TEKKEN 8 Ranking System: Explanation
Ranking is a skill system first seen in TEKKEN 5 and appearing in every subsequent game since. Ranks are obtained after winning a certain number of matches, then winning a "Promotion Match". By playing Offline matches (i.e. in Arcade Quest), the player can be promoted while battling computer opponents, whereas by playing in Online Matches, the player's online rank can be promoted by facing other players. The offline and online ranks are not combined and are separated from each other.
Whether it be offline or online, winning matches consecutively is the most efficient way for a player to be promoted. Matches against opponents of a similar or the same rank reward the player higher rank points. Consecutive losses, however, will cause the player to be at risk of demotion. Winning "Demotion Matches" will allow the player to maintain their current ranking, and losing a Demotion Match causes the player's rank to be lowered to the previous ranking. The amount of wins and losses to reach a promotion or demotion match is based on a points system that is visible to the player after each win/loss.
The Rank Bar tells players how close they are to promotion or demotion, growing or shrinking depending on how many battles the player wins or loses in Arcade Quest and Online Rank Mode.
The Japanese names for the ranks in TEKKEN 8 have multiple themes, some of which can still be identified in the artwork behind the rank names.
In the Middle-Eastern versions of the game, the word god in the golden ranks is replaced with the word "Lord".
Ranked Matches in TEKKEN 8 are now done in a best-of-three format as infinite rematches are removed from the game. TEKKEN 8 reduced the number of ranks to 30, 7 less ranks compared to TEKKEN 7. The rank progression bar is different from TEKKEN 7 as it now displays the total accumulated points of a character's rank, displays multiple upcoming ranks as opposed to only one, and it also shows the progression of your friends. The naming of the ranks in TEKKEN 8 remains the same with a few changes in the ranks themselves.
