What Delay?
The delay mentioned is from the battle tally screen. This should be instantaneous but it is sometimes not. The delay in question was a range of 5-20 seconds after every battle. That was crippling my progress and I wondered why.

Well, it wound up being my FPS settings.. I cap at 60 due to vertigo in some games. This was not good for how this game functions in battle screens, so I changed it.
TLDR
Set maximum frames to 120 in your video card settings for either game (ffx.exe or ffx-2.exe) and turn on vsync in the game settings. Changing one of the .exe files in the Nvidia settings should change both games to the same settings. The example below shows FF X-2 but the process is the same for either game.

Small Guide
This process is for Nvidia cards.

Start by getting into the Nvidia control panel:

1: Press Manage 3D settings
2: Press Program Settings
3: Press on the program drop-down
4: Select the program (ffx-2.exe or ffx.exe)

5: Scroll down until you see Max Frame Rate and change it to 120 FPS
6: Press Apply once the FPS is changed

This should apply the FPS change to both ffx-2.exe & ffx.exe

Next, start up the game. Once you are at the start screen, press ESC on the keyboard and select system setting then Video and this screen will pop up:

7: Go to Vsync and turn the option to On

8: Press OK

From here you should try a battle. Following the process should eliminate the 5-15 second delay from the end of battle.

Hopefully this helped someone

This may be a placebo effect but this tip worked for a while with FF-X then the delay after each fight went back up. However, repeating this procedure seemed to fix it again.

Shrug.....

I didn't realize this was an issue for FF X so thank you for bringing it up. Altered the guide and title to reflect the new information.
Thanks a lot for the guide - it really makes the game feel much more smoother and more fun without the delays.

BTW this also seems to work in the first game - would it be possible to upgrade the guide's name and content to reflect this?
