An orbital bomber for ground assaults

The most successful tool of orbital superiority in the Imperial Fleet is the Aequa Class orbital bomber. It utilises a simple, yet effective principle by dropping unguided, massive bombs within the gravity well. It was originally developed to quickly dispose of old, automated defence installations that had been found on moons once occupied by pirates. It was possible to carpet bomb the installations without any danger to the crews whatsoever.

The Aequa Class enters the gravity well of a planetary body and positions itself in geostationary orbit above the target that can either be acquired by optical targeting or has been identified and geo-tagged by a recon unit beforehand.
It will level itself perfectly with the help of computer programs and then can either drop single bombs or volleys. The bombs can be replaced by automated construction facilities aboard the bomber.
The bombs have warheads inside that will fracture the bomb into kinetic impact clusters if hit by enemy fire. The Aequa Class has a veritable amount of defence turrets on the top to provide some staying power during an orbital assault and fully loaded with materiel and ice it can still provide 17 minutes of low orbit in around 0.6 G before having to return to space to be refuelled.
Along with the Ancus Class Heavy Drop Ships and the Tempestas Class Siege Carriers, the Aequa Class Bomber completes the Akhinnae Empire’s conventional orbital siege concept.
First used in 1351AOU and upgraded twice since, the Aequa Class is strictly used against hard military targets and automated installations.

“Akhi.. Hakhu… what the heck?!”
Akhinnae – it’s my own world, with lore, language, history – I am a nerd, you know?
“DLC split the community, why do you use them here?”
I understand the argument, but I do not agree with it. I use the DLC because the give me the vanilla possibilities to use decorative freedom that I would otherwise not have. You are free to use the item without the DLC and I will not change my old worlds and blueprints so they can still be used without DLC. For new content, however, I chose to use all available DLC.
!!I will publish ALL my blueprints in world files that do not need the DLC at some point!!
