By YungPro
This guide shows some information on how to make controllers work correctly for GTFO (this might be a work in progress and could be missing some tips, however this info took me a long time to figure out and turned out to be super helpful)

2 Step process (images added to help) + other solutions to try
1. Go to steam library, right click GTFO and select properties

2. Go to the controller tab, and make sure that steam input controllers are disabled from the drop down bar

3. Relaunch your game, maybe even steam, or maybe even a PC restart (to be sure), and then you should notice a MASSIVE improve in controller use on GTFO, I haven't tested button remapping yet but this should go a long way into make the game playable for you.

Im US region, always interested in team mates, so feel free to send me a friend request if you want to team up, additionally it would be fun to get a like/thumbs up on this guide if you found it helpful. PS if this doesn't fix your issue, i'd be willing to help you further with some more trouble shooting ideas I have. This is my first guide, so im unfamiliar if the images will be accessible or not, if not then refer to the text (words) rather than images, its all there.

***3/06/2024 update: So its possible there might be a few more steps to make this happen depending on your controller type, its quite the frustrating process, in addition to disabled steam controller input, also turn off your monitor's/display's HDR setting, found in your display windows settings, after switching that off, restart your pc, then try controller again.

***3/11/2024 update: Another solution to try if you have controller working in game but now are experiencing "stuttering", if your useing a wireless controller then minimize the game, turn off Bluetooth function, then re-enabled it (make sure your controller is connected since you recently just disabled bluetooth) re-open the game window and the stuttering should be gone. For wired controllers, you might have to unplug and re-plug back in your controller to notice a controller function increase in game. (for me this has been a very recent and helpful fix method)

***3/11/2024 part two, try switching your monitor's Hrtz settings, i think its called, commonly 60, 120, 140 and 160 are the Hrtz increments you might see for montiors. Go into your window's setting for display, then advanced display and try changing your hrtz to a different setting if possible, like 60 to 120 or 120 to 60, and see if a controller usage difference occurs, (disregard this solution attempt if you don't have these hrtz options)

I can consider providing more photos for completing these steps if desired.

Using an Xbox One controller and the joystick usage is useless. Left stick will move in the basic up, down, left, right directions, but anything in between those gets stuck and character stops moving. Unfortunately unplayable with a controller for me until this is fixed
