Workbenches: An Overview

What are workbenches?

With the release of update 1.15, the mechanics for blueprints and gun oil were changed. Instead of gun oil cleaning a weapon and the blueprint offering a single unlock for a specific tree, gun oil was given the former ability of the blueprint, which itself was changed to unlock three random weapon progressions! To go along with this, these could no longer be randomly found around the bayou. Instead, they are now found exclusively on top of workbenches! These workbenches exist at set locations, so it is now easier than ever to find blueprints and gun oil!

What do they look like?

The workbenches are distinguishable with their stool, cardboard boxes, metal press, and other features. With a few exceptions (most notably at Kingsnake Mine), all workbenches have these features. The sprocket is part of the base model of the workbench.

At Lawson Station in the northern boss lair upstairs, you will notice several base model workbenches in the middle of the room. These are all plain except for the sprocket. These do not appear to be functional; in fact, one is covered in train wheels. Much the same, at Reeves Quarry, there are more base models in the boss lair that have quarried stone on them or are plain and backwards. One is right next to a "fully featured" workbench that is functional. Similarly, there are other models in Windy Run and First Testimonial Church that are covered in other objects and have not been noted to be functional.

This implies that this base model was repurposed for use of the workbenches. Some of these may have already existed on the map and been adorned in a customized way, like the ones at Kingsnake Mine. This would also explain the plethora at C&A Lumber.

Where do I find the workbenches?

These workbenches are generally found inside of non-domestic structures. With a few exceptions, these are not found inside the boss lairs or outside of buildings. Stillwater Bayou is noted to have 32, Lawson Delta has 36, and DeSalle has 31. While a mathematical pattern to this would have made sense from a balance perspective, thus far it seems such is not the case. This may not be exhaustive—new locations are added when discovered!

Where do I find the loot?

On top of the workbench! You may find blueprints, gun oil, hunt dollar pouches, bloodbond pouches, weapons, or special ammo boxes.

Hi everyone, it seems there has been some issue with the images uploaded directly to the guide that is not affecting the images uploaded as screenshots. If the images such as the maps fail to load, do let me know!

We shall crown you Master of Port Reeker then! It is coming to where we might actually have 32 on each map (asides from the C&A Anomaly) for an average of 2 per zone. I project that there is one more each on Stillwater Bayou and DeSalle yet to be documented.

If you are using a very small screen, you can just click the furthest jumplist link towards your desired target; it will jump to that point without having to scroll. I personally have a 4K display upon which I can easily see the entire jumplist if I wanted to have the window maximized , but I run the Steam main client in a 1280x960 window, and it only takes me one jump to go to "Lawson Delta: Windy Run" on the way to "DeSalle", the final map.

penguiin, I suggest you right click on the maps and open in new tabs (on steam client) or in new windows otherwise, that way you can see them at larger scale and place them in your desired positions.

Thank you! It has been added to the guide. It was seemingly like Port Reeker should have had more than one with its number of buildings; we originally thought there was one in the SE lair, but it turned out to just be a table upon reexamination.

There is another one in Port Reeker, in the middle Boss Lair building, lower level, right at the southern entry door.
