Developers Guide to All Endings

This guide covers every objective for all 4 of the game's endings, and tips to play.

General Tips
The game autosaves every time a full objective is completed. This is not by task -- for example, if the objectives lists 4 tasks to complete cleaning a room, the game will not save until after all 4 objectives are complete.
You can check your objectives at any point by pressing tab or the north gamepad button.
  • Ending 1 - The Good Ending
  • Ending 2 - The Bittersweet Ending
  • Ending 3 - The Bad Ending (can be completed in addition to ending 1 or 2 if it's completed 1st)
  • Ending 4 - The Rage Ending (can be completed in addition to ending 1 or 2 if it's completed 1st)
Act 1
Shift 1
Clocking in
Cas loads into the level outside the motel beside her car. After going through her first day dialog, make your way into the front door of the motel (visible immediately from the view of the first camera angle).
Once inside the hotel, make your way into the pink door to the left of the front desk. There is a punch clock on the wall that you must use to clock in at the start of most levels.

Cleaning Room 1
Once clocked in, interact with the blue and yellow cart to pick it up. Push the cart back out to the lobby and talk to Liz, the woman behind the front desk. She will give you the key to Room 1. Once the key is obtained, enter your inventory and select the key to equip it. Make your way, with the cleaning cart, through the bar (the open archway to the right of the front desk) to the hallway full of hotel rooms. Unlock and enter the first door in the hallway, marked with a black “1”. Push the cleaning cart into the highlighted circle.
Interact with the bed to make it. Interact with the cleaning cart to pick up the sponge. Make your way to the bathroom (the door in the bottom right corner of the room) and interact with the sink. Follow the on screen prompt to clean the sink. Interact with the bathtub. Follow the on screen prompt to clean the bathtub. Make your way back to the cleaning cart and interact with it to pick up the toilet brush. Walk back to the bathroom and interact with the toilet. Follow the on screen prompt to clean the toilet.
Once all areas of the room are cleaned, interact with the cart to pick it up and walk it back to the storage room. Be sure to slide it into the highlighted area. Once the cart is dropped, go to the lobby and interact with Liz. She will tell you she needs soap from the storage shed.

Getting Soap from the Shed
Exit through the back door of the motel located in the bar. Navigate through the metal gate, towards the road blocks. Between the roadblocks, there is a stool. Interact with the stool and pick it up. Walk the stool past all the roadblocks and drop it in front of the shed door. Interact with the stool again to climb it. On the stool, you should be able to reach the key on the frame of the door. If you can’t, move the stool closer to the door and try again. RIP the stool, 2023-2024. The key to the shed is hidden under the large rock closest to the shed.

Once the shed key is obtained, move the stool out of the way of the door. Equip the key from your inventory and open the shed door.
Once in the shed, interact with the soap box on the table to pick it up.
After obtaining the soap, exit the shed and head toward the motel.

Ending 1 Opportunity
Speak to Monica, who is leaning against the motel beside the back door. She will give you her pocket knife. This is the only obtainable weapon in the game, and should be grabbed.



Head back inside and talk to Liz in the lobby. She will tell you to clock out. Head to the storage room and interact with the punch clock to clock out. Proceed to the parking lot and interact with your car to end the level. Optional letter is beside the car.

Shift 2
Clocking in
Cas loads into the level outside the motel beside her car. Proceed inside the motel, into the storage room, and clock in.
Once clocked in, speak to Liz at the front desk, who will advise you that the room you’re cleaning is haunted. Answer any way, the dialog does not influence an ending.

Vacuum the Hotel
After getting your assignment from Liz, head into the storage room. Interact with the vacuum beside the washing machines to turn it on.


Ending 1 Opportunity
There is a set of muddy footprints in the storage room beside the punch clock. Run the vacuum over it to pick up a photo of Monica and Vicky. Bring the photo to Monica outside at any point after.



Complete vacuuming by filling your progress bar -- the faster you walk around, the faster the progress bar fills.


After completing the vacuum task, take the cleaning cart from the storage room and bring it to Room 2 (the last door in the hallway to the left of the camera). Head into the bathroom after dropping the cart.



Room 2
After entering the bathroom, you will be locked inside. Proceed through the dialog and hide inside the bathtub immediately. After a moment, Cas will say she thinks the intruder is gone. Exit the tub and walk back into the bedroom. There is a letter on the bed. Interact with it, then exit the room and proceed to speak with Liz at the front desk.

Trash Collection
Liz will tell you that you can take out the trash instead of cleaning room 2, as it never gets booked anyway. Interact with the trash can in the lobby beside the bar archway to pick up the trash bag. Proceed through the bar out the back exit, and place the trash in the dumpster beside the motel. Walk back through the motel and exit out the front door. Proceed to pick up the trash in the parking lot, located under the “Dreary Lake Motel” sign. Walk it back to the dumpster.

The final trash bag is located inside the motel behind the bar. You’ll notice that Joe, the bartender, is in your way. Either:
You obtained the knife in level 1 - he will notice the knife and let you pass. Obtain the trash and walk it back out to the dumpster.
OR: Speak to Joe first to ask him to move. When he won’t move, punch him. He will stumble backwards and let you pass. Obtain the trash and walk it back out to the dumpster.


Once all the trash is collected, head to the storage room and interact with the punch clock to clock out. Proceed to the parking lot and interact with your car to end the level.

Act 2
Shift 3

Clocking in
Cas loads into the level outside the motel beside her car. Proceed inside the motel, into the storage room, and clock in.
Once clocked in, speak to Liz at the front desk, who will tell you to start with room 1.

Collecting towels
Take the cleaning cart to room 1. To clean the room this time, collect 3 towels: 1 is under the right side of the bed, 1 is by the door to the hallway, and 1 is in the bathroom beside the tub. Collect them individually and drop them back into the cart.

Completing the Laundry
Take the cleaning cart into the storage room beside the laundry machines. Add the clothing to a washer. Cas remarks there is no detergent. Leave the cart where it is and proceed out the back door to the shed. Collect the detergent and start to return to the storage room.

Tip: Be wary of the masked man this time around, he will grab you at the second roadblock if you’re too close. Follow the on screen prompt to struggle out of his grip. If you don’t break free in time, he will kill you. Once broken free, return to the storage room and add the detergent to the washer.

Ending 4 Opportunity
Speak to Liz before you clock out. She will allow you to call the police. This unlocks a deep rage within you for the final act.


Clock out and head to your car to end the shift. Optional note outside the car is an invitation to a party.

"Shift" 4

Party Time
Cas loads into the Event space. Find Joe to tell him you’re at the party. He will give you a drink (whether you want it or not).


Ending 1 Opportunity
There is a pill bottle on the empty table next to the chip bowls. Examine it.


Once you’ve finished talking to everyone you want to talk to, speak to Monica to trigger a cut scene.

Hangover
Cas wakes up in Room 2. There’s an optional letter on the dresser.

Ending 1 Opportunity
If you’ve completed all ending 1 opportunities up to this point, Monica will be waiting for you outside your room. When prompted, accuse her client of drugging your drink.


Leave the room to talk to Liz at the front desk. She will assign you to pick up all the garbage from the party. Pick up all the red cups 1 at a time and take them to trash cans or the dumpster.
Vacuum the lobby using the vacuum from the storage room.

Ending 1 Opportunity
Run the vacuum over the muddy footprints in the lobby to obtain a photo.


Cleaning room 2
Take the cleaning cart to room 1. You’ll hear a noise in the bathroom. Go to the shower and pull back the curtain to reveal Monica in the bath and crying. The dialog presented here will be different depending on the ending you set up. Once you’re finished speaking with Monica, answer the landline phone beside the bed. Whatever the dialog, the Masked Man will be on his way to the room you’re in once you hang up.

To successfully survive, hide under the bed immediately. Wait until the man exits the bathroom (or the noise in the bathroom quiets) to come out from under the bed.

Check out the bathroom. After what you find there, get help from Liz at the front desk. She will be alarmed and tell you to get help from outside. Attempt to head out the front door.

"Shift" 5
Masked Man’s Behavior
The Masked Man is now wandering around the motel looking for you. If you bump into him, he will kill you immediately.

There is a bleeding eye icon that becomes visible when the Masked Man knows where you are. If it is opaque, he can see you directly. Avoid hiding when this happens. If it is transparent, he knows approximately where you are but cannot see you directly. If it disappears, he will be following his regular patrol path instead of you:

Starting from the hallway outside room 2
Enters Room 2 and the bathroom
Exits through the hallway
Enters Room 1 and the bathroom
Exits through the hallway
Walks through the bar and lobby to the storage room

You have 2 options to avoid being killed, neither of which influences the ending:
Stealth:
Avoid the man’s path at all times. If you hear his whistling coming close, hide in a bathtub, under a bed, or in the locker in the storage room. BEWARE if he sees you entering a hiding spot, he will still kill you.
Force:
This is ONLY an option if you obtained Monica’s pocket knife in level 1.
Equip the knife when the Masked Man is near. Slash him with it before he grabs you. He will retreat to the room 2 bathroom OR the storage room (whichever is further away from you). Once he reaches his destination, he will disappear for 30 seconds before returning.

Restoring the Power
The front door has been chained up to keep you in. Speak to Liz. While speaking to Liz, the lights will go out and Liz will hand you what she believes is a flashlight. It is actually a blacklight. Equip it from your inventory and notice things around the hotel are now visible when they weren’t before.

Head out the back door of the motel and round the corner to the fuse box. You’ll note that there are 3 missing fuses. Flash the blacklight at the wall next to the dumpster to reveal a hidden message:
“In the halls where silence and art entwine, Each stroke on canvas conceals a sign. Seek the walls adorned with stories untold, Where brush and mystery effortlessly fold. Amongst the frames, a clue's soft glow, Unravel the secrets that the paintings bestow.”

This clue alludes to the fact that more clues are visible on paintings around the motel, which can also be revealed with the blacklight.

Fuse 1:
The hint for fuse 1 is found on a painting in the hallway and states:

“ In the heart of your lodging, where keys conspire, Where guests arrive, and secrets transpire. Seek me where shadows and greenery blend, Your journey starts where no daylight can fend. Behind the counter, in nature's dark caress, Unearth my presence, and your power's access.”

We can deduce then, that the fuse is located in the lobby, behind the front desk, in the plant.

Fuse 2:
The hint for fuse 2 is found on a painting in the lobby and states:

“When the night is veiled, and the flames dance high, Seek me where warmth and shadows defy the sky. My location isn't where you'd normally stare, Amongst the burning logs, beware if you dare. In the hearth's eerie flicker, my power's embraced, Retrieve the light from the fireplace, darkly encased.”

We can deduce then, that the fuse is located in the lobby, inside the fireplace; however, if you interact with the fireplace you will note that you do not have a lighter. The lighter is located on the bar next to a smoking ashtray and can be equipped from your inventory.


Fuse 3:
The hint for fuse 3 is found on a painting in Room 1 and states:

“In the laundry room's eerie, silent abyss, I dwell within the machine, a clandestine twist. Where water and cycles murmur in dread, Find me where the washer hungers to be fed. Seek my secret within the wash's cold trance, Inside the machine, your power's macabre chance.”

From this it’s pretty obvious that the fuse is located in the storage room inside the active washing machine.

Once all the fuses have been collected, place them inside the fuse box outside.
The Basement
With the power back on, you will have obtained the basement key. If you did some exploring with the blacklight, you’d probably have noticed footprints leading to its location. Make your way into the bathroom in Room 2, equip the key, and push aside the bathmat to reveal a trap door to the basement.
Act 3
The Basement

Ending 3 Opportunity
Ending 3 can be obtained no matter what choices you’ve made throughout the game. Jump to the valves for other endings.
Once in the basement, equip the basement key and make your way out of the room with the stairs. Turn left down the hallway and enter the room with the TV. Enter the door opposite the one with the chains on it. This will trigger the final stage.



The Valves
You appear at the bottom of the stairs in the basement. You’ll notice a large pipe. If you interact with it, you’ll notice it’s missing a valve. Pick up the sponge from the table beside the door and interact with the glass cabinet on the wall. After cleaning the glass, you’ll notice the valve is inside the case and you’ll pick it up. Interact with the pipe to place it.

Walk across the hallway and enter the door to the church. Beside the fountain, you’ll notice another place where a valve is missing. Walk up to the altar and obtain the valve from under a bench. Interact with the pipe to place it and notice the fountain turn on. Inspect it to find a screw driver.

Ending 4 Opportunity
If you called the police in act 2, you will be able to interact with a vent in the chapel with the screwdriver equipped. Pick up the brick to end the game.


The Locked Room
Equip the Screwdriver and navigate to the vent in the hallway (located between the door to the room with the stairs, and the door to the room with the TV). Snip through the vent and find yourself in the hidden room.

Ending 1 Opportunity
If you’ve followed every ending 1 opportunity, proceed:
Find Vicky in the hidden room and speak to her. Confirm that Monica is alive and she will direct you to the next room to obtain the key to her chains.


The key to Vicky’s chains is inside a safe on the bed. The passcode can be found by viewing the clocks -- one in the hallway, one in the stair room, and one in the chapel. [[highlight for the correct code: 639 ]] Once the key is obtained, return to Vicky. She will direct you to the next room and advise you that she’ll meet you at the end.

Ending 2 Opportunity
If you did not obtain every ending 1 opportunity:
Find Vicky in the hidden room. She’ll ask about Monica. Tell her she’s dead. Vicky will not see a point in leaving and will give you a can of gasoline. Equip it from your inventory. Pour the gasoline in the following locations:
-On the mattress in the hidden room
-On the chapel altar
-On the stairs
Once the gasoline is poured, go back to the hidden room and ask Vicky one more time if she wants to come with you. Exit through the room with the safe.



Final stage
Once you turn the corner in the hallway, the final sequence will begin. Make your way as quickly as possible to the end of the hallway, dodging the obstacles in your way and avoiding the Masked Man trailing close behind. Once you reach the ladder at the end of the hall, the end sequence will begin. The end cutscene you get depends on the choices you made leading up to this point.

Turns out all I was missing for the good ending where the pills... -.- (and also managed to skip the bad ending in my first playthrough too lol).
