    ... "Input":{ "Brake":{ "device":"P1000-86B3C407DB349225", "id":8 }, ... "VR : Re-Center head position":{ "device":"Logitech G HUB G920 Driving Force Racing Wheel USB-842476EF773AB73C", "id":40 } }, "Type":"Direct Input" }
To find desired button id for re-center VR camera for your setup:
    • Go to game setting and set "Traction Control Up" to button that you will you use for re-centering VR camera
    • Save settings and close game
    • In "direct input.json" file, grab id from "Traction Control Up" and put it into "VR : Re-Center head position" button id
    • Make sure to copy correct divice name from "Traction Control Up"
    • Change "Traction Control Up" in game setting to another button

NOTE: in my case I'm using G920, so for centering camera I use button id 40 (RSB button on the wheel)

  8. Additionally if you have lack of performance you can set "Max headlights" to 10 in "Settings.json" file to have a bit more performance during the race (open file in "~\Le Mans Ultimate\UserData\player" then press CTRL + F to find "Max headlights")

  9. Highly recommend to use OpenXR and OpenComposite tools to run a game and have a bit more performance overall (If you firstly see such tools, just google it, there are a lot of information how to setup it)
  10. Finally run the game, you still need a monitor to setup race and so on, when the race map is downloaded you will see the VR is working, click on "START DRIVING" and you good to go
Crew Chief voice commands setup:
I found quite well alternative to race with no UI, using Crew Chief beta version with voice recognition commands, you can ask your position, penalties, pits, time ahead/behind, fuel status and soo on.

Steps:
  1. if you already have CrewChief installed you need to uninstall it
  2. Install beta version of CrewChief (You can download it here[thecrewchief.org])
  3. Open CrewChief and in Game list select "Le Mans Ultimate"
  4. Download sound pack, driver names and personalisations (Then you can change your name clicking on "My name" button)
  5. Next activate voice recognition mode (select that fits you the most, in my case is "Always on")
  6. Then click on "Add/Remove Actions" button
  7. And add commands that you want to use, then click on "Save profile settings"
    NOTE:
    I recommend to use these:
    • Do I have a penalty
    • Do I have to pit
    • How long's left
    • How's my fuel
    • What's my position
    • What's the gap ahead/behind
    • What's the time (if you want to know your system time)
  8. After restart of CrewChief you will see added commands in the list
  9. And finally click on "Start Crew Chief" button, you should hear "radio check"
NOTE: you can check if recognition works, just ask "What's the time" (if you added this command)
  10. Now you can say added commands and get needed information during the race

If you use quest 2 or 3 try use ASW. This help to stabilize FPS.

Running the game with VD. Is it still advantageous to to use openXR and openComposite Tools as of today? For example setting fov etc.
