Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is a third-person action RPG featuring 43 Steam achievements.

Overview:
  • There's no achievement for completing the game on a specific difficulty.
  • All achievements can be obtained in one full and one partial playthrough.
  • Only 'Teacher's Pet', 'Second Death', and the two ending achievements are missable.
  • None of the collectibles is missable, but multiple collectibles require backtracking.
  • To minimize backtracking, complete all haunting cases before focusing on the collectibles.
  • Please refer to the 'Endings' section for a strategy to obtain all achievements efficiently.

The achievement Catch 'Em All for finding all 88 equipments is bugged and might remain locked if you own the Wanderer Set DLC. If this happens to you, close the game and disable the DLC (right-click on the game in your library → Properties → DLC), then restart the game and make a save. Now, close the game again, enable the DLC, and load the save to unlock the achievement.

The game features five endings (two good and three bad endings). However, the developers only implemented achievements for the good endings. To successfully bring Antea back to life, you must promise your partner to resurrect her during your second oath (story event, the first oath does not influence the ending). Additionally, you must bring closure to at least 13 haunting cases by sacrificing the living settlers. If you do not sacrifice enough living settlers, the ritual at the end of the game might fail and you might unlock a bad ending. To ensure Antea's ascent, promise your partner to let her ascend, and spare the living settlers and ascend or banish the ghosts.



Strategy for reaching both good endings and obtaining all achievements along the way:
  • Choose 'Resurrection' when swearing your first oath to Antea.
  • Bring closure to the first five story-related haunting cases, and:

    • banish Benedict Stoughton in The Trappers (The Dark Woods),
    • banish Thomas Hake in The Cook (The Dark Woods),
    • spare Thickskin in The Newsmith Sisters (The Dark Woods), and
    • spare Captain Pennington in The Leaders (Mount Pleasant).

  • Don't bring closure to any additional haunting case (including The Heaytons).
  • Complete the main quests on Mount Pleasant (Fort Jericho) before heading to The Harrows.
  • Make a manual save before reaffirming your oath.

For 'Death is a journey', load the save and choose 'Resurrection', then complete all 18 remaining haunting cases while always sacrificing one of the living settlers, except Hugh Batcheler in The Schoolteacher (see section 'Teacher's Pet'). If you make a second manual save before crossing the point of no return on Siridean's Island (the game will explicitly warn you), you can get all remaining achievements from this second save.

For 'Farewell my love', load the first manual save and choose 'Ascend', then complete the game again. But this time, bring only closure to the two remaining story-related haunting cases, and:
  • banish Alexander Wattson in The Cobbler (The Harrows), and
  • spare Fairefax Haskell in The Haskells (The Harrows).
Combat

Self-explanatory. This achievement can be easily done at (endless) ritual sites or in endless Void breaches. The first ritual site is in the valley south-west of the Hunters' camp in The Dark Woods.



Float like a Butterfly
Defeat 8 enemies in a single encounter without being hit



Self-explanatory. This achievement can be easily done at (endless) ritual sites or in endless Void breaches. The first ritual site is in the valley south-west of the Hunters' camp in The Dark Woods.



Counterattack
Defeat 3 enemies with a post parry attack in a single encounter



This achievement requires parries (not blocks) as Red. A parry triggers an animation and stuns the enemy. The post parry attack (light attacks are recommended) must kill the enemy. Defeating three enemies with such attacks can be easily done in encounters with normal specters.



Right on Target
Defeat 5 enemies with a weakspot hit (Rifle) in a single encounter



This achievement can be obtained after retrieving your first rifle from Kate in the Hunters' Camp during the main quest The Beast. It's highly recommended to do this achievement at nest fights with possessed wolves, e.g., at the ritual site south-west of the Broken Bridge shelter in The Mire Marshes. As Red, kill five wolves with headshots (weakspot) to unlock the achievement.



Outburst
Defeat 3 enemies with a single Outburst



Antea's Outburst skill will be available upon resting at the Mossy Watchtower shelter (story event). Kill three enemies (can be spheres) at once to unlock the achievement.



Until a cure is found
Freeze 5 enemies in a single encounter



Antea's Ensnare skill will be available upon resting at any shelter after completing the main quest The Inkwell (The Harrows) or A Flame In The Dark (Fort Jericho on Mount Pleasant). Use the skill on five enemies in one encounter to unlock the achievement.



Soulmates
Defeat 50 enemies while Fusion is active



Antea's Fusion skill will be available upon resting at any shelter after completing the main quest The Inkwell (The Harrows) or A Flame In The Dark (Fort Jericho on Mount Pleasant). As Antea, damage enemies to charge the Fusion gauge, and kill 50 enemies to unlock the achievement.
Miscellaneous
Demolition Man
Destroy 300 destructibles



Keep an eye out for wooden barrels, fences, and boxes. Destroy 300 to unlock the achievement.



Round Figure
Collect 10 000 Pieces of Eight



Attain 10,000 Pieces of Eight (currency in New Eden) at once in your inventory. You can simply make a save towards the end of the game, then approach any merchant, and sell all your loot. The achievement will unlock a few seconds after you end the conversation with the merchant.

If you own more than 10,000 Pieces of Eight, but the achievement doesn't unlock: make a save, approach any merchant, buy anything to get below 10,000 Pieces of Eight, then sell anything to reach 10,000 Pieces of Eight again.



The Good Hunter
Find 50 Soul Grabbers in New Eden



Shoot 50 Soul Grabbers with your rifle (available after retrieving your first rifle from Kate in the Hunters' Camp during the main quest The Beast). There are 128 Soul Grabbers in New Eden:





A Farmer's Life
Complete the same Ritual site 10 times (intensity level 10)



Reach intensity level 11 at any replayable endless ritual site, e.g., at the ritual site south-west of Fort Jericho on Mount Pleasant (can be a nest, an elite, or a scourge):

Equipments can be upgraded at shelters:



Rank 7 (Relic) is the highest rank. Since the upgrades require a significant amount of resources, it's highly recommended to only upgrade equipments of rank 5 (there's at least one equipment of rank 5 in each category). The required resources can be found in the open world, purchased from merchants, e.g., Seeker on Siridean's Island, or obtained as rewards by completing ritual sites.



Second Death
Defeat the Specter of a banished ghost in the Void



This achievement can be missed if you never banish a ghost in the haunting cases. If you banish a ghost, they can appear as a miniboss in the Void breaches (available after completing the main quest The Swamp Witch). Void breaches are marked on the map and can be replayed.



Hidden Door
Unlock the secret passage in Bligh Manor



The Bligh Estate is in the north-west of Mount Pleasant. Investigating the manor is part of the haunting case The Rumballs. Inside the manor, find the note Abbie's Note On Paintings upstairs:



Then, tilt the paintings in this order:
  1. Bedroom (upstairs, room with secret passage)
  2. Office (upstairs, room with broken floor)
  3. Guest Room (upstairs, room with chest)

In each locked chest, cursed chest, and lost chest is one equipment. Please refer to the following sections for more details.

Note that cursed chests cannot be opened from the beginning. You need to interact with any cursed chest to trigger the activity Spirit Unbounding, which must be completed to learn the Unbounding ritual that can break the curse. Additionally, you need three wooden figurines for each ritual. Since they are usually hidden close to the chests and do not require much searching, they are not listed in this guide. However, the cursed chest The Sentry is an exception, as the wooden figurines for this chest are buried at treasure hunt locations (listed in this guide).
