There's nothing there to stop you from leaving Farum Azula before killing Maliketh, besides maybe the map not popping up if enemies are aggroed on you; you're free to leave it at any time with fast travel, even if not resting at a Grace, so you can go there just for the bell bearings and them immediately leave. (However, if you're looking to minimize the level of spoiler within the spoiler-tag there, that makes sense)
Spoiler + ~gameplay mechanic:
I marked the Cardinal Sin as the "Point of no return" because after you done it you will be teleported to Crumbling Farum Azula and there you have a straight way to Maliketh. Killing Maliketh should be the "Point of no return" BUT:
Because of the gaming experience and ~lore the world was designed in a way to not allow the player to leave Crumbling Farom Azula before killing Maliketh so technically the Cardinal Sin which leads you there is the true "Point of no return".
"Secret exit": If in Crumbling Farom Azula you REST at the Grace, and not just touching it then you can teleport out.
Considering the story it is strange to me to go back to a place what I just burned down a second ago. Useful, but I think the lore is better without that gimmick.
I hope you understand why I decided to write it that way.
