WolfQuest Fitness Challenge - The Ultimate Wolf Pack Survival Challenge!
By Sapphirejas

Note: I will update this challenge when The Saga releases!

This is a fun WolfQuest challenge based on the biology of organisms (living things). In this case, it’s based on wolves (in the game).

Fitness in biology is defined as the animal’s ability to survive, find food, find a mate, have offspring (babies) and have as many of their offspring survive as possible. Therefore, pass on as many genes as possible.

In this challenge, your wolves will earn Fitness currency (above). You need to record them in a google spreadsheet document or a Microsoft excel file. You also need to record the wolf’s coat colour gene (gray or black), wolf stats (speed, stamina, strength and health ) as 1, 2, 3 and 4 (-3, -2, -1, 0) and 5, 6, 7 (1, 2 and 3). Also you need to record whether a wolf is a runt or a normal wolf. And record the wolf pair. (Gray x gray, gray x black or black x black. Also, this challenge uses random number generators to calculate the fate of wolf pups (subordinate wolves) (stay in pack, disperse, or death) after reaching the Endless Summer, because the game development is in a weird period where we have the persistent packs, but not wolves staying around in your own pack (The Saga). So this is used as a work-around for it. Also, grow all the subordinate wolves in the family snapshot, but delete them after getting screenshots to avoid clutter and confusion. And these subordinate wolves will not physically appear in your game, but you can use your imagination that they are in your pack, helping your pups thrive and hunting with you. These screenshots can be used for social media such as Facebook and Discord. The resources are provided in the section below.

Your goal is for your wolf to survive to age 8 and have as many pups survive as possible. And also have the highest Fitness Points in all the wolves, so their legacy shines brighter than any stars!

Here are the resources for recording all the wolves in your packs, and a link to the random number generator I used for calculating the fates of the subordinate wolves (before The Saga releases)

Rules

Rules

  • Play on accurate (this is to realistically represent the struggle of the survival of a wolf!) However, if you are really afraid, challenging is doable!
  • The wolf must be an Ironwolf!
  • Mate permadeath must be on!
  • You may play on any game map (Amethyst Mountain, Slough Creek , Modern Lost River, or Hellroaring Mountain) except for the Classic Lost River (due to such a small map size and the inability to have pups in that map). You also may move any time! (Move to a new zone when you don't have pups, except for Modern Lost River to other maps, or start a new game on a different map, except for Classic Tower Fall after completing the full set of quests on the previous map.)
  • Your pack name must be creative! (Dancing Fireflies, Dawn Sky, Blue Moon etc.)
  • If the whole litter dies, redo the litter, like a storybook, this shouldn’t happen, so pretend it didn’t happen, and go back in time to winter. You also lose 5 fitness points as a punishment for failing. (I know this is not realistic that all litters have at least 1 pup surviving, but there is nothing I can do about it until The Saga comes out) /Also, keep a backup of your save from the "mark territory" quest for each wolf year, so that if you lose an entire litter, you can still keep your pups, territory, and wolves from the "known wolves" from that point of time. Though you'll have to raise your pups from around 4 pounds again. This is just a temporary solution until the Saga comes out :)
  • If your wolf dies when raising pups, it is over for that wolf and the wolf is unable to gain any more fitness points. Play as one of the pups and start over!
  • If your wolf dies without pups, it is over for that wolf! They are unable to gain any more fitness. If they have littermates (not from different litter), play as one of them! Or else, create a new unrelated wolf and start the legacy over! This is considered a game over for the previous legacy! The new wolf must have a different pack name. Also, the wolf starts with -5 points due to failing to establish the pack legacy.
Prey

There are five prey levels.

  • The first level is the very easy level. This is for just the hare. Gain 0.10 fitness point for each caught.
  • The second level is the easy level. This is for the elk/deer/pronghorn newborn calves and fawns Gain 0.25 fitness point.
  • The second level is moderate level. This is for cow elk, cow elk/mule deer calf/fawns, and mule deer, Gain 0.5 points
  • The third level is the hard level. This is for beavers (all maps except for Hellroaring Mountain), spike elk, pronghorn does (that are protecting their fawns, pronghorn fawns, and moose calves). Gain 1.5 points.
  • The fourth level is the very hard level. This is for pronghorn does (that aren't protecting their fawns) and buck mule deer. Gain 2 points.

Note: I didn’t include moose and bison, due to them being almost impossible to hunt in single player accurate mode, at least until The Saga comes out. 😊
Competitors

There are five competitor levels

  • The first level is the super easy level. This is just for red foxes. If you chase one away from a carcass, you get 0.10 fitness points.
  • The second level is the easy level. This is for coyotes (chasing away from carcasses) and feral dogs (if you are in Lost River and if you are chasing away from a carcass). You gain 0.5 fitness points for chasing them away.
  • The third level is the moderate level. This is for coyotes and feral dogs (chasing away from pups) .You gain 1.5 fitness points. Note that you only gain the points if none of the pups are killed from the attacks.
  • The fourth level is the hard level. This is reserved for rival wolves (chasing away from pups and battles for territory), cougars (chasing away from pups) and golden eagles. You earn 2 fitness points for this. Note that you only gain the points if none of your pups are killed from the attacks.
  • The fifth level is the very hard level. This is reserved for grizzly bears (both chasing away from carcasses and pups), cougars (chasing from carcasses), and wolverines (Hellroaring Mountain only, chasing away from carcasses). Gain 3 points. Note that you only gain the points if none of your pups are killed from the attacks.
Mate Choice

Choosing the best mate (the mate with the highest diversity) is crucial for gaining as many fitness points as possible. Also, genetic pairings are also important. You would want to avoid Black X Black pairings, because it would result in a few pups being born (due to some dying as stillborns as KK wolves), even though they are the most disease resistant. Gray and Gray pairs are also not ideal, because the pups are likely to be sick. The pairing you want to go for are Gray and Black pairing pairings, due to a high number of pups and pups being more resistant to disease.

The fitness points are as follows: 0 star wolf pairings give you no points, 1 star wolf pairings give you 0.5 point, 2 star wolf pairings give you 1 point, 3 star wolf pairings give you 2 points, and 4 star wolf pairings give you 3 points!

In addition, if you are in a Gray and Black pairing, you gain an extra 1 point ( 4 points if a 4 star pairing).
Pup Litters

When playing as an Ironwolf, your goal is to have pups as quickly as possible, and raise them until the end of the final quest (in the game before the Saga). That way, if your ironwolf dies, you can play as one of the surviving pups and carry on the legacy of your wolf pack. If you fail to do that, when your wolf dies, you would have to play as an unrelated wolf, and start at -5 points due to not establishing a wolf pack legacy. So you want to avoid that at all cost!

When you have pups, each pup born will grant you 2 fitness points. And when you complete the Slough Creek episode, each pup surviving to the end will also grant you an additional 3 fitness points. If you lose the whole litter, you lose 5 fitness points, and you have to start over from winter, because “it shouldn't happen”. NOTE: For Pre Saga, ALWAYS keep a backup of your save from the "Mark Territory" quest of each years your wolf plays, so that in case your whole litter dies, you can restart from that quest, and not LOSE your pups, territory, and all the wolves in the "known wolves" pane from that point of time, but you'll have to raise the litter again unfortunately until the Saga releases.

This will be the main source of fitness points income. Your goal is to rank up as many points as possible by choosing a mate with 4 star diversity, and protect your pups from predators. There is nothing you can do from sickness unfortunately except to spend as much time with the pups as possible, until your wakefulness reaches 0%. Record all of it in the google excel tables.
That's it! :)
That is all for my WolfQuest challenge! I hope you enjoy the challenge! :) I will update this guide when The Saga comes out.

Oh ok thank you for clarifying!

kenkelyinger01 - you don't - the backups are for when all of your pups die, not when the wolf you are playing as die. This is because right now, the game treats losing all the pups as a Game Over when it shouldn't - it isn't realistic, so this is a workaround for now :)

Hey I also have another Idea for you!

- Maybe you could add where minor/major injuries reduce points and each territory hex claimed from rival wolf territory can increase you points
- Another Idea is that maybe your mate can gain points from howling, marking territory on its own, etc.
- The last Idea is the maybe you can add where you have to gain a specific amount of points to do things like, have pups move to new den, etc.

I hope you like my Ideas!

Thanks for the WolfQuest Fitness Challenge, Sapphirejas! I tried it on accurate difficulty, but my wolf met an embarrassing end in stranger wolf territory due to an elk herd during fall season—😅 Lol! Despite that, I'm eager to try again.
One thing I have noticed though: If your wolf dies, how do you load a saved game of that wolf?
You mentioned in the rules section:
"The wolf must be an Ironwolf!"
"...and go back to winter." ... "Keep a backup of your save from the 'mark territory' quest each wolf year to keep your pups, territory, and wolves from the "known wolves" at that time."
Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again for the awesome challenge—I'm looking forward to improving on my next attempt! Overall, this challenge is incredibly enjoyable and a fantastic way to test skills in WolfQuest Three! It's quickly becoming one of my favorites!

Thanks :) I'll edit the change to make pronghorns that are protecting a baby easier.

This is very detailed. The only thing I'd like to mention is that when Doe Pronghorn may be hard during the rest of the year, when they are protecting a baby they are easy to kill.
