Why does it suck?
If you've uploaded a creation to the workshop you might be wondering why does the thumbnail look like this?
Whenever you hit the "Save Blueprint" or "Share on Steam Workshop" button the game will generate this default thumbnail for you. If you were to go to your creation's page you might notice there's no way to change the thumbnail. Unfortunately the process is not as straight forward as you might think.

This guide will teach you step by step how to apply your own custom thumbnail.
Step 1: The Subject
This one is the easiest. Simply select the creation you want to upload to the workshop. For this guide we will be using my Flexcraft-Enforcer.
To select an entity just place a block on it. The game will consider the last entity you've place a block on your selected entity. You can check if your desired entity is selected by clicking on the Ship Icon on the top of your screen. Once its selected we can move on.
Step 2: Upload Prep
In the Selected entities menu press the "Share on Steam Workshop" Button.

Once you've done that a new menu will pop up.
When you see this new menu, STOP!
All the following steps will be done out of game so once you see this menu Alt+Tab.
In this menu you can determine if you are uploading a new creation or updating a existing one. That's unimportant right now. What you need to know is that when this menu appears the game will save the entity as a new blueprint in a separate folder. Every time the upload menu appears it will update the blueprint. The next steps must be done all at once as canceling out of the menu and trying again will reset the whole process.

The full directory address is

Users > (User name) > AppData > LocalLow > Moonfire Entertainment > Starship EVO > Save_Data

You need to locate the version of your blueprint in the "Workshop" folder as that is what we will be doing some work on in the next step.
Step 3: File Swapping
Once you've located the folder we will need to swap out two files in it. The "Blueprint.png" and the "Blueprint_preview.png". In this image it is the ones on the far left and the far right.

The Blueprint.png file is the in-game thumbnail that is shown when you use a Starter Block to spawn in a blueprint. Replacing it now is optional as this is something that only people who downloaded the blueprint will see.

The Blueprint_preview.png file is the one that will be your workshop thumbnail. The image can be any size however the file must be smaller than 1mb. If the file is too large you will not be able to upload the blueprint at all.
NOTE: You will need to do this file swap every time you update the creation. Failing to do this will result in the creation using the default thumbnail again.

When you've swapped the files you are ready to upload! Tab back into the game and hit the "Upload to Workshop" button.
Step 4: Finished
If you've followed all the steps outlined you should get this:

I highly recommend uploading the blueprint into "Private" first. This way you can add a description, screenshots, etc to the page before people see it. Every time you update your creation the description will also reset. Keeping a text document on hand saves you the trouble of having to type everything again.
